View Full Version : If Christian's push wasn't already shoved away...

Many WWE fans have reported they have been unable to purchase Christian's "Captain Charisma" T-shirt at Smackdown tapings or houseshows. WWE Shopzone is also not currently carrying it. This follows rumors that Christian has become increasingly unhappy since June, when his apparent main event run was cut off before it even got started. There are also no plans at this time for Christian to have a match at Summerslam this Sunday.

Here's a guy, who's obviously over with the fans (even the smarks and the bizarro fans from canada), who's cheered every week, who's merchandise is in hot demand and who has got talent...
...and the WWE isn't pushing him!
Proof that Vince and co. do not listen to their fanbase. So don't give me all that crap about them listening to the fans when Matt Hardy was released etc etc (as we don't know how much of that was a work anyway) because this is bullshit! Christian is the future of the business for a lot of people, and this is a massive slap in the face to them!

WWE has a collectible card game called "Raw Deal". A set of cards for Christian is going to be released in early October, and he was to be referred to as Captain Charisma. Well, WWE has now told Comic Images (the makers of the game) that he now has to be referred to as CLB and if you check Shopzone, all Captain Charisma merchandise has been removed. It's kind of weird considering how over he is, to suddenly pull his merchandise. Captain Charisma's cards were the most anticipated cards of the new Raw Deal set entitled: Unforgiven. In a poll to determine which order the cards would be spoiled on the Official Yahoo Group of over 3000 members, Captain Charisma beat Batista, Immortal Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and a few others.
got this tidbit from PWInsider. I'm seriously scratching my head here, trying to figure out what the deal is. Unless, of course, it's some kind of Triple H/Kliq thing, where they're punishing Christian because Jericho is taking a 'leave' after SummerSlam.

So he's not going to be called Captain Charisma anymore? Why? That's just dumb!

I happen to be wearing the Captain Charisma shirt I bought at Raw taping in Birmigham, UK. It was the most expesive one, and seemed to be in the most demand ot each merchadise location. Christian was MEGA over with the UK crowd.

Anyway, who here noticed on Smackdown last night that Tazz tried to act like Canadia was the only place CC got pops? Called it Bizarro world, the only place that fans loved Christian.
Granted, they'd pop for Hitler if he was Canadian, but Christian's over in the states as well.

It's kinda a pattern with the WWE. If a heel is getting over without creative actually trying to put them over, they have to be burried. We've seen it many times before. Anyone remember the WWE telling Dupree to quit doing the French Tickler because he was getting a face pop?
Chavo Classic
08-19-2005, 11:51 AM
Shame thats the only thing in Dupree's entire gimmick/arsenal which actually got a response.
Fair play too. If Dupree is meant to be a face, then he shouldn't be doing stuff which would would get him over. Christian on the other hand, is just being himself and doing what they've asked of him. It's not his fault that his gimmick and his charisma is actually so good that it's getting him over.
Honestly, 5 years ago, the heel Rock started receiving the same type of response. I don't recall the WWE taking his 'Can You Smell What the Rock is Cooking' merchandise or catchphrases (or anything else for that matter) off him. He was allowed to evolve and allowed to become what the fans wanted.
Unfortunately, it seems Christian has not be given the same freedom. WWE does not listen to what its fans want - simple

2001
1. Hardy Boyz: When they were mega over and feuding with Austin and Triple H. Jeff Hardy even beat Triple H for the Intercontinental Championship, only to job it back six days later. Instead of pushing a fresh feud, and building up the Hardy Boyz to the top of the card the WWE decide to give the push to BikerTaker and Kane. It was the begining of the end for the Hardy Boyz, in my opinion.
2. Kane: The one positive to pushing BikerTaker and Kane into feuding with Austin and Triple H was that it gave Kane some credibility. Kane beat Triple H for the Intercontinental Championship and was on a role with the fans. Only, for it to be destroyed when Kane jobbed the Intercontinental title to Prince Albert, a month later Kane is tag teaming with Spike Dudley.
3. Kurt Angle: They actually pushed Kurt Angle and built up his feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin well but they never fully capitalized on Angle's popularity. Instead of running with Kurt Angle being the top guy, they turned him face then heel then face then heel and people stopped caring.
4. Rob Van Dam: Man, the WWE really fucked up here. I do not know how you fuck this up. If they would have only given RVD a one on one match with Stone Cold Steve Austin for the title and have RVD go over they could have made a lot of money. RVD was as over as the Rock or Stone Cold at the time.
2002
Chris Jericho: He was the Undisputed WWF Champion, then he jobbed to Triple H. Instead of their feud being about the title or a grudge between Jericho and Triple H, they turned it into a feud about Stephanie and Hunter. It is also noteworthy, that Jericho never had a match following his Wrestle Mania main event loss to Triple H. He then jobbed again to HHH in Hell in a Cell at Judgemtn Day, and at the next PPV Chris Jericho was jobbing John Cena. Please note that John Cena had only been on the roster for a month, not too mention he did not even have his wigger gimmick or popularity. This was back in 2002, so any logical person when they think about it, should know that there is no chance in hell that Jericho is going to defeat John Cena this Sunday, in 2005, when John Cena is the most popular guy on the roster.
Kane: Again, Kane shows up on the list of guys who could have made a splash but did not really end up doing much of anything. He was mega over when he returned from his injury but then he jobbed to Triple H. Losing most of his credibility, Again.
Rob Van Dam: Once again RVD shows up on this list. RVD was starting to push the envelope and started getting half way there to regaining his 2001 popularity. His match with Jericho at KOTR, and feud with Brock Lesnar made it look like RVD was the only one who could beat Brock. Jobbing to Triple H, being left off the Armageddon 2002 PPV, and not having another singles match on PPV until Armageddon of 2003 really hurt him, he's still mega popular though.
2003
Chris Benoit: He had his match with Kurt Angle in January at the Royal Rumble was the match of the year. Then he was just stuck in tag teams and feuds with hosses for 10 months.
Booker T: He was not mega over but he was over enough with the crowd. I doubt his ability to draw BIG but he could have made the product HOT and entertaining but instead he jobbed to Triple H at Wrestle Mania.
Goldberg: Within weeks of his WWE debut Goldberg was cutting long promos, wearing Goldust's wig, and laughing it up with all the babyfaces in the locker room. A recipe for disaster.
Kane: For the third time Kane makes the list of superstars who could have become majorly popular. When he lost his mask and was detroying wrestlers everywhere and blading each night he actually looked like a MONSTER. Then, as you all know the long drawn out feud with the bosses son killed most of that.
2004
Randy Orton: So, over with the crowd. The Intercontinental, Heel, Legend Killer gimmick made him the standout of every RAW episode. They fucked that up by having him lose the Intercontinental title, turning him face, and going against his Legend Killer gimmick, all within a month. He was World Heavyweight Champion for a month, until he jobbed to Triple H.
Alright, I know most of you already know all this but I like to beat a horse until it is beyond dead. :D And I am sure there are a few others wrestlers in there that I have forgotten (like Guerrero) but the WWE has a major history of NOT pushing the stars who are getting the loudest cheers or jeers. I would even say that I think Christian is more over than RVD was in 2001. Christian could be the man if given a chance.
But unfortunately Christian is just another victim on the list.

