Here are the results from tonight's Velocity and Smackdown tapings in Worcester, MA

Velocity/Dark Matches:
- Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney defeated The Shane Twins. ECW!

- Simon Dean (yep, not Nova, Simon Dean) defeated Mike Kruel.

- Frankie Kazarian defeated Nunzio with a Perfectplex.

- Muhammad Hassan cut a promo. I went to the bathroom (figured you all were dying to know that).

- Chris Benoit defeated William Regal with the Crippler Crossface. Set your Tivo people, this was fantastic. This match should be on PPV, not a show hardly anyone watches.

Smackdown results:

These may be out of order, I apologize in advance.

- Eddie Guerrero teased revealing Rey Mysterio's secret, but ends up in a confrontation with Hardcore Holly.

- Super Crazy, Psicosis & Juventud defeated Paul London, Scotty 2 Hotty, and Funaki in a six-man. I guess Benoit and Regal were on Velocity because all the Cruiserweights that are left were here.

- MNM beat up on Heidenreich until, get this ... ROAD WARRIOR ANIMAL makes the save.

- Eddie Guerrero defeats Hardcore Holly with a Lasso From El Paso after hitting Holly in the leg with a pipe.

- Christian beat up Booker T before they could have a match, ramming him into the steps over and over. He then made the ref count a pin anyway.

- They do a bit where a lawyer, representing Muhammad Hassan, says Hassan won't be on TV until he beats Undertaker at the Great American Bash. Taker comes out to a monster pop and destroys him.

- JBL ranted and raved about being a better champion than Batista, promised to take the belt at the Bash, and so on and so on....

- Batista defeated Orlando Jordan (no titles on the line). After the match, JBL laid out Batista and stood over him with the belt.

- Triple H came out and joined JBL in beating on Batista until John Cena came out for the dark match main event, which ended with Cena pinning JBL.

Announced for the Great American Bash:
- Melina vs. Torrie in a Bra & Panties match.
- MNM defending the tag titles against Heidenreich & Road Warrior Animal.
- Christian vs. Booker T.
- Orlando Jordan defending the U.S. Title against Chris Benoit.
- Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan.
- World Champion Batista vs. JBL.

Eh, nothing huge, but considering they, unlike Raw, have a PPV on the horizon, now is not the time to introduce any new stories that require lots of time to explain/unfold (i.e. Hogan/Michaels). Road Warrior Animal is a total "WTF?" inclusion (aside from the opportunity to sickeningly overshill the Road Warriors DVD), as is pointlessly carting out Holly to job to Eddie (even so, I'll probably be marking out for the return of the Lasso as Eddie's finisher - high flying moves are too babyface-ish, after all. :p ) I assume the Hassan stuff is based on this news (or is it still just on "rumor" status?) of UPN not wanting Hassan and his bad press around.

And hey, how 'bout that whole actually depicting Batista as a credible champ thing? Jibble is a heel I love to hate, and Batista is a face I love to...well, love. That's all you need for a solid and entertaining (if not epic and memorable) championship feud.

As it stands, Raw feels like the "big event" show, whereas Smackdown is a bit quieter, but more solid. (But as a SD fanboy, I'm probably inclined to spin more favorably for one side.)

Eddie G isn't using the Lasso... He's actually using the Texas Clover Leaf ( I'm anal, but there's a difference)

OK, if Heidenreich arrives at Great American Bash in Road Warrior regalia, I would mark out.

The Hassan bit was explained on an article in the front page where the lawyer says that Hassan won't come out because he's being persecuted by the media. I thought that was a clever way to continue his push and to appease UPN. :)

Road Warrior Animal? Nice! I, too, would love to see Heidenreich in L.O.D. attire. :D

I wrote you guys...a POEM!

Roses are red, violets are blue!
I'm gonna be part...of the Legion of Doom!
I will come out at the Bash, and the crowd will hush

This Smackdown sounds awesome. I love there roster. I think WWE new what they were doing. If Heidenrich comes out as a LoD/Road Warrior and actually acts like a LoD/Road Warrior. I would go nuts.

I havent watched a single smack down for almost a year. Just read spoilers. I seriously may watch this one.

