I was wondering do you guys think the WWE management will ever give RVD the boost he needs to be say WWE Champ or World Heavyweight Champ. He has been so underutilzed up until this point with his biggest matches occuring about 4 years ago during the whole Invasion era. So do you think with RVD going to RAW that he we be used more proactively?

If the writers capitalise on RVD's shoot at ONS then there's no reason why he wouldn't. If he perhaps used his old 'Mr Monday Night' gimmick, but in reverse, where he constantly celebrates that he was the heart and soul of the mighty ECW - the organisation that changed wrestling and mocks the failures of Smackdown and Raw, then he might go far. Just an idea though.
If he keeps this gimmick that really started at One Night Stand, he can go far. If the WWE is being their usual selves, though, no. He'll have maybe one or two main events on RAW and then start jobbing on Heat.

In a month, he'll be back to having a four word vocabulary.

they are not about to let RVD outshine anybody. He will be doomed to look through that glass ceiling and never break it.

That is just retarded that the WWE is letting probably one of its best talents go to waste like that. But during the RAW draft he was in an ECW shirt so here is hope they will allow him to be the edgier RVD that he was in ECW. He is probably the most entertaining wrestler I have ever seen and WWE needs to let him let lose or at least get him involved in a storyline of some sort. I have kinda always liked the idea of RVD becoming a heel to give him the extra boost he needs but I guess that will never happen.

Retarded though it may be, the WWE doesn't seem to get the sheer ammount of talent they're sitting on. I often wonder if they keep these gusy more so they just can't go anywhere else.

Serious? I know he's talented in the ring, but I wouldn't say he's the most entertaining wrestler I've ever seen. I'd take a Rock promo followed by a People's elbow to a generic heel than a RVD thumbs up and Frog splash any hour of any day of any week.

The frustrating thing is they missed a really big chance with RVD during the invasion angle when he was definitely the biggest Alliance member pop wise, in fact maybe getting the biggest pops out of the whole roster. Exaggeration maybe but they missed the boat back then...with a load of other stuff of course.

That is what WWE is doing for Rob Van Dam right there because he used to be more vocal, now all they have him so toned down its like he is a different person just with the same moves. Damn when is the WWE going to wake up and give him creative control over what he can say. They let Stone Cold say whatever the hell he wanted to back in the late '90s so this should not be an issue whatsoever. Of course I guess the WWE doesn't want the Feds to look in to what they are doing.

Well, the WWE does things differently. They don't really run with the talents of a given person. Ever see the episode of Family Guy where Y2K kills almost everyone, Peter builds new Quahog, and everyone has to take jobs out of a hat? I think that's how they assign gimmicks.
"Matt Morgan, you have drawn 'stuttering idiot.' You'll lve it. It's how Goldust and Bubba Ray got over."
"Didn't Goldust get fired during that push?"
"Of course not. Must be remembering wrong."
---
"Rob, your new gimmick is pretty close to your old gimmick, except you don't fly, you don't talk, and you sound like a broken record of a surfer. *Hands him dictionary* these are the words you are not allowed to use."
---
"Chris, you have drawn 'Hunter's Bitch." Oooh, that's a good one. You see, what you get to do is pick another card from the hat, and you play that role, but you get punked out by almost everyone."

They don't put him in main events because the WWE doesn't want their top stars injured. RVD is too stiff.

I thought they killed his momentum from ONS last week on RAW.
Having him fued for the IC title is not a step up. If they were going to give him a chance to headline, it would have been coming off the ECW stuff, but its clear thats not the case.

Seriously, nobody can argue that if they let RVD be RVD, the world would be a better place. OK, maybe not the world, but certainly the WWE. It's not smart business to keep a talented individual from using all of their ability.
"Hey, this guy is way over AND we haven't even tried to push him... What should we do about it? Push him?"
"Pfft... You tell that asshole that he can't ever say more than 3 words per promo and if I see any high flying moves from him, he will be fined 80 billion dollars. We'll show him what he gets for being naturally talented and charismatic!!!"

It's a shame. Whether you are a fan or not of RVD, based on fans response at the beginning of the Invasion angle he should of held the Heavyweight title at some point.
Yay he'll end up being a 20 time IC champion. We all know how much weight that belt now holds.

No shit man. I loved RVD in ECW. This is going to sound cliche and stink of an ECW fan wannabe but memories of his matches with Jerry Lynn are stronger than memories for my own mother.
He is an awesome talent in the ring, no doubt. But as an all round performer and entertainer, I'd rather be in an arena with Dwayne.

Someone on these boards once compared wrestling to the Circus. "If the elephants are your big act, you don't want the clowns to outshine them" or some shit like that.
The problem with that sentiment is that a circus runs with its most popular acts as a finale. You don't tell the tumblers to tone it down because the Lions are drunk and the Elephant tends to tear his quad. You don't make the highwire act pay his dues.
The problem is, the driving force behind the WWE is one who doesn't seem to have much of a clue. Before Hogan, McMahon was kinda up shit creek. They ran based on traditional things people went to see, and it looks like they're doing the same thing now. The problem is, what people want has changed. You can't do vanilla white hats vs evil guys with facial hair, squash matches on major shows, etc., Because people got into the Austin anti-hero shit, and Cruiserweights, etc.
And you gotta love a company where they whine about RVD and Jericho working too stiff, but hire Goldberg. But as long as it's primarily hosses for the title, we won't see RVD gain a push.

Rob Van Dam is currently targeting August for his in ring return. Backstage, RVD receives a tremendous amount of respect from a lot of the wrestlers for being real and his brutal honesty in interviews. Wrestlers in the WWE respect him for saying what he thinks in interviews and being able to at least somewhat get away with it, even though it probably has hurt him at times.
One story that has surfaced claims that RVD disappeared backstage at a Raw taping, and HHH was looking for him. HHH found him, put his arm around RVD and said, "Where have you been?" RVD pulled HHH's arm off of him and replied, "You know where I've been, I've been smoking dope while you were burying me behind my back."
Just saw this and thought you guys would enjoy it.

HHH was in a horrible position for that spot though. You should be a safe wrestler, but when it comes to high spots shit can happen. Think of the number of exciting spots RVD created without hurting someone. I definitely think his good far outshines the isolated episodes of bad.
Also, Angle's hurt a few people and he was never held back.

Tons of "safe" workers have injured people. Accidents do happen. If he can only pull 3 instances out of his hat, it's pretty much an indication of a loss. I mean, Austin's severely injured people before...Foley's been injured by "soft" workers...And he was in E C F'ing W.

Thats just the thing, he SHOULD have held it but it seems practically impossible at this point. But hopefully when he returns in August they will change his gimmick to the old RVD that everyone liked.
