I read last night that the Yankees plan to have a new stadium, about 4,000 less seats but 60 or so more luxury suites, open by 2009. It said that the Mets also plan to have one open by then and that both stadiums will be located right next to the old ones.

Personally, both of these are retarded.

The Mets:
I love the Mets, I think they are the shit, but Shea frankly sucks. I'm not just talking about the stadium, but the location of it is the worst. It's like a big stupid looking stadium in the middle of nowhere, with nothing surrounding it but parking lots.

The Mets play in a big market and have a lot of money, obviously they can afford to make a pretty kick ass stadium somewhere, why put it in flushing so it can stand out like a sore toe?

The Yankees:
Money money money. That is all that this is about. I guess I don't know how New York fans feel, but from my gut opinion I wouldn't think anybody be in favor of this besides the ones that are going to profit from it. Why would you put away a perfectly good ballpark that has more history then any other ballpark to build another one right next to it? Who gives a shit if they have wider foul zones and more suites, they are making enough money to put out a 200 million dollar payroll right now, how much more do they need?

I don't think the Yankees would be the same without Yankee Stadium.

I don't know necessarily that it could give them much more of a profit. New stadiums take money to maintain more so than old ones more often than not.

Personally I don't care where a team plays. The Mets could come play in my backyard as long as they want to win consistently.

I hope they blow up Yankee Stadium

There is so much more potential money to be made from these new parks with the high priced luxury suites that I doubt it won't be long before all parks/stadiums are replaced. History don't pay the bills.

Yeah new parks are pretty sweet though. Like losing the history sucks but the new ballparks are all really really nice and a lot better than the old parks in every aspect other than the historic value.

The other thing, why not just blow up the old Yankee and Shea then? Why build a brand new one next to an old one. Its not like a football stadium where it has all kinds of uses. Like the White Sox left Comiski Park next to the new US Cellular or whatever, what purpose does it have now?

To address my hero's comments..I know what your saying and whatnot, but I just don't see how the Yankees of all teams need to move out of a historic building just to make more money. The Twins need to change stadiums to make more money, the Yankees don't.

Saw the pictures for the new park. It looks like a lot of old Yankee Stadium's feel and look will be incorporated. The players they talked to as well were very excited about it. 800 million dollars however, wow.

Shea is a terrible stadium.

I really don't want to see Yankee stadium go, it just won't be the same, no matter how nice the new stadium is.

FakeRazor hit the nail on the head. I agree completely.

I think they will keep it up, maybe as a historical landmark or whatever.

That would be the smart thing, anyway.

It sounds like thats what they plan to do, from the article I read. It sounds like they are going to keep Shea up too. I wouldn't care if they tore down Shea, I don't think many people would.

I just don't really understand what you can do with a big old baseball stadium though? Turn it into a museum or what?

Yeah make some type of team museum in it, and have tours around the park and stuff like that. Tours at parks when they are in use suck because there is so much stuff you can't do. You can't even touch the grass on the field. If you closed it down though, you would be able to have a much more intresting tour. Still seems like sort of a waste though, I am sure you could make much more money off the space. Like Outlaw said though, it's a historic landmark.

They aren't talking about getting rid of Fenway are they?

The reason it is shitty to get new stadiums in Boston, New York, and Chicago is because even if they don't have a state of he art place, they are still bringing in the money. So its like end these historical buildings so the richest teams can make more money. BAH

They're saying that Yankee stadium will be used by high school teams as well as other amature baseball events. That plus the tour thing you guys mentioned would be a fitting use for it.
