Hello All you wrestling fans and welcome to the forums first ever column by me Splaya. Every Friday from here on out I will review what I thought was good about Raw, Smackdown, and if permitted the monthly PPV. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this and maybe it will be good enough to be put on the front page of the website.
I thought both shows were very good this week but for the first time in a long time, I would take Smackdown over Raw.
Highlights of Raw
-The Jericho/Trish angle. This is one of the main reasons why I still watch Raw. The way I figure it will go down is that everything will pan out this week on Raw. It will be brought on however by a crybaby Christian who will say that Jericho was no fun while they went out. That all he did was bitch and moan about how he wished Trish had been there. He will then call out Trish and say why do you have to cause my best friend to be like this. She will give him some bullshit along the lines of that's his choice or whatever. Christian will then nail her with the Unprettier and a pissed off Jericho will run down and make the save. Thus either setting up a Chris Jericho/Christian match at the Rumble, or Jericho knocking Christian out of the Rumble.
-The Matt Hardy interview. Although he wasn't the high flier that Jeff once was, this Hardy brother is truly showing what he can do. He has great mic skills, and a very good work ethic. He SOLD the spear very well too. I think if HHH ever gets divorced from Stephanie (something all us internet marks are praying for) than he could be main event status someday.
-HHH and Shawn Michaels interview. Whether you hate him or not, HHH has one of the best mic personalities in the business. The sidekick thing, although being repeated for like the 1 millionth time, still got the point across. In most ways though, I still consider HHH to be Shawn's sidekick. Michaels is doing wonders for the WWE right now and it's very hard to believe that his coming back over a year ago was only going to be a one time thing. Anyhow I hate the Coach and that Sweet Chin Music that was delivered was probably the best thing that could have happened.
-The Randy Orton/RVD match. RVD is still by far one of the best workers in the business today. With that being said, before this match Orton had not really impressed me all that much. After this match, he certainly impressed me and without a shadow of a doubt now has my respect. That DDT at the end of the match was just sick. Based also on the fact that Orton supposedly had been knocked out (literally) during the match just adds up to the fact of what a great World Champion he could be in the future. Currently I love the fact that he holds the IC title and his current angles (the other angle is to be explained next)
-The whole Randy Orton/Mick Foley angle. This angle is going to work wonders and I hope that Foley faces Orton at WMXX and goes over Orton only to have Orton win at the next Raw only PPV. The ads that keep running about Randy Orton are very well written. His cockiness is just so good that I think it's only going to get better as long as he gets more TV time (being with HHH and Evolution only enhances those chances by a lot more)
The Low points of RAW
-The Dudley's. I used to like them a lot when they first got onto Raw but lately their Gimmick is so stale that I want them off of my TV set. The worst thing is that they will probably get their tag titles back once they beat Evolution in that Tables match.
Booker T/Kane match. This match was absolutely dead and if it had not been for the fact that my timer was recording the match and I could not change the channel, I would have been flipping through channels until the match was over. Honestly, Kane is so much better than this (although in time my prayers will be answered and he will be in a monster feud). I am not so much a Booker T mark and I believe that he should be in the mid-card. Kane should be world title, Booker should be IC title or just wrestling mid card people.
-Goldberg vs Scott Steiner next week on Raw. This will be me the whole match either :o or :'( because I'll either be bored or I will be crying because its so boring. One thing that needs to not happen is that this had better not be the main event. I would rather have all the wrestlers in the back come out and have a "mini rumble/brawl" in the ring than have this as the main event.
-Mark Henry/Jericho match. It's very clear that Jericho has unofficially turned face due to the fact that he is now wrestling heels. But for God sakes after the Rumble get him out of the mid-card. It'll be music to my ears if this happens.
Raw Sign of the Week: Some chick holding up a sign: I Used to be "RAW" once.
Smackdown Highlights of the week
Heyman/Cena interview. I think with the way it went last night, send Beniot over to Raw to face HHH and let Cean feud with Heyman. It could be ratings gold in my opinion. The obvious best line of the interview was "I'll bounce you like an ECW check". I marked out at that moment.
-Rhyno being aligned with Heyman. This could be Rhyno's chance to get on Smackdown and stay there. I for one loved Rhyno during the invasion and because of his neck injury we will never know what he could have been during the time that he missed. However, I think now might be the perfect time to give him a push that will at least get him back on the midcard of Smackdown. As long as he is on Smackdown, that is perfectly fine with me although I would like to see him win some matches, not just job to everyone that the WWE throws at him (and no more wins against Shannon Moore or a low level Velocity Cruiserweight or no name jobber either)
-The Kurt Angle/Eddie Geuerro interview. Although a tad bit long I thought it was the best segment of the night. It clearly planted the seeds of a Angle heel turn to face Eddie at WMXX. I dont know how they are going to turn him heel or how this angle would work out but right now I would actively push for an Angle and Eddie match. Too bad it would not be for the title.
The whole Eddie/Chavo Jr and Sr. interview. Although it was also long. It pointed out to me because of the sneak attack this feud will lead into the Smackdown only PPV. Where most people disagree with this, I would support it. Let's say Eddie and Kurt Angle would team against the 2 Chavo's. By now your probably wondering, Splaya, what the hell are you thinking. Simple. It would be the easiest way to turn Kurt Angle heel by turning on Eddie and it would be an even easier way to catapult Eddie back into the Upper card. After this is all said and done I would have Chavo be in the Cruiserweight division and feud with Noble or Rey Rey.
The last 25 minutes of the show. It had an excellent match where Rhyno could cheat to win by using ECW rules and Cena had to only use wrestling moves. All the weapons that were used by Rhyno, Cena sold effectively. I loved the outcome of the match even though I saw it coming. The ending was great even with another great line being used by Cena telling Heyman "Don't spit it out, We all know you Swallow" Another Classic line by Cena. It was also funny to see that Heyman was literally crying from tasting the soap. Whether he was actually crying from the taste or if it was just a work, it was very good acting.
Lowpoints of the week for Smackdown.
This whole Lesnar/Holly/Show thing. Honestly, I like the idea of Big Show vs Holly. It would be getting a hoss and an idiot into a ring and hopefully cancelling each other out. My biggest fear is that Holly will actually try and do moves that will try to "break Lesnar's neck" and will accidently break his neck. Honestly there is no more Tough Enough so we get stuck with watching him on Smackdown. I hope there is another Touch Enough coming soon or that Lesnar breaks his neck again.
Jaime Noble. I'm sick of his character and I really wish he was on Velocity. Why he is getting a title shot and not Akio for Rey CW title at the Rumble just baffles me. Worst part about is is that they will probably give Noble his long deserved CW title. Best case scenario though is that Nidia will "regain" her sight and screw over Rey.
Quote of the week from SD: Paul don't spit it out we all know you swallow. John Cena telling Heyman not to spit out the soap that Heyman had to eat because Rhyno lost the first ever "loser has to eat soap" match.
Anyhow that concludes my first column. If you wish to email me do so at imnumber1_1999@yahoo.com. Thanks all and have a great weekend.
