is there a reason why such a high-end card is so cheap, or did i strike a great deal?
No, the 9800's are pretty cheap these days.

Radeon 9550 can be found for the 100 dollar range, best part, it can be flashed to a 9600 pro.
6600gt is a great card for the price, but its probably a bit more than what you're looking to spend.

I have been eyeing off a 6600GT for awhile now. Looks like Battlefield 2 just might be the clincher on getting a new card.
If your looking for a budget card i wouldnt go past the 6600 GT for a great balance of value and graphics grunt. Also remember that most new AGP card require a decent Power supply to go along with it.
