Indy wrestler Dan Quirk, who wrestled under the name Spider, passed away last night after injuries occurred when performing a plancha while working for Ultimate Championship Wrestling in Taunton, Massachusetts. According to several reports, Quirk's opponent was unable to catch him, causing Quirk to crash to the floor headfirst. Quirk was out immediately with blood visible after he hit the floor. The match was immediately halted and an ambulance was called. Efforts to revive Quirk were unsuccessful. He was only 22 years old.

Never heard of him, but this all sounds immensely terrible. I'll bet his opponent feels like a gargantuan bucket of shit right about now.

Shame that this happened.

At such a young age, and then over something like this.

That sounds horrific.
Thoughts to the family of the guy and also to the guy who he was in the ring with, he can't be feeling to great right about now.

Man alive...it's hard to hear about someone dying. it's especially harder to hear it's a wrestler.

And Savior is probably right about how it happened.

Damn, that's truly sad to hear. 22 is too young for anyone to die, he could have had a long career, so this is unfortunate.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I'm not trying to sound insensitive or anything, but does anyone know where I can find a pic of him? I'm very bad with names, although I know I've heard this one before, but I just can't put a face with it...this really is tragic.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I think I've seen this guy perform at local indy shows before, and they were in Connecticut and this was in Massachusetts so it probably is the same guy. I knew he was insane and had the tendency to do some high-flying moves, but I never woulda expected this.

A damn shame, way too young. :(

Found this on their website:

Dan, our prayers are with you and your family. You were one of the nicest and promising young wrestlers we have ever met in the wrestling business. Each show that you came to, you stood out among all the other wrestlers, with your sincerity and love for the sport of wrestling and entertainment. You always had a smile on your face and that’s something we will always remember about you. People like you are way too few. We can’t think of anything else we could say or do to comfort your family and friends as we are all still in shock. Our prayers are with you our brother, may you find peace with God and let our prayers and good memories of you help comfort your family and all who called you a friend.

We will all be missing you. U.C.W.

I remember our first match together it was a tag team match with Gino Martino and I. It was great and after that match you had my respects as a wrestler and person who I could call a friend and brother.

My deepest sympathies for you and your family, Rest in Peace Dan! You are my friend and my brother. You will be sadly missed.

Be at peace now Dan.
My deepest sympathies,

Anthony Rufo

It's a shame when wrestlers force themselves to do all those insane moves to try to get over and it ends up going wrong.

Geez... it goes to show you how fragile life can be. Even a relatively "safe" high flying move can turn out very, very ugly.

I mean, I'm sure few people would anticipate a plancha killing someone, since we're so used to seeing it executed without incident.

R.I.P.

22... that's only a year older than me. :(
