It officially starts today. It's only 12:50 so no final scores yet. But Iowa is looking real good and Bowling Green is beating Wisconsin right now.

Penn State at 3:30...

Oklahoma's offense looked horrible. Their QB played awful, they are gonna be in real trouble if teams throw 8 men in the box. They lost a lot from last season though, starting QB, atleast 2 lineman probably more, and 3 wideouts.

No, it's a lot out there. You are a homer.
I'm going against the grain for sure, but it's not a "homer" issue. Charlie Weis is an offensive guru and the two hardest defenses he will face this year are Michigan and Purdue. ND has the offensive power, they just haven't had the right coach to harness it.

They also play USC and Tennessee AT HOME. Which, you might now, gives them a huge advantange... many good teams have left that field with a bit more than just their tail between their legs after a game.

And as for ND beating USC, it's a hard pipe dream... but USC is not unbeatable. No one knows yet how they will fair without Norm Chow against a tough 4-3 defense.

If OU (and they looked like shit doing it) lost to TCU, anyone can lose. It's the beauty of college football.

Joey Slugs
09-03-2005, 10:40 PM

We kicked the shit out of Arkansas State, which really shouldn't say much but then again CU barely beat CSU and Iowa State barely beat Illinois State, so thats a good sign. I was in the press box at Arrowhead, fucking amazing. Brad Smith is the fucking man too.

Also, WTF is ESPN doing with the bottom line? Missouri 44 - 14 Arkansas State...Mizzou St. # - # Some fucking team? We are fucking Mizzou, they are Missouri State. They can try to share our state name now, but they in no way can take the Mizzou. That is ours, god damnit.

Penn State has the oppurtunity to go 5-0 in their first 5 games. After that they have a tough time with Ohio State than Michigan and than Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin all in a row. They need ATLEAST a win against one of those teams go get into a bowl game.

ND is going to lose to USC for sure. You might be right about all the other shit, but I don't know. USC looks real serious AGAIN.

USC is way to much for ND. Nd will get pounded that game. They could beat Michigan tho. I mean every year Michigan is ranked high and they play ND, they lose.

The Miz
09-04-2005, 01:34 PM
Miami-FSU is always alot of hype for a boring 17-10 game. Those 2 teams play eachother way too much and are way too familiar with eachother.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
09-04-2005, 01:44 PM
I disagree. Rivalry games are the shit even if they are low scoring. Watching the defenses will be enough for me. Ernie Sims, AJ Nicholson on FSU - Willie Williams and Anthony Reddick on the U. Hopefully Xavier Lee starts for FSU.

Devin Hester always puts on a show aswell. Plus the Miami QB wears a visor. Thats always a plus haha

I tell ya, ND is gonna give those top teams a run. Next week will be a good show of if they're for real or not.

That offense looked great, it was the NEP offense, 3 TE sets, 5 WR sets, direct snap, everyone catching the ball, setting up the run with the pass. You'd think Wandstat would have known what to expect. College Defenses are going to see things they have never or rarely seen before going against Notre Dame.

That all being said, USC, I'd like it to happen, just wouldn't put my money there.

Went to the Bama game. Atmosphere is still unreal. Our OLine looked superb, especially in the second half. They were our question mark (along with injuries of course), so I'm pretty happy with that. We got LSU, UT, and UF all at home so I am hoping for a pretty good year.

BCWWF

I agree with VEL, I could see Notre Dame being the spoilers for USC. They did look good against Hawaii, but for some reason they just didn't seem super dominant. I guess they didn't start last season real hot though, so who knows.

I like Notre Dame . I root for them when they are not playing Purdue. Honestly come on. USC is going to crush ND. 37-14 USC.

But hey maybe i could be wrong. They have a solid team. Brady Quinn seems to be perfect for this offense. I just think USC is 3 maybe 4 levels above ND. I do think ND has a shot against Michigan. They've had Michigans number the past few years.

Both teams walked over their first week oppnent.

But who was tougher? Pitt ranked #23 before the game or Hawaii unranked?

