WWE TRUMPETS THE SUCCESS OF JOHN CENA'S CD

WWE sent out the following press release today.

WWE(R) Champion John Cena(TM) Debuts at #15 on Billboard's Top 200

Wednesday May 18, 8:00 am ET
Wrestler's Debut Release 'YOU CAN'T SEE ME' Sells More Than 43,000 Albums in First Week

LOS ANGELES, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- World Wrestling Entertainment® champion and rapper John Cena delivers a different kind of "smackdown" this week. YOU CAN'T SEE ME, his debut album, enters Billboard's Top 200 this week at number 15 after selling 43,000 units in its first week.
Recorded in 2004 at Chaos and Order Basscamp Studios during Cena's rare breaks from the ring, YOU CAN'T SEE ME features 17 original tracks. Paying tribute to the classic two-man rhyming crews of the past, Cena and Tha Trademarc (Marc Predka) nimbly trade verses throughout the album. "You almost never hear a rap crew today working like EPMD or 3rd Bass," says Cena. "I wanted to bring that style back a little and get away from one MC up there doing his thing. Working this way let us attack a song from different directions and create a more dynamic flow."

The album's first single, "Bad, Bad Man," is backed by Chaos' insistent beat and respected rap legend Freddie Foxx (aka Bumpy Knuckles), who created the song's chest-pounding chorus. The new video for "Bad, Bad Man" parodies the classic A-Team television show, features modern special effects and stars: John Cena as Col. John "Hannibal" Smith, Bumpy Knuckles as Sgt. Bosco Albert "B.A." Baracus, Tha Trademarc as Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, also a cameo with Different Strokes star Gary Coleman.

Yeah, I had a bad feeling about that. I actually went to a few different stores last week, and they were either sold out or didn't carry it. So if the other stores would have carried it, there could have been more sales.

Whoa. That's ... completely realigning my apparently muddled world view.

Again, I've never been a fan of Cena or his rap gimmick, but if his album is #15 on the Billboard charts, then he and the WWE are doing something right.

I only heard one really good song on there.

They were only three copies at the fye the day it came out and the next day they were gone. I think if they had bigger distribution, he'd have probably sold more.

Lamuella
05-18-2005, 03:53 PM
to be absolutely fair, the video for bad bad man is fucking hillarous, and the song isn't bad.

KingofOldSchool
05-18-2005, 03:53 PM
Yeah we only got 8 copies in at work last Tuesday and as of Monday we only had 2 left. And that was partly because someone put Cena's CDs in the Pop section.

The Dub
05-18-2005, 03:59 PM
It was in the rap section in our store. Best Buy is down the street, so I don't think business is that good at the fye. Maybe they had more copies. I'll give Cena a chance.

I don't like it to be honest, the song itsself is kinda stupid, though the video is ok. I wish they wouldn't keep showing it though.

That means nothing. 43,000 wrestling fans bought the record. Next week this album takes a huge nosedive in the charts no doubt about it. It's alright to have a ranking like that on the charts, but the album wont build on that. Pretty much every wrestling fan has gotten their mommy or daddy to shell them the cash for the debut week sales and then by this time next week we'll see where he is.
It's not that impressive really, I'm not sure how many other people besides wrestling fans wil care.

The One

Still to know that there are 43,000 people who couldn't find something better to spend 15 bucks on...it's...it's just wrong.

It's times like these that makes me wish Curt Hennig was still with us so he could return with the "Rap is Crap" gimmick.

And I don't care what any of you say. Henning's song was better then K-Dawg's rap crap song and it still is better then this Cena trash.

And Hennig and the rest of the West Texas Rednecks would so rip Cena and his chain gang a new one on Smackdown if Mr. Perfect was still around.

A 15 spot on the Billboard is nothin to sneeze at, even if it's a single week.

Still you are premature in your judgements. This is all about where it is now, not what will happen. None of us here have a crystal ball. And considering the shit that sells in rap.

So you're an inbred retard.

Because I liked Hennig? I tell you, with a guy who is clearly a mark for Kane, you shouldn't be talking much, nor should you be dissing on a man who could not only wrestle but work the stick as well unlike your hero who can barely do both.

Oh yeah, and rap sucks.

R. A. P. = Retards Attempting Poetry

It's like every five years the wrestling world gives some dumb-ass the rapper gimmick and then plays his damn rap video all the time instead of showing wrestling matches.

Reminds me a lot of Konnan in 1999....I was hoping I'd never have td eal with that again.

Ha, look who's talking. Let me tell you something jerk-face......I don't know who...........or what the HELL you are. And where you get off on coming to this board and acting like you own the place....and even having the nerve to disrespect future hall of famers such as myself and a truck load of others. You're not a pimple on my ass!

Where I'm from, the old guys put over the young kids and don't try to protect their sport forever. And all you are doing is earning yourself a place on my ass-whipping list.

So if you know what's good for you, you need to crawl back to wherever you came from and start putting in work before you even try hanging with the big boys again, old timer.

Or otherwise......the following things may happen to you:

1. Someone might pour honey over your penis (if you have one) and let in a swarm of bees.

2. Force you to listen to The Macho Man's CD over and over again.

3. Make you go down on Mae Young.

4. Surgically attach you to Saddam Hussein.

5. Glue a $100 bill to your head and drop you off on the South Side of Chicago at 3 AM.

6. Drop you into a cage filled with pitbulls with AIDS.

7. Dress you up as a 12-year old and make you stay at the Neverland ranch.

8. Dress you up as X-PAC and feed you to Chyna.

9. Dress you up as a 13-year old girl and feed you to Jerry Lawler.

10. Tattoo "Bitch" on your back and drop you off at the Huntsville prison in Huntsville, Texas.

To tell the truth, the CD is pretty hot to me. I like 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, and some others. The beats on the CD are pretty tight, i didn't think that they would be that good, seeing as it was a WWE rap CD. I listen to #14 like its crack.

After everyone buys it the first week, it's almost impossible to keep it up the next week, because everyone has already got a copy, so who is left to really BUY the album, since no one is going to be buying the exact same record for themselves (maybe a reissue with an added bonus, but not the exact same thing)?

I wanted to get this one. Either that or Motley Crue's "Red, White, And Crue" one.
