View Full Version : Benoit's new gimmick, the crossface*SD Spoilers*

His mic work is about 100 times more entertaining now with the 25 seconds gimmick. He's showing major signs of charisma, his emphasis on the words coffee cup tonight was hillarious.

The side benefit of this 25 second angle is that it's selling the crossface as an out of nowhere instant match ending move. Look at the way they've booked both matches, OJ starts with a flurry of offense but then Benoit just like that drops him down and locks on the crossface and the match is over. If they keep doing this kinda of thing, eventually they can turn the crossface into Benoit's answer to Angle's Grapevine Ankle lock.

Sure the crossface has been broke up a ton of times in the past but if in the next few months (as they start getting away from 25 second matches and have Benoit wrestling longer title defences) they book it so that not a single wrestler ever gets out of the crossface, you'll have a super hot finisher, that not only increases Benoit's reputation (not that it really needs much of an increase) but it brings much needed crediblity to the US title. Plus as an added bonus it'll allow for some awesome will he or won't he escape the crossface spots, where wrestlers can get close only for Benoit to increase the pressure causing them to tap (see the Crossface on Jericho at JD 2000 as an example) or roll away from the ropes ala Wrestlemania 20, and other spots like that.

Not to mention if they sell it good enough and long enough, Benoit will be able to put over other wrestler without dropping the belt by having them last a long time in the crossface before tapping, pass out without tapping etc...

Finally when it comes time for Benoit to drop the title, having the eventual winner be the first one to break the old in months will get that wrestler huge heat and instant crediblity (as long as it's someone the fans buy as a challenger, they could have said challenger wrestle a series of matches with Benoit coming closer and closer to breaking the hold to build the challenger up)

As long as it lasts for more than 3 months, then they can claim it's never been broken. Ever. You don't remember.

But, I like your idea. I think he should've had this gimmick last year when he was WHC.

Sounds interesting, I wonder why it's taken them so long for them to think of something to do with benoit though.

They were too busy coming up with the masterlock challenge and the mexicools.

Heh, yeah. I wonder if the creative team could get anymore brilliant? Those are the best things that have happened this year.

there we go benoit + mexicools = 3 on 1 and benoit wins in 25secs due to tapouts

The Mexicools is actually one of the best things the writers have done. They're jokey yet still a threat. And yeah loving the whole 25 Second thing with Chris Benoit. He's showing a lot more personality during interviews and it's a lot better than his "4 REAL!" schtick.

Thanks for telling us what everyone's basically already told us about Chris Benoit's new gimmick. Your new insight that the move looks more deadly is worth the time reading your rehash of everyone else's opinions. :)

That was refreshing.

I still don't see where his mic work is even good. Between the ropes, you have to respect the guy (even if for WHATEVER reason I've never liked him, personally), but on the mic, he's no better than Chris Masters.

i thought benoit was never about a "clever" interview. His history with wrestling should show that he dosent need a long interview to say how he's gonna win. He just says the facts and proves it

In the WWE wrestlers aren't treated well. The WWE wants actors who wrestle on the side.

Well, his interviews are usually about as long as his matches...25.5 seconds.

He shouldn't cut long promos period.

Remember, Lara is a fanboy. Youknow, like when Zen gushes about Edge?

Canadians seem to want desperately to be fucktards who cheer for anything done by a Canadian.

But you can't blame them for being fanboys...Come on, what has Canadia done?

Canada has come up with winnie the pooh, superman, hockey, basketball, maple syrup, taber corn, the best wrestlers ever on a relative basis, the hottest females on the planet on a relative basis, great comedians, and oh so much more.....

We have also been ranked as the worlds number one country numerous times, having all the emenities of the USA, while at the same time, having none of it's crap.

Hmm you say that, but you cannot simply stereotype... I never liked Bret Hart.
I never really liked Chris Benoit, and most American's do.

But Canada is the shit though. If you don't live here, you probably woulden't understand.

Dude, I stereotype everyone, without prejudice. No preference to any one group. I make stereotypical comments on almost everyone, period.

Plus, the fact that even non wrestling fan Canadians tend to know about an event that happened 8 years ago, like it's a huge deal in their world...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not actually anti-Canadian, I'm anti nationalist. Stupid fucks like Lara always put Canada first, same with Zen (Who claims to be playing a stereotype). Even other Canadians on this board have taken issue with this stereotype and taken it apart, pointing out the differences are not as great as people want to think. It's just cheuvanism (Blind Patriotism), and the quality of life in Canada is slowly closing in on America's "quality."

Trust me. I'm an American who has spent time over the border, followed Canadian news, and knows about your politics (Though admittedly not as much as a native). I'm a Vermonter whose best friend is married to some Canadian cocksmoker who does the clichéd "America sucks, I hate capitolism, go Canada (Though I married an American, I like American money, and I don't hate capitolism enough to totally eschew it)" speech, IU've dealt with Canucks on all sides of various issues, and have noticed a few patterns that I like to totally harrass y'all over.

And why? Because it's fun. The smart ones laugh me off (either as a wiseass or a stupid American), and the nationalists spazz the fuck out because it's been implied that Canada isn't the best place on earth (I'd rather live in Europe, frankly), doesn't produce solid gold wrestlers all the time, or might not have been the birthplace of Jesus.

There are retards above the border too, sadly. If Canada was so much better, I'd be living there. Trust me.

Kane Knight

Or in a shorter form, yes I can stereotype. Now get over BRet. :p

I'm not saying Canada's cool as in "Our leader / our way blah blah blah is better than yours" whatever I could care less about any of that shit. I don't know any MONUMENTAL event's that have happened in Canada since I've been born. I'm just talking simple things.. like great weed that I can't be arrested or fined for smoking. That's always a plus in my opinion.... :shifty:

Benoit is great as the ice man..ala Dean Malenko, no talk, no reaction...just get in there, suplex the shit out of some poor sucker, use a bunch of submission moves and make his opponent tap.

i really doubt Benoit ever needs to talk
