Topher Grace (That 70's Show...and ...In Good Company) has been added to the cast for the upcoming Spiderman 3 movie. Marvel hasnt had kept his character secret so far so as far as I know of its unknown to most who he will be playing.

Rumours on the net are going crazy now that he will probably play one of the villains for the next Spiderman movie in which Raimi has said might possibly be his last.

I really doubt Venom will be in it, Raimi doesn't really like the character. Not really got a lot of choice when it comes to decent villains who aren't just mindless grunts though, now that the Green Goblin and Doc Ock are over and done with.

I'd dispute that, personally, maybe for the younger generation of Spiderman fans, but the Green Goblin and Doc Ock seem far more well known overall to me.

GG will be in the next film, since he set that up last movie. As for the other villian...perhaps it'll be........Mysterio?

Fuck's sake Tom Haden Church has already signed and is almost 100% sure to be Sandman, there'd be little or no point throwing Venom in on top of that, either one or the other would just not have enough screentime.

There's already options with The Lizard, Wolfman and Harry going nutso to be GG 2...as for Grace, could be Mysterio, could be Hobgoblin, could be frickin' Shocker ffs. But I really, really doubt it'll be Venom.

Man made out of sand, funnily enough.

Think Mr Fantastic with the whole 'can take any form' thing but can also render himself diamond-hard, more or less.

I don't remember his origin 100% I think he was a petty thief hiding out from the cops on a beach which they just happened to be doing atomic testing on/near, molecules got bonded to the sand or somesuch. Anyway if the CGI is up to scratch it should be a great spectacle.

Word. Fuck all this Green Goblin/Rhyno/Scorpion shit. Well, Goblin is acceptable because of the story with Harry, but meh. The rest of the villains fail.

Venom and Carnage were staples in my gaming life when the SNES was around. Maximum Carnage! There's a game right there. :D

Venom needs to be built up, two movies at least, unless they totally destroy his origin, throwing Carnage in as well would just be overkill, first you need to do Black costume Spiderman hen you nee to do Brock becming Venom then you need to do the Venom suit splitting itself and one part merging with Cassidy. Well I suppose they could change the origins if they really wanted to but anyway you look at it, you trying to fit all that in 2 hours will ensure that it would suck. Besides Venom and Carnage are a product of the 90s comics, I like that they are staying with the classic villains, the staples of the franchise.

Chances are the next movie will have multiple villains, with Harry as Green Goblin 2, and possibly the Lizard (since they've already introduced Dr. Connors in the second movie). Raimi had mentioned something or other about having the Black Cat in there somewhere too, which might not be too bad.

I'd really rather not see Venom or Carnage at all in the movies, since A) Venom's a really complicated character that needs some good build, and they haven't even introduced Eddie Brock, and B) despite looking awesome on ink-and-paper, something tells me Venom would look really stupid in a live-action movie.

While he would be a great visual, Sandman is a terrible idea. I like the villain in the books(he had a great story with Hydroman where they combined into this mud monster), but he can't hold a film by himself. If anything, I could imagine Church playing Mysterio or Eddie Brock, and Grace playing Electro or the Scorpion.

Odds are it's going to be Sandman, since there's various rumours they've been doing a lot of effects tests involving sand.

I personally think Scorpion would be an awesome villain to sidetrack us while they handle the Eddie Brock and Harry Osbourne storylines. The Sandman and Scorpion being hired to kill Spider-Man by Harry would be a nice touch, making his transition into the Green Goblin seem harder than just simply going "I'm evil now.", since Peter Parker is his best friend.

I personally hope they kill off Mary-Jane in this movie. Maybe the same way that Gwen Stacey died? Have Harry Osbourne decide to save her from Scorpion and Sandman after he orders them to kidnap her to lure out Parker, due to a change of heart. Have Mary-Jane deliver one of the best slaps in cinema history to him, which makes Harry snap, shoving Mary-Jane off the bridge. Spidey catches her *CRACK*, her neck breaks. Follow this up with The Sandman blasting Spidey and an already dead Mary-Jane out into the water, and having Sandman become a sort of mud creature by mixing with the water, and you have some pretty good final action sequences lined up, IMO.

Carnage is one of the worst characters ever. He's just a skinny Venom with no character depth whatsoever. I'm so glad they've killed him off(for now anyway) in the comics.

I'd like to see Scorpion and Mysterio Be the villans. Have Eddie call Mysterio "Famila" Then hit him with a chair, rip off his fish bowl, Suplex him on some stairs and say "Why did you make me do this Mysterio?"

You see, they will never put either of them in the movies. Yeah they look cool, but beyond that what do you have? Nothing. Just rip-offs of other, much better Villians. Sandman could be good, because his character has a lot more depth than either of those guys. Venom would be good, but you would have to build towards it beyond one movie. I actually wouldn't be suprised to see the beginnings of the Venom story start in 3. As far as dumping a load of shit into parker's life, I think they should introduce another female character, like gwen stacy or the black cat, to throw a wrench in the whole MJ relationship, just as it seems everything is going great.