If the Chris Benoit vs Regal match is just one quarter of the match they put on at the Brian Pillman show. Wow.

Is Hawk dead? I never knew that. I heared that Animal and Hawk have never wrestled a match without each other. Looks like that will end at GAB.

The One
07-13-2005, 04:00 AM
snakeboss, Animal and Hawk have both wrestled hundreds of matches without each other. Hell they both have had single title matches for the NWA World Title back when, to further that Hawk has been a World Champion of Catch Wrestling Association and at one point Animal was a part of Ric Flair's stable back in the dying days of WCW where he wrestled once a week in single matches (and in some random tag matches) without Hawk even being signed to a WCW contract. So, no, the none-real record doesn't end at Great American Bash.

Oh and yes, Michael Hegstrand or Hawk died tragically on October 18, 2003 in his sleep after not feeling well early that day.

Here are more detailed spoilers.

DARK MATCH

- Balls Mahoney & Axl Rotten defeated the Shane Twins. "ECW" got a great ovation but the match wasn't very crisp.

VELOCITY TAPING

- "The Future" Frankie Kazarian defeated Nunzio. After the win, Kazarian got some mic time, saying he is the future "and the future is bright."

- Simon Dean defeated Mike Kruel. After the match, Dean shoved a protein bar down Kruel's throat.

- In the middle of the Velocity taping, the set changed to the Smackdown images for a promo with Muhammad Hassan and Khosrow Daivari. Hassan said he's the last true American hero but is labeled a terrorist. Daivari spoke in Arabic about The Undertaker.

- Chris Benoit defeated William Regal via submission. Benoit used a tombstone piledriver followed by the Crippler Crossface for the win. I don't know about "sports entertainment," but this was one of the better pro wrestling matches WWE has offered in awhile, including some good color from Regal. Worth going out of your way to see if you don't normally watch Velocity.

SMACKDOWN TAPING

- Smackdown opened with Eddie Guerrero cutting a promo saying that Rey Mysterio wasn't at the building tonight. He said it was time for a bedtime story for Domenic and he was going to expose the secret. Guerrero's wife, Vicki, and their two daughters came to ringside before he could reveal what the secret is. Eddie forcefully grabbed his wife and walked her to the back.

- Coming back from commercial break, Guerrero was walking his family to the car as his wife pleaded with him not to hurt Mysterio and his family. They walked by a host of independent wrestlers from New England, including Todd Hanson and "Slyk" Wagner Brown. As Eddie was screaming at his wife, Hardcore Holly tried to calm him down. Eddie's wife slapped him across the mouth.

- Mexicools (Juventud Guerrera & Super Crazy & Psicosis) defeated Paul London & Scotty Too Hotty & Funaki. Juvy pinned Paul London following a 450 splash where Juvy appeared to land on London's face. The taping was delayed for a few minutes while the medical staff came out to check on London, but he made it to the back on his own.

- Back from break, a camera was on Candice Michelle, who looking in the mirror for no apparent reason. Christian came up to her and talked about wanting to be her friend, and how the younger wrestlers of Smackdown were coming to him for advice on how to be a superstar. Booker T and Sharmell were walking by and started laughing at him, setting up a match for later on.

- Backstage, Josh Matthews interviewed Batista about his match with JBL at Great American Bash.

- Melina was upset about Torrie being on the cover of the new Smackdown magazine and ripped it out of her hands. She said Torrie is old and washed up. Torrie challenged her to a bra and panties match.

- Heidenreich was coming to the ring for a match and MNM attacked him from behind. While they were double-teaming him, Road Warrior Animal's music and entrance video hit. Animal came out and cleaned house. MNM ran into the crowd and Mercury challenged the Road Warriors to a tag team title match at Great American Bash. Nitro interrupted and said they couldn't because Hawk was dead. Instead, Animal offered to let Heidenreich be his friend at the Bash and the match was made. The crowd was disgusted by the remark about Hawk.

- Eddie Guerrero defeated Hardcore Holly via submission. Guerrero got the win using the Texas Cloverleaf after using a black club from under the ring while the ref had something in his eye. After the match, Guerrero challenged Mysterio to a match at the Bash where if Guerrero won, he would tell the world the secret, but if he lost, he would keep it locked away forever.

