OK, the WWE is doing something here. They have the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship on RAW and the soon to be spawned SmackDown! Championship on SD!. Why would the WWE do that? Some say it is to give JBL or Muhammad Hassan a big win, and a title, so that Batista can get drafted and beat them becoming the true Champion of SD!.
I was just thinking what possible good can come out of having three Champions in the WWE? I think it would work if written well, but I think there are doubts about that. This has to have the OK of Vince, so I think there MUST be something planned in regards to this title's future. Here are two scenarios I can see the WWE taking, that haven't already become public debate (at least I don't think they have). They may not be the greatest ideas, but it is just a discussion of ideas I can see the WWE taking with this:
Three Champions on RAW
It seems the WWE is forgetting they said that Draft Picks #4 & #5 will be drawn on this week's shows, and they seem to be stalling the conclusion of the draft lottery. Well, since Teddy Long is creating the SmackDown! Championship this week on SD!, how much a pain would it be for his Champion to get drafted the next week to RAW. I think JBL or Booker T would be the best picks for Champion if they went ahead with this storyline.
Anyway, you then have the SmackDown! Champion come out and cut a promo about how he will be the best Champion WWE has to offer, which brings out Batista who explains he won the Royal Rumble, has beaten Triple H three-times, one of which being in a Hell in a Cell Match, etc. Then Cena comes out and brings up the WWE Championship's lineage (yes, the WCW Title part of it, too). This brings out Eric Bischoff who says that RAW will have one "WWE Champion" via title unification. This brings out Vince McMahon, who tells us that there will be a title unification match, and the winner will win all the Championships in the WWE, but the WWE Champion will then appear on RAW & SmackDown!.
We have a Triple Threat Match signed for Summerslam, with all three competitors being signed for defenses earlir in the night as well. Cena defends against Chris Jericho, Batista defends against Edge & Booker T defends against Triple H. All three Champions retain, and then they have a Triple Threat Elimination Match later that night. Booker T pins Batista with a sunset flip out of the corner and John Cena pins Booker T with an F-U.
John Cena now appears on RAW and SmackDown! as WWE Champion. He also has the lineage of the World Heavyweight Championship and SmackDown! Championship (which recognises only him and Booker T as Champions) dissolved into it.
Lower-Title Ranks
In a way, the World Heavyweight Championship is really the "RAW Championship". It was created by Eric Bischoff when Brock Lesnar made the Undisputed Championship exclusive property of SD!. Now SmackDown! has to create a Championship, which down the track about 20 years, will probably be seen as an equal to the World Heavyweight Championship (if both belts last that long), only being the title's younger brother by about three years.
OK, so you now have Batista and the winner of the Six-Way this week as RAW and SmackDown! Champions, but you also have Cena as WWE Champion. It almost seems in a rank of its own, and when you consider its history, it is.
Why not entertain that idea, and restore the WWE Championship to its original status of being able to grant its Champion immunity to the restrictions of the draft? John Cena would appear on RAW and SmackDown! as the most prestigious Champion in the WWE. Batista and the winner next week (for arguement's sake, let's just say Chris Benoit) are the brand exclusive RAW & SD! Champions (change the name of the World Heavyweight Title officially to "RAW Title"). The RAW Champion and SmackDown! Champion have the automatic right to challenge the WWE Champion if no other contender is present, much like the IC and US Championship now.
To make the RAW and SD! Championships worthy of holding, they are defended on EVERY television show. The RAW Champion, whose belt remains similiar to the old WCW Title, defends the title twice a week. One on RAW, and then once again on Heat. The SmackDown! Champion, whose belt is similiar to an old WWE Title model, defends the belt on both SmackDown! and Velocity.
So you now have the WWE Championship in a league of its own above all the other titles in the world. You then have the RAW Champion and SD! Champion as official "Heavyweight Champions", being listed as the top exclusive guy on a brand. Below them are the IC and US Champions, who have the right to challenge for the RAW and SD! Champions when no other challenger is present. To close the gap between the SD! and RAW Titles, you also have the Cruiserweight Champion have challenging powers. This might also help elevate the division above its current rank.
Would any of these ideas work, or are they both hopeless?