Dunno, Michigan will be a test to see where they're at.

SOS isn't even in the BCS anymore. That doesn't matter. Nothing to really brag about anyways. I'm thinking we can get past MSU and Washington, MSU maybe giving us a scare but Purdue worries me right before USC. If we were both undefeated heading into the USC game that would be awesome.

VonErich Lives

Wouldn't be shocked to see them drop the game to Purdue and then return the favor against USC.

Defense looked good today, really only one big play given up and a lot of big stops and 3 and outs.

They should have put the game away earlier, both team had some bad drops, but what's up with the Michigan QB getting the ball batted all the time, is he short or just throws at a low angle?

Things keep going like this, I may have to really consider going to the USC/ND game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

BC with the romp. Brian Toal should play both ways all the time. He had 2 carries on offense and both of them were sick, one of them was a TD.

It looks like the Big 10 is going to have another dissapointing season conference wise. Michigan loses, now Iowa, who was supposed to be sweet, is getting handed by ISU. Wisconsin isn't supposed to be good either.

By another dissapointing season, I mean that last year Purdue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota were all on the verge of being national powers before falling from grace last year only to let Michigan win it again. This year it seems like they may not have one dominant team at all.

BCWWF
09-11-2005, 02:46 AM
I don't know, honestly they weren't that good last year, they won it by default. Mizzou, Nebraska, Kansas, and Kansas State all sucked while Iowa State was a choke. CU has some big questions coming into this year, and they are by no means dominant compared to the other North teams. Realistically I think Nebraska might pull off some upsets. Two of its biggest games are Iowa State and Oklahoma, both at home. Then they don't play Texas or Texas A&M, if they are lucky they could only lose two games this season.

Gonzo
09-11-2005, 10:00 AM

True but, that statistic isn't very clear. Those were most often ugly wins, defensive wins because the offense sucked taint. I think that ND will scoot past MSU, get past Washington as well but Purdue leaves a huge question mark. Probably 4-1 or 3-2 into the USC game, never know.

It's funny how high expectations were so early for Notre Dame. What it comes down to is talent, and from what I know they haven't been getting the top talent in the past few years, so they aren't going to win a national title just because of a coaching change.

I'm talking about last week, how people were saying national championship? Unseat USC? Pitt sucks, they carried momentum from what was at the time a big win and beat a good but not great Michigan team, which is a good feat, but people jumped on their backs way too hard. They will probably win maybe 8 games this year? But to contend for the national title is still a few years off.

I'm just a ND fan, and it's true, this isn't "charlies team" so it takes a few years to get his recruits in.

Last week was a big win, and I figured they should have beat M-State... figuring with momentum anything can happen and if Tennessee or USC had a "bad day" there's always an upset chance.

But who knows, will anyone besides USC make it undefeated?

First, Alabama did some work on Florida, top 10 maybe? Then Maryland beats Virginia, USC was in a bad way until ASU stopped playing, and then Nebraska, who is going to be the worst team with double digit wins, takes ISU in OT. There will be a lot of changing in the top 25 this week.

It was insane at BDS. Loudest I've heard it with a team not named Auburn on the sidelines. It was bitter sweet though, Prothro is out for the year. MAy be the overall best player in the country (returns kicks, punts, wide receiver, lines up at RB, QB - does it all). Fucking sucks. His ankle break was nasty. Some people say he shouldn't have been in there but they are the same douches that would be praising them if he would have caught a TD. I can understand him being in but with 8:53 in the game I wished we would have been running it more, even on 4th and 5. I think we will be alright though, we are pretty deep at WR.

Still, 31 TO FUCKING 3!!!!

So after a play the OT dove right at the back of his legs trying to hurt him even worse. 1. Look at the upsets this week!
a. Baylor over Iowa State!
b. Minnesota over Michigan (first time in 15 years I think?)
c. Northwestern over Wisconsin

2. Look at the good games
a. Texas finally beating OU
b. Texas Tech showing Nebraska that a shitty schedule doesn't mean they are good

I didn't get to see many games because I was on the road from 6 p.m. until about 1 a.m., but the Mizzou at OSU game was pretty good. Boone Pickens is an alright stadium. It has some cool aspects, I like how its real tall and narrow, but then its also average in some aspects, and there were only like 42,000 there. (and they want to expand it majorly).

