View Full Version : Mike Awesome
Bad Company

After watching the ECW PPV I saw a side of Mike Awesome that's been missing since he was "that 70s guy".
With the way JBL reacted and how Styles was putting Awesome over as the guy who sold out ECW for a buck did anyone else think that Awesome could become a new member of the cabinet?
Must say that he's pulled himself together since the last time I saw him.

Also, has RVD been released by the WWE?

Not yet.

Releasing RVD after what happened would be the worst move ever. No one has cared about RVD in WWE for a while because of his played out "character" now that he has re-established himself as a credible passionate wrestler, he might finally be able to get the heat for main event status.

I agree the match was absolutely awesome, but he seemed a little winded out there. Tanaka put him over really well. Fantastic night for both of them.

I was pretty impressed with his match last night...though his dive over/through the ropes looked kinda brutal when he landed

Mike Awesome and Tanaka put on one hell of a match, I wasn't expecting it.

I knew it was going to rule the second I saw them on the card. Their fued was right when I was getting back into ECW. I was satisfied. :D

Yeah I knew it was going to be a good match, but I really thought it stole the show, the crowd chanting "this match rules" had to be a good sign.

Has there been anything said about Awsome being injured yet? It looked like he banged up his knee.
Just another example of WWE totally fucking up a major talent. Mike Awesome was easily the best "big man" wrestler in pro wrestling three years ago, yet they never used to him to his full potential. Talentless shits like Undertaker, Kane, Kevin fucking Nash, Gene Snitsky, and Heidenreich all got better pushes than Awesome did in his 5 months with the WWE, before he was fired.
Last night he proved what he can do.
Probably the influence of Paul Heyman that meant Awesome didn't get a chance in the WWE.

I agree with all of those names you mentioned, except for Kane and Snitsky. Kane is pretty decent, and Snitsky can take some good bumps.
I wouldn't mind seeing Awesome replace Orlando Jordan in the Cabinet. Have him come out, challene OJ for the US Title, win, and bam, new Chief of Staff. Or you could turn The Basham Brothers face and have Awesom serve as the "Secretary of Defense". I like the idea of Awesome winning the US Title, though, then finally moving up to take the big belt from JBL (assuming he wins a World Title again) as a slap in the face for bringing him in. A US Title and World Title reing for a new babyface Mike Awesome. I can see it working.

The WWE really needs Paul Heyman as a lead booker and I hope to god they finally see what kind of asset he is to the company after last night.
Out of interest, how is the undertaker talentless?

Why doesn't TNA sign him?

The last time I saw Mike Awesome, (before last night) he was at a TNA pay per view in 2003. He was facing Mike Sanders and well... in short it was a REALLY bad match.
Tonight, was the Mike Awesome I remember from ECW. He was on fire. Him and Tanaka torn up the building. I'll have to see Mike Awesome face another opponent before I can really comment though. Because the Awesome/Tanaka combination is like...
...what Bret Hart is to Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle is to Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam is to Jerry Lynn, Ric Flair is to Ricky Steamboat, Lance Storm is to Chris Candido. Those guys styles just fit absolutely perfectly with each other that there is no way they'll have a below 4 stars match.

Mr. JL said exactly what I was going to say. I love watching Mike Awesome when he is on his game...but there aren't that many people that he will mesh well with. Think about it, in ECW, you had Tanaka and Spike Dudley, those were really the only guys he fueded with. In WCW, the only fueds that resulted in decent matches were Lance Storm and Vampiro. While Mike Awesome is extremely impressive to do the things he does at his size, there just aren't that many guys he can mesh well with.
However, that still puts him at an advantage over half of WWE's roster right now.

Talentless probably isn't the best word, but right now he's just not as "moveable" in the ring as he once was. The guy's a legend, and definately one of the better big man workers in WWE history, but I'd much rather watch as 20-minute Kane match than a 10-minute Undertaker match, but maybe that's just me.

Chemistry is something that really makes epic feuds, IMO. Paul London vs. Akio, I swear if they gave this time, and they let this span three PPVs would draw more interest from the crowd than Triple H vs. Batista. Pairing guys up witht hose that they naturally roll out goodness with is one of the more important rules of booking, IMO.
Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock were brilliant together. Two of the biggest icons in this business, but something else just seemed to click. I honestly believe the could have had a feud with Austin wanting to have sex with The Rock's wife, and it would have made money.
Sometimes chemistry needs to be made, though, which has been pretty much proven with Kurt Angle and Booker T. Two great wrestlers putting on two great matches, but the way they're doing so just isn't clicking. You can smell the chemistry there, but it just didn't work out as well as it could have.
One of the things ECW got right was chemistry. RVD vs. Jerry Lynn, Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven, Little Guido vs. Tajiri vs. Super Crazy, Rey Mysterio vs. Psicosis, Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka, Tazz vs. Sabu. ECW has probably had one of the highest hit-miss ratios whenit comes to getting chemistry between guys right, and that might have something to do with its success. The difference between chemistry and no-chemistry might be ECW and any number of garbage feds.

I don't the the WWE should sign many, if any of the ECW performers last night.
Their act would be toned down so much, and it would be like watching a different guy.

Mike Awesome and JBL would be a good team.
As I watched that match I kept thinking about how much Awesome looks like JBL. Some attire... height... build...

The way WWE is going with this draft lottery and everything, they would put Awesome on SD, let him really get over, then ship him to RAW and then let Triple H bury the living fuck out of him, too.
