Hotel Hulkamania: On Byte this, Jim Ross had this to say about Hulk Hogan:
Ross compares Hogan to Classic Rock. There are always times when you want to hear Classic Rock. For Ross, it’s the Eagles. JR tires (Typo, their behalf) to catch their concert whenever he gets a chance to. Ross calls Hogan a bonified piece of Americana. He is a piece of American pop-culture. He is like listening to ‘Hotel California’ one more time. Ross doesn’t get tired of listening to that song, and for Hogan fans, they never get tired of watching him. The reaction he got Monday night was over-whelming. No one was expecting him to be there. It’s a testament to his staying power. That is one difference maker. He still has significance value at this stage of the game.
Credit, PWinsider.
Yeah, Hulkamania is like "Hotel California." And the WWE is like MTV. When's the last time you saw a video for Hotel California on MTV?
Nostalgia's great. Classics are great. Doesn't mean it fits.
Finished? You notice that you have a hard time naming finishers for new heels? I think this may be part of the reason they seem so bland. I don't think a single casual fan could name the finishers for Hassan, Carlito, Morgan (Though he's been lately using an F-5, maybe this'll stay?), Jindrak, Renee, HEI-DEN-REICH, Snitsky, Tomko, Maven (Technically he has a finisher, it's just so BLAND no-one gives a shit), Dean, etc.?
Yeah. BORING. Why? In tense matches, a face kicking out of a strong heel finisher is a pretty big deal. Kicking out after a Maven Dropkick, or a Carlito...Whatever, is  next match please.
Mexi-Cool: This was so absud it was enjoyable. I just had to throw these guys out there.

I have a hard time noticing wrestlers with finishers nowadays.
I mean, outside of Benoit, Rey Mysterio, HHH, Batista, Cena, Christian et al...
where ARE the finishers?
I just see the Complete Shot regurgitated across the board...
and LOL, Carlito never uses a finisher in his matches.

I love how they all have like listed finishers on their site and how few use them. I know that the listed finisher for Snitsky (Pumphandle) has been used a couple times...But not often.

Also:
Heidenreich is comedy gold. He's like a retarded Hulk Hogan.
"Whatcho gonna do when all my friends run will over you?"
I find myself appreciating comedy angles on wrestling more and more the shittier the " serious" stuf gets. The longer this has progressed, the higher on the charts I rate the comedy angles. Mexicool stole the show IMO two weeks in a row.

Yeah, but that's because the serious stuff usually has to do with a pregnancy, HHH throwing a bitch-fit, or Kurt Angle threatening to rape a black woman.
I agree though. The funny, and sometimes unintentionally funny stuff is much easier to appreciate. I watched Randy Orton fuck up the RKO on Jericho like twenty times in a row.

Now I'm curious.. What was the last actual "finisher" to be given a name....
And no, Batista Bomb does not count.

I don't follow. Last original finisher, or just last finisher in general?
Originals (to my knowledge): Verti-Breaker (Shane Helms), Styles Clash (AJ Styles and Crash Holly), ................................and my brain just crashed.
(I don't watch anything except WWE, WCW, ECW, TNA, Portland Wrestling so I might not be exactly correct. Feel free to correct me.)

And it is?
He did the Overdrive on SD!. Since he's been on RAW he's been teasing the Front Russian Leg Sweep.
Does anyone else remember that period when Jericho was pulling finishers out of his ass? The Breakdown (Front Russian Leg Sweep) & Flashback (Sleeper Drop) come to mind.
They need to start naming finishers again. The Heart Throbs can call their Double STO the "Heart STOpper", and...um...I dunno about the rest. :-\

Plus Jericho was using his enziguri as a finisher too... Dude had like 5 finishers at once.
MnM has the snapshot.
Hassan's finisher needs a legit name.

The unintentionally funny is someties the best. When Michelle decided to catfight Melina as Mercury was taking on Heidenreich? Fucking hilarious. Mostly because both "wrestlers" are such total shit.

The Snapshot works, especially since MElina telegraphs it. Makes it easy to go "Oh no..."

I'm surprised JR knows what MTV is.
Also, yeah, the heels need better finishers. Or at least named finishers. Part of the drama of a big match is that feeling that either man could put the other away with just one move.
Doesn't Hassan use that Reverse STO to finish his matches pretty often. They should just start calling that 'The Decapitator' and call it a day.

Considering the fact that Jeff Hardy does Hassan's finisher better and it has a name...I'm surprised at you guys.
Name is the Flatliner.

I actually saw the "Verti-Breaker" in TWA before I ever saw Shane Helms do it.

Actually, most of US know it's called a Flatliner. However, how many casual fans do you think know that?

I don't think he does. I was simply following the "Classic Rock" analogy.
The WWE is pop culture, and there really is no place for "Classic Rock" in wrestling right now (Not til TNA returns to the dial). WCW used to be the spot for it, TNA has a upper card heavy with "Classic Rock," but if the WWE wants to be a niche station of reruns, they're going about it all wrong.

Yeah, so all the TNA'ers know what a Flatliner is.
That's exactly the point. Beyond "smarks" "Net Fans" and so forth, people don't know it, because it's not really been named. I mean, come on. It's called a "Modified STO" right on their bio page for him, which is what JR's been calling it. OF course, maybe they'll call it the Flatliner on Smackdown. But this far, no such luck.
