View Full Version : Vince McMahon Meeting at RAW

The CyNick

Dave Shearer over at 1wrestling has a post up about a meeting that took place with WWE talent at RAW, the following is an account of what happened at the meeting:

---
At this week’s talent meeting before Raw, Vince McMahon was very animated about both in his feelings concerning people, like myself, who cover the professional wrestling business, as well as the disdain he feels for those of his employees who talk to the wrestling press (which, it should be mentioned, he has instructed his PR department to cut off all ties with already). In the speech, during which I was told he referred to wrestling reporters as “parasites”, he expressed confusion as to why his employees would talk to the wrestling press. He was said to be really upset that all of the details from the previous pre-television meetings that the company has had recently have been reported. I am not sure of his exact wording, but he definitely implied that if said wrestlers were found to be leaks, they would be ex-WWE wrestlers post haste. Again, as we have talked about in the past, this is the very reason why we are always forced to quote “unnamed sources” in WWE news stories. A source going on the record will get more heat than you can imagine.

To hammer home his point about not leaking information, he said things like “it ruins the illusion” and “spoils the product for the fans.” I can tell you this Vince, many of your employees speak to the press because they are frustrated by the direction of your company and your inability to make obvious changes when they are staring you in the face. As frustrated as you are, many of them feel the same way when they see the same mistakes being repeated over and over again.
----

Ive said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but VKM is an idiot. Vince should get on his hands and knees that he has this wealth of information and free market research at his disposal. Instead he threatens his employees' jobs if they talk tot he wrestling media. How dumb is that? I mean I dont recall hearing about Vince calling meetings during the big boom period to tell employees not to talk to the media. I guess when he reads positive things about himself in the Observer its all good, but when the same publication criticizes him for making dumb decisions its all of a sudden evil.

Vince should be so happy that there are enough people who are so crazy about the product that they would subscribe to a newsletter or visit a wrestling website. Instead he pisses on the people who care the most about the product. He really is a demented individual.

Honestly, if I was a wrestler being buried, I wouldn't mind selling some info to some "smarts" for a very hefty price.

Dave Meltzers gay lover comes up to me and says: "Hey Naitch, got any dirt on the latest happenings in the company?"

Me: "Yeah **** you homo, show me the money! SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!"

Dave Meltzers' gay lover: *Shows Naitch the money* $1000 Naitch, you like?

Me: I LIKE!!!!! Alright, plans right now are for Jamie Noble to turn face with Ultimo. Ultimo is gonna turn heel and side with Tajiri and his crew.

(Regardless if the info was true or not, I'd use it to my advantage and make some extra cash if I was being buried in the company at the moment)

I think Vince is getting senile....I also think that what really "ruins the
illusion and spoils the product for the fans" is the fact that blatant st-
upidity runs amock every week on their shows.

When you are constantly showing/proving/telling people that it's fake,
it's very hard for them to imagine it any other way (real) and/or enjoy
it.

If David Blaine approaches me on the street and teaches me how to
perform a card trick, and then performs it himself, why should I be en-
tertained? I mean,most of the people know it's fake,but:
A) Why throw it in their faces every chance you get? AND
B) How do you then expect them to get enjoyment out of it...

It's all very stupid.

Vince should be shot dead, and we'll see how the WWE goes without him. Would Shane and Stephanie be able to take WWE to another boom period? I mean, they are younger and I guess more in tune with our demographic. I don't know about Steph though. Let Shane and possibly Bischoff run the show.

Oh wait Vince is still alive, nevermind. I got carried away there. Sorry

Brock will "kill anyone on the internet?" If he really said that, that really lowers my respect for the guy. Perhaps those rumors of him getting an inflated ego are true. :(

Anyway, that's just pretty stupid of Vince to find scapegoats rather than fix the problem. There was one thread that asked what people thought of him. I honestly said I think he's too stubborn, and this is one clear example. The man has power and has grown egotistical and selfish. Power corrupts, but you'd expect a guy to be a little more reasonable.

I'd like to see Brock Lesnar try it. He should look in the mirror and remember he was an NCAA champion 5 years ago and has been a FAKE wrestler ever since. Ken Shamrock would have kicked his fu</>cking arse and he didn't have half the nerve this guy does. He must have a lot a balls. Not literally though because we all know what steriods and HGH do don't we?

RNW: Yeah, right.

Door opens.

BROCK: Hi. Is Lou P. Daight here?

It's not our fault that Mick Foley game many fans a new view with his books Have A Nice Day and Foley Is Good.

It's three shades of cres that he's not down with internet fans, however, we're still fans never the less and shouldn't be viewed as parasites. So yeah, I could see why Mayor McCheese, I mean Vince McMachon can be pissed, but he's insulting the fans? It's bad enough he has been taking it out on us!

Him taking it out on the fans is not a recent thing... Let's look at some random pictures that show Vince McMachon taking it out on the fans!

I swear they have an intern writer, or a 5 year old writing the stuff for the cruiser weights.

All the fans want the deadman, not the hick piece of trash.

They took a squash match from 2002 to make a title feud for 2004.

Now I'm not saying wrestling sucks. If it did, I wouldn't bother watching it twice a week, playing the video games, reading the books, watching the old tapes, etc. I'm saying just because Mayor McCheese can't pass off a happy meal as a supersized big mac value meal doesn't mean he need to get his buns all tight about it.

