NEW YORK (AP) -- Time to face the facts: Dave Chappelle's hit Comedy Central series isn't coming back, says one of its stars.
" 'Chappelle's Show' is over, man. Done," comic Charlie Murphy told TV Guide. "It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now, because it's the truth."
Chappelle's sudden "spiritual retreat" to South Africa on the eve of his show's third season has left the series in limbo since May. About half of a new season had been filmed before Chappelle left, Murphy said.
"I'm disappointed it ended the way it did, but I'm not angry with anybody," he said. " 'Chappelle's Show' was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody's attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick."
Comedy Central has always said the door is open for Chappelle to return, spokeswoman Aileen Budow said Wednesday.
Network chief Doug Herzog met with Chappelle on June 3, but that has been their last communication, she said.
Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.
"Now I can go out and do stand-up," he said. "I'm getting movie offers. It's off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever's going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but 'Chappelle's Show' served its purpose and I'll always be grateful."

The show was good, IMO, but I can't blame Chappelle...
You can only go on for so long with people shouting "I'm Rick James, Bitch!" to you every fucking 5 seconds.

Damn, it was a good show. I hate to see it end the way it did, but I guess I expected it. I guess it got too big to quick for Dave and he couldn't handle it. Hope he gets better, and maybe we will see more in the future whenever he gets up to it.
But I also wonder if some of this had to do with the death of Rick James. That was one of his most popular segments.

It's not so much Rick James as much as it is that he was just under too much stress.
So in essence, you're right. It's just too much getting to him.
I bet he just ran out of material.

He wasn't the shows only writer. Also, he was a pretty sucessful stand up comedian before the show, so he isn't one to run out of material.

He didn't seem to like being tightcast, when he'd go out to do standup and the crowds would spout off "I'm Rick James. bitch" it would irriatate him. He walked off stage once over it. Add the fact that Rick James died... well it didn't help his cause. Kinda too bad he was mentally weak/fucked/whatever, because he and his show were funny as shit.

It's usually the shows you want to see that die off quickly, or if it's a show you want to stay on and it does, it usually stays on, runs it's course and STILL stays on the air for 17 years even though at that point, it's like a monkey...a monkey that's past it's prime...
But yeah, reality TV sucks and theres not enough shit that you can just sit back and laugh at now. Thank god for Comedy Central though...

Darknessssssssssssssss...you midnight black, evil mothafucka, black magic!
the best part of the Ric James skits werent even the "fuck yo couch" and the "I'm Rick James bitch!" it was the little things that made that skit, both guy's mannerisms, stuff that was syptomatic of Dave Chappelle's comic flair if you will, and Darkness was incredible not only in the physical comedy (whenever he kicked the shit out of Rick, or got hit, he was fucking priceless) but the way he told the stories was absolutely incredible. It's a damn shame that the only thing faggots remember about it are the stupid catch phrases, and not the nuiances if you will.
Also, the li'l John skit is the devil, not funny at all.

Typecast.
If only his routines were more diverse, maybe he wouldn't have been typecast. He seems to be a victim of his own success, rather than any outside force.

I really don't know much about Carlin, but surely he didn't run out of material after only two years of doing stand up.

Personally, I don't care about this, because I never found his show amusing.
But I do know that an assload of people loved it, so I feel bad for them. I'd imagine that if it was nearly as big as I think it was, he's perfectly justified in being stressed out.

110% agree with this.
This is really bad news considering it was the best show on television (yeah, fuck Family Guy).

I still gotta get the season 2 DVD. I can't believe its not gonna air a 3rd season though, that show was fucking hilarious.
The Black nigger hater was the some of the funniest shit i've have ever seen in my life.
When those necks were gathering around his truck and calling him nigger and he goes " GET THAT NIGGER! TELL THAT NIGGER! " I cried with baby Jesus and the virgin Mary.
The skit in season two where he parody'd the weed smoking info commercial and when he hit the little girl and everyone got out and started running and he grabbed the bike with training wheels ...
