Bret Hart has said that he decided to do the WWE DVD to preserve his legacy. As hinted by Ultimate Warrior in previously reported news, the thinking was that if Hart didn't do it, WWE would use the DVD to trash Hart. Lawler, Hogan, Michaels and possibly others had recorded interviews that said negative things about Hart. Benoit was one of the only interviewees that didn't say one negative thing about Hart. As part of his deal, Hart has veto power over DVD content, and will also help choose matches, and make sure the emphasis isn't on Montreal and Owen's death, although they'll be addressed. Possible matches, clips and angles that are being considered (the list will be finalized soon) are:

-- Clips of Hart in Stampede
-- Hart vs. Tiger Mask in New Japan from 1982
-- Hart Foundation skits
-- Team Canada skits from 1997
-- Hart vs. Davey Boy Smith at Wembley Stadium in 1992
-- Hart vs. Austin at Wrestlemania 1997
-- Hart vs. Michaels at Wrestlemania 1996
-- Hart vs. Henning at Summerslam 1991
-- Hart vs. Benoit in WCW 1999
-- Hart vs. Steamboat in Boston, 1986
-- Hart vs. Savage at Saturday Night's Main Event, 1987
-- Hart vs. DiBiase at a house show in Odessa, TX, 1989
-- Hart vs. Andre in Milan in 1989
-- Hart Foundation vs. The Rockers at Saturday Night's Main Event in 1990
-- Hart Foundation vs. Road Warriors in 1991
-- Hart vs. Ric Flair for the WWF Title in October 1992
-- Hart vs. Yokozuna at Mania 1993
-- Hart vs. Bigelow in Barcelona 1993
-- Hart vs. Owen at Mania 1994
-- Hart vs. Yokozuna at Mania 1994
-- Hart vs. Waltman from July 1, 1994 RAW
-- Hart vs. Owen in White Plains from September 29, 1994 (his favorite match vs. his brother)
-- Hart vs. Hakushi from RAW July 24, 1995 RAW
-- Hart vs. Isaac Yankem from Summerslam 1995
-- Hart vs. Smith PPV match from 1995
-- Hart Foundation vs. Team USA from Canadian Stampede 1997
-- Hart vs. Undertaker in the UK on PPV in 1997
-- Hart vs. Goldberg at Starrcade 1999

- Bret has no further plans to work with WWE after the DVD, although a Hall of Fame induction is possible. TNA had contacted Bret and Neidhart, thinking a Hart Foundation reunion would be good for the Spike TV debut.

- DVD interview highlights included Vince saying he regretted what happened, but not taking full blame, talking about the time and circumstances being involved. Also, the WWE production people didn't want Hart using insider wrestling terminology or calling the company WWF due to legal reasons and to protect the business.

Pretty hot line up.

Who wants to be the first to make a joke about Bret having creative contol over the DVD?

So they'll discuss a screwjob ending, but they don't want him using insider terminology. Yeah, protect the business by talking about how everyone promised Bret the match would go one way, including his opponent, and then it goes another way.

I would have thrown in his KOTR match with Bam Bam and his In Your House win against Jean Pierre Lafife (or whatever his name was!) I'd buy it if it was 72 matches against King Kong Bundy though

Canadian Stampede
WM 10 vs. Owen
Summerslam vs. Owen
WM 13 vs. Austin

is on there, I'm happy.

Jean Pierre Lafitte. Didn't he have a senton legdrop (like the Harlem Hangover) called the Cannonball?

Bret said yesterday that he saw the original DVD and it was nothing but HBK, Hogan, Lawler, Vince, HHH and others taking shots at him. He said he was cheap heat and he's glad he got that shit taken out. Bret said they were still working on the DVD and he's trying hard to get him vs Steamboat on there.

Bret had an awesome series of one on one matches with Dynamite during the Bulldogs/Foundation feud. A couple aired on the old PrimeTime show. I was hoping one would ge ton there...but otherwise

The cannonball was like a Swanton Bomb with less hangtime. Not a legdrop.

Ah, so it was just a straight up senton splash, then?

Still, that would be pretty devastating since he was a huge guy.

So Bret gets creative control over the DVD and instead of keeping the parts with other wrestlers of Bret's era (for want of a better term) and wrestlers of today speaking their mind and saying what they really think of Bret he has it all that taken out. But makes sure to keep the commentary of people singing his praises.

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaah....... oooooooook.... I wouldn't of thought it possible but I'm losing even more respect for Bret.

yea cause Hogan, HBK, HHH and Lawler comments about Bret Hart being a jelous ego maniac and Bret not being one of the boys (that's what Bret said they were saying on the DVD) is really truthful there. Funny how those guys were the ones saying it too.

I would of loved to see Hogan and HBK wrestle guys like Hakushi, Issac Yankem, Doink The Clown and Pierre when they had the belt. You Know?