To bring in Gwen now would be a mistake. If you were going to bring her in at all( :foc: Sam!!), then you should have brought her in in the first film. Hold off on the Goblin until at least the sequel, then have her die. Then you can bring Mary Jane in(although I prefer Black Cat, Felica Hardy>>>>>>MJ). Although, with these Spider-Man movies(as great as they are, SM2 had so much comic book feel in it) being so kid friendly, it's kind of hard to do that.

Even still, I DON'T want to see the Goblin again. Yeah, you kind of have to now, but I really don't want to see another Goblin. The two films have been very different from each other(Goblin, Ock), so to just re-use the Goblin is lazy as hell. Unless you're going to drastically change the costume to make it look like the Hobgoblin(fun fact: the Hobgoblin was Ned Leeds in the comics).

March 28, 2005 — According to Harry Knowles over at Aint It Cool News, they can now confirm that Thomas Hayden Church will be playing The Sandman in 'Spider-Man 3'. Multiple spies at Sony have confirmed that Thomas Hayden Church will indeed be playing SANDMAN. So there it is, Sandman will be Spider-Man's main villian in this installment, and with Green Goblin 2(Harry Osborn) possibily making an appearance

Jaded-Dragon, that scenario you created was just awesome.

Venom needs some build-up, but I think one film would be enough. All you need to do is create a strong enough plot with The Sandman, slowly build-up Harry Osbourne as The Green Goblin (for Film V), and maybe have JJ Jameson start to build-up to Scorpion or something for a later film. I have a feeling The Lizard may make an appearance in the film as well.

Jaded-Dragon

It could be very easy to set up Venom's appearence during the next movie if they borrow from the animated series. They already introduced JJ's son in SM2, so towards the beginning of the movie you have Parker being given the assignment to go photograph the space shuttle take-off. You also introduce Eddie Brock in the beginning, jealous that Parker always gets the best pics of Spider-Man, and jealous that the boss picked Parker to photograph his son's shuttle launch. We also set up the impending appearence of Sandman as normal.

In the next act we have Jameson's ship land with some black goo attached to it. The landing should happen near some body of water. The goo gets cleaned off, washed down a drain, travels along through the sewer and ends up in the body of water, where it ends up riding the current into the water surrounding New York. All of this could be accomplished very easily in 5 minutes of film time.

Have the movie proceed as normal (normal being however Sam Raimi wants it), and since every villian in the movies will, without a doubt, get at least two battle sequences, have the first fight with Sandman end near the water. Sandman can get wet and start to turn to mud, which causes him to run off. Spidey left there catching his breath comes out of the water with the black goo on him. It seeps into his skin and he starts to feel ill. He returns home and goes to sleep. He wakes up the next morning feeling incredible and realizes that the black goo made him even stronger. Since the symbiote intensifies negative feelings, Parker decides not to do anything about the symbiote because he feels he needs it to beat Sandman. Play off the emotion that he was getting his ass kicked and it makes him angry to think about it.

In the last battle between Spidey and Sandman, Eddie Brock arrives at the scene and begins trying to photograph the action. He eventually gets too close to the action and the Sandman captures him and tries to use him as a human shield. Have the symbiote Spidey yell out something like, "I don't care about that loser" or something to that effect. Sandman eventually drops Brock onto the ground and he gets knocked out from the fall. Now have Spidey nearly kill Sandman and realize what the suit is doing to him. Since Symbiotes hate sonic and fire, have an explosion happen during the fight, Spidey can basically throw himself into the flames in an effort to get the symbiote off of him. He succeeds and the goo travels to the nearby Eddie Brock. BAM! We are set up for Venom in the next movie. The symbiote hates PArker for rejecting it, Brock hates Parker out of jealousy, and after the symbiote bonds with him, he hates him even more because he knows that Parker is Spider-Man and he remembers when Spider-man called him a loser.

Sam Raimi doesn't want to use Venom because he likes characters with human emotions.... That's the biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard. Brock hates Parker out of Jealousy, no emotion there huh? Parker eventually has to deal with the fact that Brock knows his identity and has to live with the fear that he may let that information lose at any moment. Fear, no emotion there. And how about the time in the comic where Peter was still wearing the Black suit, and Venom came into his apartment looking for him and terrorized Mary Jane? Peter came home in the black suit and MJ started freaking out to the point where Peter had to take the suit off before she realized it really was him. No emotion there either eh?

They could do it, if they wanted to. I would personally take Venom over most any other villian, just because Venom was so dangerous to both Peter Parker AND Spider-Man.

BlackDawn2024

The only problem I ever had with Venom was how often he was in the comics. It seemed like every other month, he had a story. To be honest, Spider-Man has much more interesting villains than Venom. Mysterio, Scorpion and Arcade to name a few(that last one's a joke for those who know the comics :p ). But that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to see Venom.

By introducing John Jameson, there's potential to bring in the Man-Wolf, but I doubt it.

Scorpion would be awesome. That would mean more Jameson, and in turn, more J.K. Simmons, which I'm always up for. Mysterio would be absolutely fucking awesome. You could actually make some scenes creepy, but I doubt Raimi would do this.