Totally with ya there dude. Cept you left out Jeff Hardy's 2002 almost could've maybe made a splash. That, more than anything, was a mistake when they just dropped him from the limelight after that RAW. And Jeff was getting cheers as well.

The WWE are idiots if they think they can keep down Christian. I personally think they are going to turn him face, and have him go over The Mexicools, but the merchandise situation makes me have doubts. What do they have to gain by pulling it off the market? Seriously?
The guy is OVER. He is over HUGE. It would be a huge mistake not to capitalise on this. The guy could single-handedly make SmackDown! a top show again, but the WWE won't let him. His segment on SD! this week made me mark out for the first time in a long time, and I think face Christian would be something extremely refreshing. Everytime the guy kicks a heels ass, or looks like he's about to, I get really excited. Did anyone else feel that when he grabbed Juvi, I think it was, around the throat?
I personally hope people chant "We Want Christian" at Summerslam SmackDown! and even RAW just to fuck over the WWE.

He's coming back this December.
As "Winter Solstice."
Anyway, there's not much we can do. If the WWE are hell-bent on squashing success, they will do it. Be thankful, however, that they aren't listening to the fans. Orton's face turn? Cena's? Batista on the mic? Train Wrecks. BEing a fan fave and pushed is almost as bad as being a fan fave and being buried.
If their politicking and insistance on mediocrity bothers you that much, send them a message. Either write/e-mail them, and get ignored, or stop rewarding them for subpar shows. Or keep watching and remember that you're helping them get away with squashing the fan favorites.
After all, we know they won't respond to fan reaction, to direct feedback, and to the web. What other recourse is there? Watch it, knowing you're part of the problem, or don't, and deprive yourself of the horrors of Christian demoted to Velocity in a month.
Either way, I'll be sitting here enjoying the program, or I'll have turned it off for something else.
Either way, Captain Charisma is gone, and the fans are fucked. Complain all you want, it's not gonna change a thi-ing...

So maybe Christian will only get partially booked horribly?
I'm actually hoping they fuck this angle up worse. IT's like a train wreck. Sort of a guilty pleasure, like enjoying Heidenreich, knowing full well that he's not only shit, but currently pissing on the LOD's legacy. Or my over-the-hill drinking game, where me and Bill pick a washed up rassler, and every time he screws the pooch, it's down the hatch. OR the fucking catfights...They're so horrible that they're AWESOME.
Maybe Edge can swerve Lita, by revealing that he'd only nailed the slut on a bet with Matt.
Or Lita can attack Matt, turn on Edge, and bail out Kane in a gesture of reconcilitation.
Or Edge loses to a Schoolboy after the Titantron shows Lita in bed with the Hulkster...Thanks to the return of GTV.
Or Austin can return, stun everyone, and the feud will be resolved on Heat.

I'm drunk so give e me some lee way here. I don't even watch WWE programming anymore except for Christians segments. ANytime I actually tried to watch a full RAW show, all I saw was a bunch of chicks surrounding the Coach and immediately turned the channel. Christian was awesome. Then he went tto Smack Down and the WWE Do not seem to know what the fuck to do to him besides have him look inferior.
The fact that they pulled the Captain Charisma shirts is just crazy. I mean, hypothetically speaking even if they not sell why would you just pull them from the market completely? Would you not, as a business man, begin to make a sale pitch or incentive for fans to buy the shirt.
Something like, since they are so high and mighty on Triple H, and if he is SO VERY OVER why not try having a buy a Triple H shirt and get a Captain Charisma shirt free. At least then you are not stuck with a room full of Captain Charisma shirts.
