View Full Version : Who's underlooked in the WWE?
Kane Knight

You know, someone who's got it all, but hasn't been recognised yet. Someone hot and underappereciated, or maybe just hasn't got the chops quite yet.
What this thread is not intended for: Chris Jericho, or anyone else who's been on top. I like Jericho and I feel he's been underused in the past, but he's a great example of someone who's been recognised and placed in a high position. He's also a great example for this purpose.
This isn't just an up and comers thread...If you think someone's not yet reached their peak (I'll use RVD in this example, given the sheer fan favoritism...), by all means, bring them up.

Shelton Benjamin I know he has gotten a push and is young so it might be tough to say he is overlooked but here it goes
WWE Management just can't get him over the way they want. Every time he wrestlers some one who isn't really a big name wrestler the crowd just doesn't care about him. The Creative team definitely needs look at him and try and fix and or give him a new personality.
Shelton has gotten a push, but he really could be so much more.
So there probably are more overlooked superstars on the roster, but Shelton is the first name that came to mind when I opened this thread.

Val Venis. The sad thing is the WWE KNOWS he has the talent, but do nothing with it. The guy's been loyal to the company, put on great matches, better than what he should be doing with the time they give him, and he can get over so easily as a face or a heel.
I also think Ken Kennedy, although new, and probably in-line to receive a solid mid-card push, could be something huge if they use him right. But I read house show reports that indicate he was squashed by Booker T. Not the way to make the most of him.

IMO, Shelton needs a giimmick. I like him as he is but that isnt going to cut it with the average fan base. He's just another athletic bluechipper trying to go out there and wrestler. Big deal. In today's "realistic" WWE, the bluechipper is a dime a dozen.
Shelton loves Sting. Sting has been his hero forever. He has stolen the Stinger Splash (shit, JR calles it the Stinger Splash too). Why not give him a knock off Sting gimmick? Dress him in black with scorpions on his clothes, colored or white scorpions (doesnt matter), paint his face and call him "Scorpion". Give him the Scorpion Death Driver and the Splash. Have him go crazy with his high flying moves etc. They could have something tramatic happen to him, something like Kane beating the absolute shit out of him by the request of Kerwin and Shelton says bye bye for weeks, coming back being all evil like and shit (as a face thou)
I think thats one way Shelton could get over. This "There Aint No Stopping Me Now" bullshit is terrible. No more bluechippers. With no competition for the WWE, silly gimmicks need to return to make things interesting again.

I thought of Shelton as well and for all the reasons mentioned. If I had to choose another, it be Hurricane or Tajiri. We just don't see enough of them and they deserve to be on SD! There is much talent in those three names, yet they are being wasted on Heat to matches barely anyone watches.

was never given a go (other than his tag team run). Personally, after no mercy, he should have had a missve heel turn where he would dis-repect women (like Jeff Jarrett in the late 90's)
I reckon he could have gotten over really well

I also have to go with the Book man, he has everything a wrestler needs to be an established main eventer.. Mic skills, fairly good in-ring skills and he can easily be really over with the crowd. What else does he need..?
It's funny though, or rather sad.. The WWE is has many wrestlers that fit your description KaneKnight, so there's alot of wrestlers to choose from.
I still have hope for this man though..

Val Venis.
Shelton Benjamin (although his time will come)
Kerwin White.
And yeah I agree with Rene Dupree, although he too is very young.
As for Booker T and Rob Van Dam - they HAVE been underlooked, but the chance has gone now, especially with Booker T, he's been jobber to the stars for too long to be seen as a major threat now, plus he's way past his prime. RVD probably still is underlooked, as he still could be the main guy in WWE, but 2 years ago was when he should have been pushed up there.
And Christian seems to be heading towards stardom now, so I won't say he's underlooked.

Booker T and RVD aren't overlooked, IMO. They're just guys that haven't been used to their full potential. I might even disagree with Shelton Benjamin, but he doesn't even seem to be mid-card level anymore.
I agree 100% with Rene Dupree, The Hurricane & Tajiri. These three guys are extremely talented, and often get skipped over in plans for the future of the company. These guys have some great contributions to make.

Stevie Richards. The WWE even says that he is a good talent...then they don't use him AT ALL. He's been treated as enhancement talent ever since he left ECW, and he deserves more
Jaton
08-27-2005, 09:52 AM
He deserves a lot more. I agree with almost everyone's opinion on this so far. So many guys are being overlooked. Hell, I think with Conways new gimmick, he should at least be pushed a little to try to get it over.
I mean, personal opinion apart, I think the guy could be huge. He has the look, he has good in-ring skills. He was never given any time on the mic besides kissing Canada's ass when he was in La Res.
Now, I personally think he needs to get new tights. They piss me off to no end.