Anyway, we dominated the first half again, holding them to only three field goals (thats only because they basically started every drive on the 50 because of shitty kick coverage). Then in the second half they came back and cut a 22 point lead into 7, but we held on. Definately nerve wracking. Got to go look at the rest of the scores etc. now.

I mean its terrible move no matter who it is but Kiwi is probably going to go top 10 draft. He is the preseason ACC Player of the Year as well as probably the top defensive end heading into the NFL Draft. He could have cost him millons of dollars with that move. Not only was it a cheap shot but it was such a meaningless move, I was at the game and Virigina had no chance of winning that game. Only reason the score was as "close" as it was was because 3 missed FGs by Boston College.

IT was actually the special teams coach. The QB went to spike the ball and he looked and saw the FG unit running on so he couldn't tell them to get off because they wouldn't have had enough time probably. The coach was in the face of the ST coach. He might have thought it was 4th down? DUnno.

I seriously marked out twice at the end... one for the perfect throw by Dwayne Jarret and one of the game winner.

Besides, even if the ball wasn't knocked out, USC would have still gotten 5 seconds because they would have blown the play to check the TD. That and if he hadn't had the ball knocked out (A NOTRE DAME PLAYER PUNCHED IT OUT), it's arguable that he could have stretched it over the line.

Also, some Notre Dame coaches (ex) are complaining that Bush helped Leinart score the TD.

Per ESPN:
Leinart had the option to spike the ball on the goal line play to regroup his team or go with what he had. He chose the latter, took it in himself over the left side and got a little help moving the pile from star tailback Reggie Bush.
"I used all 200 pounds of my body to push Matt in," said Bush, who ran for 160 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns.

While it is a penalty called "Aiding/Helping the runner", it is rarely called. It happened to my team once in school though.

Is anyone talking about the fact that Carroll went for the win instead of spiking the ball and kicking the field goal? You wanna talk about a set of balls right there. Could you imagine what people would say if Lienart got stuffed at the goal line and time ran out. Pete Carroll and the USC team as a whole , have the biggest balls in the country right now. I think they're gunna win the National Championship for the third year in a row. You talk about confidence in your players to pull that TD off. Amazing

I think USC would have a outside shot at beating the Houston Texans. Call me stupid, but the way USC is coached ( by every coach ) and they players and depth they have on that team. I think they could beat the worst pro team in the NFL. The Houston Texans.

Haven't seen a replay since the game, buy yeah, "aiding" is a penalty.

As for what Carrol called, has he come out and said "I wanted a spike and my player over rode me?"

I doubt that, I'd be pretty shocked to see a college player in that situation do the opposite of what his coach wanted, more likely Carroll was selling the fake spike.

Wasn't it Marino who did that in the NFL? Ran up showing spike, then threw a TD.

VonErich Lives

just to add. Watching ESPN today.

1) It was a push, no question even the ESPN guys said it's illegal. I haven't heard any complaints from ND Coaches though, which is good, still should have been able to stop that to win.

2) Carroll said he told his team "I don't want to go to OT, if we can go for it we will".

USC practices a QB sneak from the spike position.

Bush says he asked Leinart if he was going to spike.
Leinart said you think i should go for it
Bush said you gotta go for it
Leinart said something like "well, you have to help" or "you have to be ready".

Do, I think this meant "push me" of course not, Bush just saw a shot and took it, I think Leinart figured if he was plugged and couldn't get a clean ground shot to spike it, he'd try and toss it to Bush.

great game, no complaints or excuses here, that's a type of play while not legal, shouldn't have prevented a win.

So who is the good team in the Big 10?