Oh and I was going to post this in the Fan Fest thread when I was reviewing the Bret Hart Q & A but did you know that right before Survivor Series, Bret went to Shawn and said "even though we've had our differences, I'm here to do business and I'm more then willing to put you over and drop the belt to you at the PPV." You know what HBK came right back with. "That's great, but I'm not willing to do the same for you."

Yea, that's wonderful and that's when Bret went to Vince and said Fuck Shawn

For the most part, they're not really speaking THEIR minds on it - and those who are are giving their own, are making comments made out of jealousy of the guy.

Vince's comments don't mean shit. I don't even need to elaborate.

Shawn Michaels' comments come from many years of jealousy against Hart, and for being such a dumb prick that he can't be professional about anything except fucking people over.

HHH is just like Shawn Michaels, and he would say whatever Shari Lewis McMahon tells him to say. Whatever Daddy ATM feels, is exactly what HHH will feel. Of course he wouldn't like Hart, as Hart is far better than he could ever dream of being. Everyone knocks Hogan, but this guy takes the cake.

And Jerry Lawler. One of the biggest pieces of crap in the business. This guy should be thankful that Hart was even willing enough to get in the ring and carry his old ass around. Lawler will say whatever he's paid to say. I won't even get started on this guy and all the shit he's done wrong.

After all these years, they still feel the need to hold Hart down. I never understood that. The guy did everything he could to better himself and his family money-wise. He knew that Vince would of never honored the 20 year deal, so he took off for better pay. Who wouldn't do that?

I find it funny that they have HHH, Hogan, & Lawler bashing him on his own DVD. Would they ever do that for Hogan? Did they do that for Flair? HELL FUCKING NO. Vince is still a scumbag. You know everything they said is exactly what he told them.

I for one hope he gets 100% control of this set. He wants to be remembered for what he did in the ring, not for what people said about him along the way. He got fucked in the WWF, he got fucked in WCW (vs Goldberg ended his career), and this time around he has the chance to end it on his note.

Why won't they just let him have atleast that much?

Are you some sort of fucking mug? Why the hell would Bret Hart's fans want to buy a DVD promoting his career and their memories of him and then have people burying him? It's a BRET HART DVD. Not a WWE comp. Not a opinion of Hogan and Michaels DVD.

I would use this time to reiterate my feelings on Shawn Micheals "Christianity," but what's the point?

Jerry Lawler's career was made on being the top dog in a promotion he OWNED and for feuding with a stand-up comedian. There's a reason why three or four people took a dump in his crown.

Triple H, well, he always takes jabs at people who were better draws than him, Bret is one of them.

Vince. Think about who I'm talking about...

That's honestly some pretty fucked up shit. They basically held Bret's legacy as "hostage". Sure, many of his true fans wouldn't give a flying fuck what was said on the DVD, but just the thought of anyone buying into the garbage coming from the mouths of those guys (who I actually like, mind you, for the most part) was basically what they used to get Bret to work with them. Incredible...but that's what happens when there's only one major wrestling promotion. The WWE has all the time and resources in the world to do DVDs and blast guys that haven't worked for them in damn near a decade when they don't have another promotion breathing down their neck.

Anyway, my opinion on the matches.

Really excited to see they put some rare matches on there. The Steamboat, Andre, Owen, Dibiase ones should be great. Never seen them before. I've seen all his WWF stuff on TV, but I can watch those like 100 times and never be bored. I wish they put some more tag stuff on there, but it's all good. Bulldogs/Harts should of been on there though.

And I'm praying we get his heel speech from '97 on there cause I don't have the whole thing on video.

I dont recall bret being too outspoken when the rockers beat the HF for the tag titles and then just had it taken away for them for no reason other than they finally agreed to a new contract with niedhart or bret or both (however that had played out)

If he did, then I apologize, but I dont recall reading anywhere that Bret was against that move.

Loose Cannon
08-23-2005, 03:49 PM
No, the story is that The Rockers were suppossed to win the Titles, but never did because of the top rope. During the match, the top rope broke off and the ref didn't stop it. Bret, Jim, Shawn and Marty were trying to get him to stop the match so they could fix the rope, but he got nervous and didn't want to stop it for some reason. It was taped, so they could of just editted everything. So they finished the match and I think the Rockers did with it then. The match was terrible though. When they came back to Vince, he said hell no on showing the match and the deal was dead. They then decided to keep Bret and Jim together for a bit longer.

Is the Rockers-HF going to be the title change match? or is it going to be the
Double DQ match in April 1990 in which Demolition came out?

Matches I wished were included on the DVD

Vs British Bulldogs were they won the tag team title.
Vs Demoliton 2 of 3 fallss Summerslam 90
Vs Piper at WM8
All 3 KOTR 93 matches vs Razor, Perfect,Bam Bam
Owen Hart in the First Action Zone Show
Vs Ric Flair at Souled Out 98

Yeah that Demolition match was awesome too.