Christian: Far more interesting than Edge. But is just being pushed aside. It seems people are screaming for this guy to be a main eventer but the WWE just is not listening.
Muhammed Hassan: I got to say that im pissed off that WWE scrapped this Character. Fuck what UPN say this guy was brilliant. Even though he was a Heel i tend to my find myself agreeing with most of the stuff he said.
Shelton Benjamin: It starting to look like their losing interest in him :(.
Charlie Haas: Deserved so much better.
Steven Richards: Very underated. Deserves a chance...
Rene Dupree: This guy in my book is a potential future Main Eventer.. I thought he was getting somewhere but down the line WWE just lost complete interest in him.
Kane: I saw a sign this week on Raw saying Kane = Underated. (Wasnt exactly easy to miss) But none the less. They tried to make him into a monster but completely ruined it. He was better off with the Mask.
Chavo: What the hell is he going to acheive out of this Kerwin white gimmick?.. Is he even going to wrestle again?.

If they're already jobbing Kennedy out, something's wrong, and it'd make him in line for "Overlooked." So fr he's had a good push though, so he's kinda...Iffy...
I feel bad for Venis. He and Scotty 2 Hotty are crazy over, are good workers in the ring, and will always be jobbers. Though btoh have accomplished a bit in the ring (Euro Champ and tag champ, respectively), which may be as far as they shoulda gone anyway.

Plus, this Sharmelle bullshit. I can't fucking take him serious anymore, and that's saying something. IT's like...Okay, his wife is ringside. So what? She's fugly...And this is a former Miss Black America? Please...What, only the skanks do that instead of the REAL miss america?
Watching some horsefaced woman point to her open hand as Booker dances around before jobbing is NOT entertainment. Unless we're putting on a Minstrel show...I forget...Are we?

Sean O'Haire.
I think the WWE really dropped the ball on the guy. I think he could've been a future main eventer. Or upper mid-card at least. I mean, with Snitsky, Masters, and Heidenreich already cluttering the mid-card up, don't tell me there couldn't've been room for O'Haire.

Haas, Richards, & Hassan come to mind at the moment, but I have to disagree with the idea that Booker T is "underlooked". He might not be used in the best ways possible at the moment, but he peaked (w/a tag team) as one half of Harlem Heat and then peaked as a singles wrestler by being a 5 time world champ. I'm not saying he's past his prime (I would love for him to make a run with the belt again) but as KK opened this theme with....
What this thread is not intended for: Chris Jericho, or anyone else who's been on top. I like Jericho and I feel he's been underused in the past, but he's a great example of someone who's been recognised and placed in a high position. He's also a great example for this purpose.
Booker T fits into this idea perfectly.

Venis was also an IC Champ and World Tag Team Champ, not that it really matters. Personally, I hope they have him turn on Viscera and side with Trish Stratus as her new "weapon" against Viscera. Venis beats Viscera cleanly, and moves into a feud with Edge or something. Venis & Stratus have been done before, but Venis is being mis-used right now and could still do some fantastic things for the company. On Heat it was good to see him showcase some of the stuff he can do. The guy performed a sunset flip from the top rope flawlessly. That deserves credit.
Scotty 2 Hotty picked up a win in the main event of Velocity this week. It isn't much, and it was a DQ win, but it's the best Scotty's had for a long time. Scotty deserves better, and a serious push for the Cruiserweight Title is definately in order, IMO.
Here's another guy for the list. Mike Bucci has proven himself to be a genius in the ring. As Nova in ECW, he was extremely over, and he invented some pretty cool moves. In the WWE HE IS PLAYING A FUCKING FITNESS INSTRUCTOR WHO CAN'T WIN A MATCH AGAINST ANYONE ON THE ROSTER!!!!!!!!!! Watching him create some pretty cool spot sis fun, but seeing how smoothly he works in the ring makes me wish he was actually pushed instead of being held back on Velocity beating Russell Simpson.

I'm agreeing with everyone with Val Venis. He has everything you want in a mian eventer. I just really don't know what happened there. He always gives his all... even when he's jobbing to Masters. I've never seen him have a really bad match.
Has anyone noticed that Val and Edge will wrestle often? And I know it's not to put Edge over. It seems like Edge bugs management to give Val some proper TV time. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like that to me.

Why not link Shelton back up with Angle and make him heel? Remeber when the Rock debuted as baby face third generation Rocky Maivia no one really gave a shit, but then he joins the Nation as a heel and builds off of that to become The Rock. I think the affiliation with Angle could be as good for Shelton as the affiliation with HHH was good for Orton and Batista.

How is Edge underlooked? He's in a rather high profile feud, and won the guaranteed title shot contract at Mania.
I agree with everyone else you mentioned. However I think as someone mentioned above, Booker fits into the "Jericho" catorgory that KK mentioned initially.
