Yeah, the right umpire didn't make the call though, so they went to the right umpire and he said the dude left early. I dunno why they would over turn the call, I realize the wrong ump had the call but why didn't the correct ump just go with the first guy's call? He was standing right there, it was obvious he didn't fuck it up.

Oh well though, A-Rod got his one clutch hit of the year, glad he got it out early.

My kids made me change the channel so I didn't get to see past the 2 inning. What was the score of that game?

3 blown calls all going in favour of the USA. All ruled on by the same guy

The tag up play against the Japanese
Calling ARod safe on a force play on a flyball out (Mexico tonight)
Calling a double when the Mexicans hit the foul pole. (Mexico tonight)

Dragon

And the US still can't win.

hahaha.

japan/korea
cuba/dominican

the ratings will be HUGE!

this is sad, because the cuba game could be a great game and worth all of the bullshit. no one is going to watch it.

EDIT: NOT Mexico

Poetic justice that Japan gets in and the US doesn't. I hope Korea beats Japan again.

Mexico eliminated themselves by not shuting out the USA in extra innings....

USA's offense never really got anything going at all through this whole tournament, except for that one game againest South Africa.

Damon didn't play today because his shoulder is already sore, Red Sox not over paying him is looking like a better move again and again.

I am glad the US didn't win it all, but it would have been better if they lost later in the tournament. The reason I say that is because so many guys didn't play that should have, and for the US to win would have been a joke. Now this is going to be a huge boost for the sport in these other countries where they actually care about it.

Wasn't it Boston? Well I think they were wearing red socks, or white socks, or socks of some colour.

I don't think that's what he was talking about. But it's Gooner, and he's weird sometimes. So, who knows?

saw a Varitek interview and he was saying for a lot guys, the pitching was way head of the hitters. I wonder if they'll start spring training earlier on WBC years from now on?

Cuba has a big advantage because their pitchers are in mid season form, plus they've been playing together as a team. That is probably why they have been so succesful in this tournament. Not to mention the fact that most of these guys would be major league players if it wasn't for the whole communist nation thing. At the sametime though, they really don't have the opportunties for training etc like a lot of the other teams, so what they have been doing is pretty impressive.

Isn't Japan's season already underway as well?

You're right about Cuba, they are a very impressive country in terms of sport production. Like baseball, they've got a great boxing system. Too bad for the atheletes, I guess... in terms of no access to pro leagues outside of Cuba.

Anyone know why ESPN is delaying the final?

Seriously, WTF is going on.

BCWWF

Lack of interest? Something will probably get them better ratings.

Somebody was telling me that some of the best Cuban players didn't even come because of the fear of defecting..any truth to that?

YOUR Hero

Then it comes on and they had audio problems.

Bob Davidson must be the sound man and scheduler now that he's not umping.

Japan got off to a 4-0 lead after their 1st half inning. Been a good game though, Cuba has kept them close. 4-1 in the 3rd right now.

...all I know is it's neither National Team and these guys play together all the time. I would think ESPN os someone would mention it on air if that were the case.

Matsuzaka is throwing great. Mid 90s fastball, 12-6 curve and a great splitter. He's making alot of these Cubans look silly. I really want to see this guy in the big leagues hopefully in 2007 or 08

Jesus Shuttlesworth
03-21-2006, 01:46 AM
Was that guy out or safe in the 9th? His right hand went inbetween the catcher's legs, and the announcers seemed SO SURE that he was safe but I couldn't tell. Either way, Japan hammered them in the 9th.

I love being a lefty, it makes hitting sidearm and submarine pitchers so much easier.

Huge DP in the sixth :o

He didn't touch the plate, but I don't think the catcher got the tag down either. Dunno :o

YOUR Hero

close call at the plate that's for sure. Didn't matter in the overall outcome.

Cuba made it interesting, but it seems like the Japanesse had a pitching depth advantage, at least on this night.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
03-22-2006, 03:38 PM
So what did you think about this tournament? It was pretty cool I guess but I dunno if it'll stick.

Joey Slugs
03-22-2006, 04:07 PM
I enjoyed it, but if they don't move it to November and change the semi-final seeding (the only way two teams should face eachother a 3rd time is if they are in the finals) it could fail.

RoXer

The Miz
03-22-2006, 06:40 PM
At least in the championship and semi-final rounds, they need to have best of 3 or best of 5 series. Does anyone here think Mexico could beat the US 3 out of 5 times? Every baseball championship around the world is decided by a series, obviously the WBC should be too

BCWWF
03-22-2006, 07:36 PM
I agree, the series is kind of neccessary just because of matchups in pitching.

The Miz

Yeah pitching depth is the one area where the U.S. was just way better than everyone else, but in one game it doesn't really matter. But if Mexico or Korea or Japan or whoever has to face Clemens, Willis, Peavy, Sabathia, Clemens; chances aren't good.
