As for the Flair/Steamboat rumor, Ricky Steamboat addressed it on a radio show last night. He said that he's never been contacted about the match, but he'd love to do it, even with his back injury. He knows that fans would love to see the match as well, so he hopes it happens, but wouldn't necessarily count on it
I am/was a huge mark for Steamboat and Flair but I don't want to see them work again. Steamboat has been out of the ring for 10 years and he is the only person pushing for this match. Oh yeah, Vince don't like him either so it ain't likely to ever happen.

Seriously though I like it, but I don't, if you know what I mean. Probably wouldn't be a good match. :'(

I want to see it, even if only for nostalgic reasons. That's all I really need.

is that why his Intercontinental title run was short?
Since when was this a rumor anyway?

WWE is looking for new viewers. Having a retired guy come back to wrestle isn't going to serve that purpose.
i guess they could make it a tag match and let the young guys do most the wrestling

Well he quit twice.
The first time was during his IC title reign. He asked for a couple of weeks off so he could be around his wife when his son was born and Vince said no because he was the IC champ and he needed him on house shows. Steamboat said he wanted to drop the title then. They originally planned to give it Butch Reed but he pulled a no show and Honky Tonk Man was just walking by and he got asked instead. After the match, Steamboat went up to Vince and said something among the lines of "Hey Vince, remember I wanted 3 weeks off? Now I think I'll take 6 months off" and he just never came back.
The second time he was meant to get a big push in 1990 but they pissed on him. One night at TV tapings (taping 4 weeks in one night), they asked him to do a job to the Taker and then to IRS (I think). He said no because they wanted Taker to put him in a body bag. He had no problem with that or doing the job to Taker but he thought it was stupid to come back out the same night and do another job to IRS (which is was in reality). Vince said do it or your breaching contract so he breached it and went to WCW.

wtfff are you talking about scot?
Hogan proved to be the biggest ratings spike since Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Seriously, though, you're totally right. Nostaglia doesn't really equal ratings.

Personally, I'd rather nt see it. I remember Steamboat vs Flair fondly, and I'd like to leave it at that, instead of ruining my nostalgia to see a guy who's gonna be rusty and another one who's less rusty but past his prime.

Although I agree, it's not even that deep down because they could probably still have a decent match. It's just that anyone who wasn't around to see the original matches will see it and then judge the old matches to the same standard. I couldn't bare having to defend the Wrestle War match when someone is saying "well what about WM 20?"
