View Full Version : Say they do start an ECW brand

Yes another ECW thread, sorry!

Anyway, I was thinking that if they were to bring back ECW as a full time brand, which non ECW do you think would be suitable for the promotion? I only ask this as they will have to get people in from the outside at some point. Here's a few guys that have sprung to my mind:

CM Punk:

He's got that attitude, something about him, he's anti-establishment and seems to have a connection with the fans that others lack and has often been refered to as the Tommy Dreamer of ROH. In fact most of the guys i'm thinking of are from ROH as they are the closest thing to ECW running right now and I feel that anyone from ROH will not make anything better than mid-carder on WWE tv

Samoa Joe

Has got that Taz quality to him, he doesn't look all that special at first, but he can out wrestle almost anyone with ease. Raw/Smackdown would have no idea what to do with this guy either IMO.

American Dragon

A complete pure wrestler, would need a mouth peice IMO, but the guy can work and work fucking well, again i feel he would be wasted on normal programing. But in ECW you could get over by having great matches without the need for promo time to get over and Danielson is one of the few guys I can say with confidence i've never seen a bad match from.

Chris Daniels

Seriously, who thinks this guy wouldn't be awesome there

AJ

You've got a new RVD on your hands, spotfest? Yes, over? Yes

There's others, but these are the guys who stick out to me as potential ECW new blood

I'm definitely agreeing with you here... Due to the huge buyrate and success of the show, they could surely build a solid roster to compete against RAW... Instead of RAW vs. SD!, maybe a little WWE vs. ECW...

I'd build the ECW brand around a lot of key stars...

Commentating Teams:
Joey Styles & Taz
Joey Styles & Joel Gertner

Occasional Appearance:
Steve Austin
Mick Foley
Taz
Sabu
Sandman
Tommy Dreamer
Lance Storm
Dean Malenko

Main Eventing:
Rob Van Dam
Eddie Guerrero
Chris Jericho
Chris Benoit
Rey Mysterio
Rhyno
Masato Tanaka (keep him permanently)
Mike Awesome (")

Tag-Team Division:
Dudley Boyz
Impact Players (Storm retiring though, but a short run w/Credible would help build up the brand)
Tajiri/Whipwreck (give Whipwreck a little run before he officially retires)
Rotten/Mahoney (keep 'em)
F.B.I.
MNM (transfer)
... build more teams...

Cruiserweight Division:
Rey Mysterio (again)
Psicosis
Juventud Guerrera
Little Guido
Super Crazy
Yoshihiro Tajiri
Kid Kash
Spike

Other:
Al Snow
Stevie Richards
Nova
Johnny Swinger

Divas:
Dawn Marie
Francine
***build around these two and hire people over time***

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's perfect to get some money out of people like Al Snow, Richards and Nova considering they contribute nothing significant to WWE TV at this point...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assuming these guys will be competing against a roster with the likes of Kurt Angle, JBL, HHH, HBK, Edge, Christian, Cena, Batista, UnderTaker, Show and Booker, they will need to bring a lot more to the equation... Guys like Sabu, Sandman, Dreamer and Storm won't be around permanently...

I recommend signing these guys full time:

Mike Awesome
Masato Tanaka
Rhyno
Raven
Jerry Lynn
Chris Daniels
AJ Styles
CM Punk
American Dragon
***other hopeful TNA talent***
***scout japanese/mexican scene***

ECW has seemed like a good way to showcase international guys... Japanese and mexican... Seeing a couple of WWE guys moving to ECW could be possible... Obviously nobody like JBL or HHH, but a Batista perhaps...

Steve Corino too... He was gold on the mic and took some nice bumps...

Everyone is truly sold on ECW at this point and both "Internet" fans and "casual" fans will become tune in... With RAW showcasing most of the "WWE/WCW"-bread wrestlers, it could be cool to tune into both shows... Adds a lot more interest and focus than the direction of the WWE/World title the past few years...

Somebody's Gotta Die is onto something there. They can't hire all those guys, but CM Punk, Mike Awesome, Masato Tanaka, Rhyno, Steve Corino, Joey Styles and Joel Gertner are good places to start.

Have Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Muhammad Hassan, Khosrow Daivari (whether you have them keep their gimmicks or not is up to you), Gene Snitsky and all the cruiserweights stay on SD!. Have William Regal show up there too. That's a pretty solid roster, and one Heyman could do wonders for.

Hell, let's just turn Smackdown into an ECW show. Keep the cruiserweights on the show and make a few trades with RAW to offload non-ECW talent. It'd make a whole lot of sense considering SD is being moved from its regular Thursday spot later this year... putting it at a later time on Fridays or whatever will allow more blood, violence and other ECW concepts to be shown.

Firstly, I have to raise my hand and say that I never saw any of ECW during its heyday. After seeing One Night Stand, which btw was kinda undermined in a way by the WWE guys showing up imho, I realise that I have indeed been missing out and I need to see more!

I completely agree with the idea of turning SD into an ECW show. I would love it. If it does happen, we just have to hope that WWE book it correctly (by bringing Paul Heyman back) and don't fuck it up like the InVasion angle, which had so much potential, but we won't go there!

The one thing that is missing from all of your lists is the Blue Meanie!

Bring it back! E C Fuckin' W!!!!

:-\

He's a really weak worker with horrible hygeine... They are better off just making a Nova/Richards tag team, perhaps with Meanie as a manager at most...

Nova/Chetti could be a good team...

I never really cared for them, but any ECW alumni will seemingly go over huge at this point...

Chetti was at One Night Stand for the final segment, wasn't he? I heard Joey Styles mention that he was in the ring along with Johnny Swinger...

What about Simon Diamond? Or have I overlooked someone's list?

And I agree with turning SmackDOWN! into ECW. A real ECW.
