View Full Version : Roid Rumor...

Ok, FoxSports radio had a "rumor" that MLB was getting ready to suspend Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon for failing drug tests, just like Palmeiro they've known for awhile and the players are also aware and are appealing before an announcment is made.

Fox Sports Radio said it was a "rumor from reliable sources" and a few local stations picked it up, off their report.

I never believe these things, but last "rumor" was Palmeiro.

Mentioned it to someone and he said "Clemens, sure, but no Damon". See, I'm the opposite, Clemens has always been a big guy, gotten bigger slowly over the years and not much bigger, Damon, dunno... I could see him more then Clemens.

Anyone else hear any of this?

I actually heard about this on GameFAQS of all places.

Apparently Scot Cocherane tested positive last fall too but then it was discovered that the urine was that of an old woman, and in his next test he was alright.

yeah, guess it hit the local news here tonight, where it hasn't been confirmed eveyones is afraid to run with it. Which is fair, shouldn't push a story like that w/o facts.

I did hear that a rumor that Damon has an appeal wanting to know what the substance was, because he feels someone spiked his drink or something. Palmerio rumor was claimed the same thing, but now it comes out at the MLB appel hearing he said nothing.

I dunno, I'd like to see the 1/2 season, full season, life-time. suspesion if they really want to enforce it, because as has been pointed out, test, fail, sit out a few weeks, no re-test, so no way to know you're clean when you return.

You know ESPN dont wanna run this rumor. After all the GOAT praise they've giving Clemens.

I hope it isnt true. As a fan , I hope there is someone running around setting these guys up. I hope.

They wait 3 months before announcing the names of players found on roids. I think the more people that are found out.. "Bigger stars" will help people forgive them collectively.

Clemens is a funny one because when I met (or rather stood in front of) him, he isn't anywhere near as built/fat as he looks on TV. I was quite shocked (especially as I hadn't realised he was stood behind me) cos he always looked quite fat.

Andy Pettite has the hugest lips ever.

One might say "Horse Lips" :D

Dunno how long ago you saw Clemens, I haven't seen him upclose in a few years, but he was always a big guy, not david wells fat or barry bonds built, but a combo, so he was just a big guy.

I wonder if during the 3 months they keep re-testing, also how fair is a policy that allows a player who tested positive to keep playing while on the stuff?

It was 3 years ago when he was with the Yankees. I'm not saying that he wasn't built but that he looked a lot slimmer than he does on TV.

I'll tell you who has 'filled out' and that Andruw Jones. The testers maybe need to pop down to Atlanta. Looks like he's been on the Barry Bonds diet.

I was back in Toronto this summer and we went and saw the Sox vs Jays. We were in left field and Mrs Moonax was worried that Manny was stoned because 'he wanders around aimlessly and spends most of his time staring into his glove.'

It is pretty shocking that a player can fail a test in spring training and not be banned until August.

I think that as with almost every sport if you believe that the athletes are clean then you are delusional. The rariety is the undoped athlete not the doper.

I would be pretty surprised if this information leaked. Not saying it didn't happen, but it seems like something they wouldn't let out easily.

I think we need to be less hypocritical about steroid use in sports. Either it's bad or it's good. no more lust for these high scoring games and home run races, while we shame the people for doing what it takes to accomplish it.

I guess you can never tell for sure but its sort of like a witch hunt though, just throwing around all these names. The Union doesn't want these stricter tests, if Selig wasn't an idiot he would jump all over this. This is probably one of the only times where he will have the power over the Union. If the Union keeps putting up a fight, and Selig gets more attention on it it will shed a bad light over the Union. Making it seem like they think steriods are okay in baseball. Then they would have to accept the stricter testing/penalties.

Palmerio stuff leaked before MLB announced it. Plus other details that MLB never released.

There is always some average or low paid employee with access to key info and a reporter more then happy to slip them a week or a few weeks pay.

As much of a Jays fan as I am, I've always felt Vernon Wells bulked up a lot for the time he was trying to make the team 4-5 years ago to when he had his break out year 3 years ago. From a skinny kid to what you see now. Hope not, but geeeze.

Of course he's going to get accused of steroids because he's having a career year in home runs. I'm sure Moonax has also noticed that Andruw has changed his batting stance and is much more controlled and his head is still now, right Moonax?

The Outlaw

Yeah Andruw has done a good job of going the other way when he gets balls on the outer part of the plate this year instead of trying to pull everything. Like you said he's adjusted his stance and keeping his head still, and it's paying off for him. Seems like he just explodes when Chipper isn't in the lineup. :(

People said the same thing about Bonds when he started to hit all the HR's

"Oh its the ball parks...

"Expansion has diluted the pitching...

"It's the strike zone...

No my dear, its the fact he's dosed up to the eyeballs on more drugs than Keith Richards.

Andruw is calmer in the batting box. Less movement. Maybe he's taking beta blockers. :shifty:

Talking about Andruw Jones. Everyone knows Bonds is on roids.

Moonax
09-13-2005, 06:14 PM
So what's the problem? You can claim that the improvement in Jones's performance is down to 'keeping his head still' but frankly I think you are deluding yourself. Do you seriously believe that Palmerio was a 'one off'?

I suspect that Canesco probably under-estimated the number of junkies in baseball.

Late breaking news, Rafael Belliard was on steroids while he played, as was Otis Nixon, and Tony Gwynn!
