GOLDBERG VS. STEINER; ONE LAST RAW BEFORE THE RUMBLE!
Jan. 19, 2004
Scott Steiner thought he received some good news last week when he found out that he would enter the Royal Rumble and have a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, if he could survive the challenge of 29 other men. The good news, however, ended right there as it came with some bad news for Steiner … he is next. On RAW, Steiner will meet Goldberg, a man who will also enter the Rumble on Jan. 25. Goldberg is determined to win the Rumble and gain a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, and is apparently going to try to use Steiner as an example of how serious he is. Will Goldberg’s path to the Rumble meet a bump in the road from Steiner? Watch RAW to find out.
Also, last week on RAW, Stone Cold Steve Austin and General Manager Eric Bischoff came to an agreement that Austin would not interfere with Bischoff as long as Bischoff followed the rules. Austin said his job is to make sure that Bischoff does his. Does this mean that Bischoff will now have a plan to run RAW as he sees fit despite the presence of Austin? Find out on RAW!
The Road to the Royal Rumble continues as RAW comes to you for the final time before the big event from Green Bay. What other developments for the Rumble will happen? Escape the Rules and find out on RAW at 9/8 CT on Spike TV!

Steiner and Goldberg had an awesome match at Fall Brawl 2000, who wants to bet that this match tonight will not be as good? Anyone? Didn't think so.
That said, this is another example of good booking going into the Rumble. I assume Test will be in the Rumble, so much like with BT and Kane, this will give Goldberg a fued that the fans are familiar with to deal with in the Rumble.
The build for HBK-HHH has been really good, hopefully they continue that.
We should also get some more stuff with Orton, and if they're smart they will announce that Foley will be at the Rumble (if he actually is going to make an apprearance) instead of going with the suprise approach which does nothing for business, as has been proven this past month.

I'm looking foward to Steiner vs. Goldberg something about two brawlers going at it always makes me eager to watch an event, I don't really know why. Hopefully tonight they will finally turn Jericho all the way face (rather then just hinting at it) so Jericho when Jericho wins the Rumble the fans will actually cheer his victory rather then having a smatering of boos. Also I'll bet dollars to donuts that there will be a match tonight where the winner gets to be the 30th entrant in the Royal Rumble.
I'm betting that the main event will be crap. As has been before I hope Orton and RVD do some promos, and Jericho makes a full-fledged face turn so fans aren't left to wonder whether to cheer or boo the tweener at the Rumble.

Okay, so the RAW superstars that have already been announced for the Rumble are: Kane, Booker T, Goldberg, Scott Steiner, Christian, Chris Jericho, Mark Henry, and Rico.
Who wants to hazard a guess at the last seven (keep in mind, HBK, HHH, the Dudleys, Flair, and Batista already have matches, plus Tommy Dreamer isn't in it, since Rico beat him to qualify)?
How about...rep points all around for whoever gets all seven.
For my part, I'm going with Rob Van Dam, Test, Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, Lance Storm, Val Venis, and Steven Richards.
moshingfreak
01-19-2004, 08:49 PM
Test, Steven Richards, Rob Conway, Rene Dupree, Matt Hardy, The Hurricane, Rosey.
Theres my 7
Mr. JL
01-19-2004, 08:57 PM
Do you think the Goldberg-Steiner match is going to resemble the match between Booker & Buff? Or do you think fans have got the WCW taste out of their mouths?
RVD, Randy Orton, Test, Matt Hardy, Spike Dudley, Val Venis, Lance Storm.

I've got pretty high hopes for Raw tonight despite the Steiner/Goldberg match. I don't really care much for either of them, it's matches like this that make me miss monday night football.
My last 7 entrants guess would be
Test, Orton, RVD, Richards, Hurrican, Hardy, Maven
Unless Maven really is seriously hurt (not sure if it's been confirmed). If Maven is hurt then I'll take Rosey.

The last 7 are RVD, Randy Orton, Test, Hurricane, Rob Conway, Matt Hardy, and Spike.
We were all wrong. :(
Heh. Anyone catch the "BORING!" sign?
Loose Cannon

Conway..Thats who it was.
RVD and Booker T against Christian and Matt Hardy first.
No Jericho, that makes for a better chance at his face turn. :D
My last 7 entrants guess would be
Test, Orton, RVD, Richards, Hurrican, Hardy, Maven

I dug this up, it's a list of entrants from 88 to 01. Most of the 30's seem to be heels, but some could've been faces. Undertaker, Savage, Crush, and Rikishi could've been. I can't remember well enough what their gimmicks were during that point in time.