- Muhammad Hassan's attorney, Thomas Whittman, came to the ring and announced that Hassan is taking a leave of absence from WWE and would not appear on Smackdown until he defeats the Undertaker on pay-per-view. He said a match had already been signed for Undertaker-Hassan at the Bash. Undertaker came out to chokeslam and tombstone the lawyer in a segment that went over pretty well with the live crowd.

- Christian defeated Booker T (w/Sharmell). Christian jumped both Booker and Sharmell on their way to the ring. Christian tossed Booker into the ring steps and gave him the Unprettier for the pin in an extremely quick match.

- The Great American Bash line-up was reviewed: Batista vs. JBL for the World Championship, Undertaker vs. Muhammad Hassan, Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio in a "Secret Match," Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan for the U.S. Title, MNM vs. Road Warrior Animal & Heidenreich for the Tag Team Titles, Booker T vs. Christian, Torrie Wilson vs. Melina in a Bra & Panties Match.

- Batista defeated Orlando Jordan in a Champion vs. Champion match. JBL cut a promo before the match about the Blue Meanie before saying that Batista wouldn't wrestle him at WrestleMania 21 earlier in the year when he had a chance. He had the camera zoom in on the stitches on his face and the staples on his head from last week. JBL interfered constantly during the match, leading to a ref bump where JBL clocked Batista with a chair. JBL rolled Jordan on top, but only got a two count. Batista recovered and hit the Batista Bomb for the win. JBL laid out Batista in the post-match.

POST SHOW DARK MATCH

- John Cena & Batista defeated Triple H & JBL. After the Smackdown taping ended, Triple H hit the ring for a two-on-one attack, leading to a wild reaction when John Cena's music played. Triple H and JBL worked over Batista for most of the match until he made the hot tag to Cena, which led to an FU on Triple H and Batista Bomb on JBL for the double pin.

Melina will win. Torrie will be fired. :shifty:

Out of curiosity, am I the only one that is excited that Frankie Kazarian is finally debuting even if it is on Velocity? And that he has gone back to "the Future" gimmick instead of the lame "Coolest" gimmick he had in TNA when he left?

Eddie's secret is that he ate Mysterio's box of cheeseburgers.

They're not bringing Animal back, are they? I don't know if thats a good thing or bad.

Simon Dean (errr why not Nova?) beat Mike Kruel? That guy went to the wrestling school I'm going to now. He's actually the heavyweight champ at this point.

Interesting how Mike Bucci is playing two roles at once, sort of. He's Nova and Simon Dean at the same time. Has this ever happened before, aside from Mick Foley playing his three selves at a Royal Rumble?

Well, Road Warrior Animal did give an interview to WWE.COM (http://www.wwe.com/) which you may find interesting:

'Win one for Hawk'
July 22, 2005

BALTIMORE — Less than two years after his partner’s untimely death, Road Warrior Animal hits the ring again looking for tag team glory. With thoughts of his partner heavy on his mind, Animal – with Heidenreich (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/heidenreich/) in his corner – will try to win one for Hawk at The Great American Bash.

Shortly following SmackDown! (http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/), where Animal and Heidenreich were successful in tag-team action, WWE.com caught up with Animal to find out his thoughts on the fans’ support, his upcoming match at The Bash and returning to the ring without Hawk:

WWE.com: What was it like to be back in the ring? Was it a bittersweet feeling to win without Hawk as your partner?
Road Warrior Animal: A lot of people don’t realize that one of the last matches we had before Hawk passed away was a tag-team match in Baltimore. So, here I am again almost two years to the day. Still, it wasn’t a bittersweet moment. I felt the appreciation of the fans, mostly. I felt they were showing me that they still cared about me even though Hawk’s deceased.

