Boston, Texas, and Baltimore all have stronger offenses than Anaheim.

Texas and Baltimore have shit for pitching. That's why they've both fallen off the pace in their divisions. The BoSox have a weak pen but are the most likely to do something big near the deadline to make their team an even bigger favorite.

Texas has no pitching and Baltimore is destined for 3rd place. They've already lost their division lead to Boston.

Me, I say the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Great offence as well as good starting pitching, backed up by great relievers.

Factor that with.... the factor:wtf: (loss for words, thurrrr) they'll be coming out of a weak division and match up very well for an over extended and so far over rated White Sox team.

I am thinking the Red Sox too. In the beginning of the year, even with the White Sox winning the division, I thought the Twins had a good chance this year, but now they will be lucky to even make the playoffs. Like Stima, I am going to go with the Red Sox and the Cardinals, but I'm not sure who I have winning yet. Kind of depends on Schilling too I guess.

Chicago White Sox

... and why.
When the White Sox get men on base, they find a way to score. Stealing, bunting, hit and runs, sac flies; the White Sox know how to produce runs. They have great lineup balance; an excellent combination of on-base guys, average guys, and power guys. There starting pitching is as good if not better than any other in the league. I don't care what any of you silly Canadians think, Mark Buehrle is the best pitcher in the AL right now. The only thing I can see stopping them is their bullpen and their manager. Guillen makes some bonehead moves sometimes.

YOUR Hero

Mark Buerle is great, but so what. The Angels are a far more dangerous line up and their pitching is as good, if not better. I'm including the bullpen.

The Miz
06-27-2005, 09:45 PM
I don't have any idea how you can say the Angels have a far more dangerous line up

Vladimir Guerrero: 11 homers, 37 rbi, 16 walks, 6 stolen bases
The Chicago White Sox: 91 homers, 343 rbi, 208 walks, 80 stolen bases

Lol, you are kind of digging a hole Zen.

Anyway, I just don't like the White Sox winning it all because I don't think they have playoff pitching. The only pitcher I would count on to win in the playoffs is Buehlre, we'll see what happens though.

Angels

They have a good, versatile line-up anchored by the best player in the AL (if not all of baseball) Vlad Guerrero.

They're crazy deep. I mean, a lot of their regulars have missed significant time and they haven't lost a step. In fact, that depth probably means they are the most likely team to be able to trade for a quality player around the trade dealine.

Starters are effective, if not great. And the relievers are lights out.

Plus, in a match-up of managers, I'd take Scisocia over Francona any day of the week.

Angels win the AL by beating the Red Sox and then edging the Cards in the WS.

Yeah, gotta agree with that...I'd be surprised if it were a sweep once again, but I think the Red Sox will come out on top in the long run...both the Sox and the Cardinals have complete teams, but the Sox lineup is definately more overpowering, IMO.

Incredible bet. There's just no way to say no to odds that sweet. Especially in the National League where if the Cards stumble, it's anyone's pennant.

The bullpen has big the biggest problem for the Red Sox this season but even with Schilling out and bullpen struggles they are still in first place. Plus since they finally did win one I think the pressure will be off them a little bit and that will help them reach the World Series once again. With Schilling back the staff will be pretty damn good, Clement has been pitching out of his mind and it looks like Wells got his groove back after coming back from injury. The bullpen has been up and downs but come playoff time you are figuring atleast Arroyo and probably Wakefield will be in there - both doing pretty well this year (Wakefield has been on a roll as of late) Embree has been a disgrace this season though, he gave up 2 more earned runs tonight to ballon his ERA up to almost 8 (7.7 or something) so before July 31st the Sox might want to address getting a real good lefty in the pen.

Gotta go with the Cardinals. Probably the best 5 man rotation in the league and certainly they have the best lineup in the NL. The key I think is their bullpen. Tavarez, King, Thompson, and Izzy have all been fantastic so far this year. Plus the fact they've done it without Rolen who is good for 25 and 100 every year means they're only getting deeper and better.

All I can say is if the Nationals win I will cry like a little girl.

I'm not sure what is worse the Nationals playing so well now or when the Nordiques left Quebec City and won the Stanley Cup.

Hoping for the Angels, because like Zen and a few other posters, I think Vlad is man. Fuck if he was still with the Nationals organization there'd be no stopping them.

I made that thread because the NL East had the most teams in contention, maybe "most competitive" wasn't the correct phrase. Anyway, the Phillies and Mets blow and we don't really know how good the other 3 are. But the East is the strongest of the NL divisions.