Decent Raw... Little disappointed with the end.
On the bright side... winning the number 30 position more than likely means that Goldberg will NOT be winning the Rumble. If memory serves me correctly a number 30 entrant never has.
Raw did it's job tonight... it hyped the Royal Rumble. If Taker and Foley both return, a decent guy wins the Rumble, and HBK wins the world Title I'll be extremely pleased. Not to mention Eddie vs Chavo.

Good show tonight.
I liked how they played up the importance of the Rumble and of course the #30 spot.
As for Goldberg winning, well that was pretty smart. The crowd loved him tonight, so he looks strong going into the Rumble. Of course now it seals his fate that he wont win the match, but if they ask I can send them an e-mail on how to keep Goldy strong and sell his match against Lesnar for Mania, and at the same time have Benoit win the match.
I loved how they booked Orton tonight, they're really trying to make him look like a top guy, and he's showing more skills every week. People may complain about Hurricane getting burried, but guess what? Thats what has to happen if you want to make new stars. I liked that Orton just basically squashed Hurricane, because to have him go 50-50 with Helms for 7 minutes would do nothing for Orton's push. Finally some sanity in the booking.
Austin's spot was smart as well. They had to tell the fans that Foley will be at the Rumble in order to help the buyrate. I'm not sure they went far enough, but at least the idea was dropped in the fans' minds. I would expect Foley will do a run in and cost Randy the Rumble match.
JEricho-Christian-Trish stuff was really good tonight.
"My stank smells good", thats some funny stuff.
Lita-Jazz was weak, and I was sad there was no Teddy Long promos.
Its nice that the World Champ is too busy to show up on TV to promote his main event match on the 2nd biggest show of the year.
That said, the video piece on their history was well done, although they left out the part where HBK won the title from him, and then HHH got it back a month later in a terrible match. Guess that never happened.
As for Taker returning at the Rumble, I dont think it will happen. As many people here have mentioned, they should do something indicating the old Deadman Taker will return. Basically have Kane in the ring being dominant, then we hear some bells toll, maybe the purple light some lthunder noices, and Taker's old music should be good enough. That would freak out Kane, and cause him to be eliminated maybe even by Spike.
has number 30 ever win the rumble?

The worst part about Raw was all the FFX2... If I hear that song one more time, I swear to god I'm going to buy a copy just so I can burn it!
And when I say burn, I don't mean I'm going to take all the info from the game disk and put it on a blank CDR so I can enjoy it while costing Square Enix money.
I mean light the damn thing on fire.

That promo between Molly and Trish, did they cut that off? It didn't make no sense at all.
And what wsa the sense of having Spike win if he didn't end up going to the tournament? That was lousy.
Other than that, good RAW. Those FFX2 commercials need to die.

I'm not totally sure what to think of Raw last night. On the one hand, Hurricane looked credible (Even though he lost), there were some great matches, and Rico planting a kiss on Baldy was HILARIOUS, there's the disappointment of Goldberg being #30, the afforementioned "Spike Wins only to not compete" angle, and other crap.
Oh yeah, the Christian/Trish thing was hilarious. Way to drive a wedge between them.

They probably didn't want kane in it.....also they only showed 25 people in the RR promo so 5 more people can enter.

So Spike will be too injured to wrestle in the Royal Rumble so he gives his spot to Mic Foley who just so happens to eliminate Randy Orton and then goes on to eliminate himself. Then Eric Bishoff fires Spike for giving his spot to Foley so that Spike can got to Smackdown and join the cruiserweight division which is what rumors say will happen.

I enjoyed RAW this week. I see that Jericho did not start the show as a complete face as he tried to use his Survivor Series favor to be #30 in the Rumble.
And all the Austin Haters don't have much to complain about this week as he was barely on the screen 10 minutes, if that.
I was shocked to see Kane get DQ'd when Spike shoved the ref. But somehow I'm not expecting Spike to be in the match. Coach had said if there was interference, the competitior would lose his shot in the Rumble, so I was fully expecting Bubba and DVon to interfere and help Spike, but they only interfered when Flair and Batista were in the ring.
Also kind of surprised to see no HHH or HBK to hype their match on the final show, but their segment last week was great to add to the buildup anyways.

All that works for me
Foley can eliminate Orton with a cactus clothsline