He said "reporters" not all internet fans. People that go out and give the storyline out in "spoilers". Sure, there's the old "don't read it" stuff, but it's out there anyway. If I see news and there's speculation or whatever in it, I check it out.

For instance, when the WWF bought WCW. I would've been ****ing SHOCKED had I not read about it on Friday.

Vic I'm not gonna defend...

Rock's leaves of absences are his own choices. Would you rather Vince TRY to STOP Rock from appearing in movies, only for Rock, even if he DID "have to" stay in wrestling due to contracts or whatever to put on half ass performances as a result?

Commercials pay bills.

I think I missed the SmackDown! segment with Tajiri as a ref. :(

Of course we want "deadman", but he's used that for years. Throw in the fact that what Taker has used since 2000 has been more like the "real him". Excuse them for trying to throw a new spin on things. Despite ALL that, they're apparently bringing deadman back, so kwitcherbitchin on that one.

It's wrestling. Wrestling's always going to have its predictable points. There aren't too many ways around it.

As for Lesnar/Holly, they're trying something different. Whatever.

Anyway, I'd get a pile of "good stuff" together...but I think you can think of good stuff that's come out of the WWE on your own...or you wouldn't watch it ever, period.

k, I'm done.

I'm a firm believer in the idea of "To each their own" and I respect your views as a person. I've given out spoilers sometimes. No, I don't have my own website, but I have "ruined" it for other people. Thus, I was insulted, and I'd live to give a big "my bad" for the points where I was wrong, or misunderstood.
I'm sure most people on this board like wrestling, albeit we'll make fun of it. From the booking, to the lack of talent, to the missused talent, or anything else we can poke fun at... If info leaked from the white house you wouldn't blame the people it was going to screw over for the mess, you blame whoever leaked it. That, mon ami, is life. I respect the fact that of all the people who thinks Mayor McCheese is full of himself you took my post one on one, and I thank you for giving me a moment in your spotlight, but Vince should NOT blame the internet for spoilers leaking.

So extend that for a second: reporters report this stuff because we'll eat it up. 2+2...

Rock's leaves of absences are his own choices. Would you rather Vince TRY to STOP Rock from appearing in movies, only for Rock, even if he DID "have to" stay in wrestling due to contracts or whatever to put on half ass performances as a result?

Ummm...That's not the only other choice. they could NOT bring him back for one night, only to drop him yet again...He's doing the movie thjing...Great for him....But people lose interest when they realize he's gonna be there for a couple of nights and leave again.

Commercials pay bills.

And if they could draw more viewers, they could get enough sponsors that they don't have to play the same 3 commercials 50 times a night.

Of course we want "deadman", but he's used that for years. Throw in the fact that what Taker has used since 2000 has been more like the "real him". Excuse them for trying to throw a new spin on things. Despite ALL that, they're apparently bringing deadman back, so kwitcherbitchin on that one.

So...I'm lost here...We should forget that we liked a wrestler the way he was, and like his new, stupid gimmick because he's too lazy to act anymore? They threw a new spin on it. People don't like it. Wouldn't it be smart to take that as an omen?

As for Lesnar/Holly, they're trying something different. Whatever.

Seems more like they're rehashing a bunch of older ideas.

Sorry, I don't buy it. I mean, it's your opinion and all, but easier said than done. People don't like the Undertaker as he is, the cruiserweight scene was a joke for quite some time, and accident prone Hardcore Holly's getting TV time while Ultimo Dragon drifts back and forth between Velocity and Dark Matches.

Nobody here really wants to hate wrestling, it's just that they've given us more than enough reasons to hate it, and Vince is rushing headlong after total offense. I'm hoping one day the internet community smartens up and stops watching, because I would really LOVE to see Vince's reaction to Raw drawing less than reruns of MASH...

It's not that I want him to fail, or wrestling to die, I'm just sick of supporting people who hate us. I used to buy PPVs regularly, now I don't. I used to shell out a lot of money on their merchandise. Now I don't. If they were replacing "Smarks" with other fans, I'd say that it was probably a smart move, but look at the ratings...They can't find people stupid enough to worship them the way they want...

Obviously the internet fans knew about it.

It does mean something that non-wrestling fans knew it, and it means something that the mainstream press covered it before the fact too.

It kills the notion of the surprise being ruined by wrestling reporters, as CNN doesn't keep many of them on tap. Nor does MSNBC. It was news on business and entertainment news...

To you, perhaps.

I don't really see it as that much of a difference.

Look at it this way: Do you ever watch movies on DVD/VHA/Cable/Llamagram? You ever get excited over a scene you've seen before, and know is going to happen?

Quality events don't need to be a surprise to be majorly exciting, and this is why there are wrestling tapes and DVDs out there.

Well, there's a lot of wrestlingin general that's predictable.

Id predictability is an issue, you definitely don't need the internet to ruin your enjoyment.

Especially if you apply common sense: Pick what the fans would like to see, and go as far from it as is feasible.

Example: 3 months ago, Vince was wondering what the fans would enjoy seeing...TGhe answer was Rey Mysterio and Ultimo duke it out for the CW title on PPV. As a result, he booked 58 Tajiri v. Knoble matches.
