Gene and Masters have really improved in my eyes if there was a European championship I'd put it on one of them.

JBL when he first went to the JBL gimmick. If I am correct, everyone did.

now we love him , and he carried smackDOWN! this winter. Nobody in their wildest dreams would have said that last year when he won the title.

JBL sucks.
To answer the question, my response would have to be Viscera. As Mabel he did nothing for me.

Shawn Michaels.
as the heartbreak kid (early 90's), i used to despise him. - now, i really enjoy his work

I've spoken highly of JBL for his mic skills since the gimmick was born. And equally willing to pan his ring skills...
Let's see...
Kane: Never liked him early on. Oh look, a bland mirror undertaker. Talking unmasked serial killer Kane rocks.
The Hurricane: Thought this gimmick was so stupid. Now I enjoy it.
Heidenreich: The guy's gold. Unintentionally funny gold, but isn't that why Snitsky's still around?
Triple H: In hopes that Vince'll fire him to screw the Smarks.
Jeff Hardy: Because Shadow's got a gun to my head.

Eugene and Hassan: I wasn't too sure about their gimmicks at first, but then I grew to love them, mainly as wrestlers, not really gimmick-wise.

I cringed when I first saw Eugene, but then his character and work in the ring (straddling La Resistance and riding them like a horsey - ) won me over. Unfortunately, it's gone a bit full circle recently and I'm going off him again.
I suppose Christian would be the other one. In E & C, he was always the sidekick of the group, but now he's a badass mo fo.

I used to think Carlito was pretty crap in the ring, but lately I've been much more impressed with him, and he's now my favourite RAW guy at the moment.

Not to blow my own horn, but I've always supported Carlito. His promos were hilarious and when he debuted and defeated Cena for the US championship I almost wet myself. This was an entertaining wrestler who could talk on the mic and was going somewhere.
I swear I was the only guy cheering for him in the entire MEN arena when Smackdown came over last October. It was only his second week and I feel priviledged that I got to see his first televised defence of his title. :D

Yeah, I've always loved Carlito's promo's, he's a really entertaining guy on the mic, I just found his wrestling a bit, you know, at first. But I find it a lot better now.

The Rock.
When I started really watching wrestling, Kevin Kelly was there, and the first interview I saw, Rock kept interrupting and calling him a hermaphrodite. In fact, the Rock was interrupting everyone and basically just being a dick. I could not fathom how he'd obtained a fanbase. I never really got used to it; I just noticed that the guys he fought were bigger dicks than he.
Same with Austin. I was like...Why are you cheering this guy? If you walk up and say, "Hey, Steve, good match Monday," he'd give you a stunner.

Rey Mysterio.
When he first came to the WWE I hated him, I dunno why, I just did.
But I sat down and watched him and I like him now, but that storyline he's in with Eddie, that really sucks.

When DDP's motivational speaker gimmick first aired, I was like :wtf: but then I realised how much fun could be had with it. Strange how gimmicks which you think are going to suck end up being your favourite. Hope is not lost for CM Punk.

Edge
a month ago I absolutely despised him, but after that promo on RAW that he cut on Hardy I started to change my opinion a bit. Then I realized that Matt Hardy sucks and is followed by a bunch of marks.
He also thinks he's the second coming of Jesus

Edge is completely the opposite for me. Since E & C, all he's done is either smile (as a face) or growl (as a heel). He's limited in the ring and is a proven asshole out of it.

Hei-den-HEIDENREICH. Hei-den-HEIDENREICH. He's a crappy wrestler, but he has really grown on me. I actually don't mind him carrying the tag belts for a while. The guy's got great promo skills. The feud with MNM brought out some pretty funny moments.
Hassan. OK, I don't agree with a lot of the Hassan apologists on the board here. In fact, I wasn't much a fan of Hassan before he came to Smackdown. Then came the terrorist angle. Tacky, yes. But it was one of the few wrestling film clips that I downloaded and my brother and I enjoyed. (Of course, most of the time, we were just laughing about how "wrong" the whole thing was.) The reason I don't agree with the apologists: while a lot are claiming that Hassan wasn't a terrorist and was never meant to be a terrorist, I lean toward the line of thinking that the WWE was headed toward the path that Hassan WAS a terrorist. So of course I was far more intrigued to see how that angle would unfold, maybe more for the "Can't keep my eyes off a train wreck" sort of aspect.
Kurt Angle. I didn't even think of this until someone brought it up a few lines up. I really didn't think much of Angle about four or five years ago. I thought he was bland and he would never be able to match the top three trinity of Rock-Stone Cold-HHH. I'm more interested in the "entertainment" than the "sport" part of wrestling myself. Now with his bald look and his incredible real life commitment to wrestling (sometimes to a point of life-threatening risk like in WM19), I have more respect for Kurt Angle than anyone else in the ring... except maybe for Eddie Guerrero. And even there it's a toss up. Stick him in the crappiest angles, but Kurt is still the man.

I'm the same way. Edge has been boring. Except the last couple of weeks. All he needed to do was stop acting and start tapping into that wrestling-business hatred of the internet and everyone who doesn't immediately hop on his jock for sub-par ring work.

The one prime example for me personally was Bret Hart. I was a huge British Bulldogs fan as a kid, so I couldn't stand him as a tag wrestler, and it took me a while to warm up to him once he turned face and went solo. I finally came around after his match with Piper for the IC belt.
And seriously, to anybody who says Masters is "growing on you:" What exactly is winning you over? The god-awful matches or the incredibly dull promos? Is it just that you are enjoying the peace and quiet of a completely dead audience right in the middle of Raw...sort of a lull in the chaos to collect your thoughts? Tell me, what is it about Masters is winning you over? Because if I understand what you all are seeing, maybe I can understand why Masters just went over Shelton Benjamin. Maybe.

Kurt Angle. When he first showed up and did everything a WWE Superstar could possibly do within one year, I was pissed. This newcomer just did what Benoit and Jericho had taken years to achieve.
Then Benoit and Jericho took the (ahem) Eurocontinental Title from him and I marked out big time.
Nowadays I still can't stand Angle's character, but I sure as hell respect his talent.

Viscera. When he was first in the WWE, I just always thought of him as a slow and boring jobber. Nowadays, he has a bit more interest about his in-ring work and his gimmick.
Christian. Just after he broke off from E & C, I could never get into him because I just saw him as a guy who didn't have anything specific about him that stood out. He didn't show much mic work and didn't display a distinct wrestling style. But I now think he is excellent since he got the "Charisma" thing rolling