I know there will be some skeptics who say, “Aw, man. We miss Hawk. It’s not the same without Hawk.” Well, you know, of course it’s not going to be the same without Hawk. When you’re together for 18 years of your careers, day-in and day-out — 300 days a year — you get to form a bond and an instinct. Hawk and I had a real special bond and instinct that I don’t think can ever be replaced. You can’t ever replace Road Warrior Hawk, but the spirit of the Legion of Doom should live on. And Heidenreich is the first member in 10 years to be officially welcomed into the Legion of Doom. But I think Heidenreich’s got more than enough talent to carry the load. I think he’s a great physical specimen, people are behind him. You also have to remember that Hawk is still with us in spirit. How could we lose when you have Road Warrior Animal, Heidenreich and Hawk in our corner?

WWE.com: You said on SmackDown! that Heidenreich is more like Hawk than you thought. Could you elaborate on that?
Animal: Heidenreich comes at me with this ridiculous poem that means a lot, but to the average guy, it’s a ridiculous poem — especially when I’m preparing for a match. If you remember some of Hawk’s interviews, it’s the same type of the deal. They have such similarities and mannerisms, and they both have great big hearts. They're also very dedicated.

WWE.com: What’s it like having a new tag-team partner after all these years? Do you have to make many adjustments teaming with Heidenreich, as opposed to Hawk?
Animal: My style is my style. I’m 110 miles-per-hour. I’m brute force, all the time. Heidenreich’s going to have to keep up with my style, and I’m going to have to work with him on that. It’s a process that became instinct with me and Hawk. Heidenreich can’t possibly learn in one year what Hawk and I accomplished in 20 years. It’s just one of those deals. But Heidenreich’s a heck of an athlete, coming from the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. You just don’t make it to the top level of a sport like that unless you’re some kind of talent.

Keep in mind that I have a legacy that my partner and I have to protect. And in all the years we did Legion of Doom, Droz was the only guy we even considered letting in until now. Now, it’s 10 years later. So, understand that this is a very selective process. I won’t just let anyone become the next member of Legion of Doom. Nobody can replace Hawk. Can there be a great substitution? Heck yes. Heidenreich can be a phenomenal substitution. But that (tag-team bond) has to be developed.

WWE.com: What was it like to do the Doomsday Device with someone other than Hawk?
Animal: Hawk and I were pure instinct. I could throw a guy up on my shoulders and turn to any corner and know where Hawk was — know how many steps to take — and he’d fly off that top rope and it was over just like that. You can’t expect that same comfort level with Heidenriech immediately, but it will come. If Heidenreich is up on that top rope and he’s ready, I’ll find him.

WWE.com: How well do you two match up against your opponents at The Great American Bash?
Animal: We’ll kill MNM. They’re two good kids, but they can’t match our strength and speed. We’re very powerful guys. Not taking anything away from MNM — they are the WWE Tag Team Champions, after all — but they’re going to be in for a battle on Sunday. It’s not going to be a walk through the park for them, which they seem to think it will be.

WWE.com: On SmackDown, there were fans holding up signs that read, “Win one for Hawk!” How do you feel about that, and is that what this match is about for you?
Animal: Heidenreich and I win every match as a team, but we always win with the spirit of Hawk there with us. It’s really three against two with Hawk’s presence there with us in spirit form. We’ve got our guardian angel in Hawk sitting up on my shoulder pad on one of those spikes. He’s always there for us. Hawk and I — whether we were together or separate — we had a presence with each other.

Before this SmackDown! match, I had goose bumps on my arms, and I knew that was the spirit of Hawk in the room right then because Hawk loved this business. He was a big part of my success, and he just wants to help guide the success of the Legion of Doom no matter who my partner is. I firmly believe that. I firmly believe that if this was switched around and I was gone, my last words to Hawk would be, “Hey man, carry on the legacy. I will be in your corner.”

WWE.com: Have you spoken at all to Hawk’s widow throughout these recent events?
Animal: She actually just called me. I hadn’t talked to her for months, and she just called and left a message saying she’s happy for me. It’s hard for us to talk because I remind her too much of Hawk. Every conversation still ends up in tears. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I want her there at ringside this Sunday. This match at The Great American Bash is dedicated to Hawk. He’s still with us.

P.S.--BTW, does anybody have the official time of the tag match from bell to bell last thursday when Heidenreich and Animal beat those 2 Indy guys with the Doomsday Device? Cuz it was an extremely fast match, i'm guessing :15 to :30 seconds tops, but if anyone has the exact time let me know.
