I've got a couple and I can't do shit with them. How do I make them a normal format?

get powerDVD or some decent DVD software, that'll play your VOBs

I can play the VOB's, I just can't combine two into one clip!

That's a guide to using VobEdit, maybe it has some steps you haven't done or weren't aware of. Failing that try demultiplexing them as it explains in one of the links.