Michigan:
Beat Penn State
Beat Michigan State
Lost to Minnesota
Lost to Wisconsin

Ohio State:
Beat Iowa
Beat Michigan State
Lost to Penn State
Lost to Texas

Penn State:
Beat Minnesota
Beat Ohio State
Lost to Michigan

Wisconsin:
Beat Minnesota
Beat Michigan
Lost to Northwestern

Minnesota:
Beat Michigan
Lost to Wisconsin
Lost to Penn State

Iowa:
Beat Purdue
Beat Indiana
Lost to Ohio State
Lost to Iowa State

There is no clear cut great team, the BCS team could be any team. I would say that Ohio State and Penn State have the best shot right now, and even though Wisconsin is up there they shouldn't last because they aren't that good.

Penn State. Even though they lost Williams.

I almost bet on the Penn State/Michigan game. Kinda glad I didn't now. I still can't believe they lost in the FINAL SECOND OF THE GAME!!!!!!! So much for the undefeated streak. I might get my redemption when Penn State plays Michigan State. I've already got money on the line in that game, even though I have to wait another month.

Alabama/Tennessee this week. Brodie said something like "We can finally say Tennessee" to DJ Hall after the Ole Miss game. Seems like this is what happened last time we faced a real good team, we played pretty shitty against Arkansas and then smacked Florida around. I dunno though, UT has always had our number. 9 out of the past 10 years, although the last two we should have won. It's going to be crazy though. Fucking COndoleeza Rice is going to be there with a bunch of mumbo jumbo government officials, dignitaries, and the foreign minister or something. Dunno about all that, figure we will get thoroughly patted down when we go in. No alcohol for my buddy this time. SOB downed a pint of jim bean at the Florida game in the second quarter. He was passed out by 8 that night though, haha.

Anyways, pretty PUMPED UP.

Washington obviously threw the game, we've been letting them win until they set the win streak record so we can break it.

There were two games where both teams were held under 10 points! There were two more in OT. MU beat Nebraska! We are going to get some points in the coaches poll, bitch.

Also going back to the Reggie Bush push, they never going to call that. They never have and they never will. It happens all the time. Remember a few years back when a team lost because they called a personal foul when the guy on defense jumped over a teammate during a field goal attempt? Could you imagine if USC lost the game on that call?

That catch that kid made for USC in the back of the endzone. One handed and coming down with one foot in. That was amazing.

ACC is crazy this year. Its probably the best conference top to bottom. Duke is really the only extremely shitty team in the conference. Virgina beats FSU then loses to UNC the next week. BC almost beats Virgina and plays a great game againest FSU and almost loses to Wake Forest.

BC vs Virgina Tech on Thrusday night. Should be a good one. I think BC has a shot at beating them.

See this is where I think the BCS has it right. Texas has blown out every opponent this year, and some very respectable ones at that. USC basically holds No. 1 because of the preseason ranking and the old "they are still the champions" shit. I don't care if they won last year and haven't lost yet this year, that doesn't automatically make them the best.

Maybe i'm a traditionalist here, but the champs havent been beaten. Its complete BS that Texas jumped over them. Texas gets to be #1 if they go undefeated and go to the National Championship game and beat the champs, or USC loses a regular season game. Anything else is stupid. Fuck the BSC.:n:

Its true. If V-Tech wins out then you can't make a case why they shouldn't be in there. That being said, I really think that having official preseason polls is what throws it all off. USC hasn't been all that impressive this year, but they are still No. 1 by principle.

I'm not sure how it works next year, but I know there is a national title game that isn't a normal BCS bowl. I think they should go back to the traditional Big 10 vs. Pac 10, Big 12 vs. SEC, ACC vs. Big East, and Wildcard vs. Wildcard and then have the playoff. Is next years national championship game the winner of like the cotten and rose bowl, or is it two different teams altogether?

Texas jumped USC by like .0007 of a point. Who cares? If everyone wins out I bet Texas won't even be in the National Championship game. Could very easily be Virgina Tech vs USC. Tech still has 3 games againest Ranked Opponents. Boston College, Miami and Florida State (If they play for the ACC championship)

I am hoping BC is able to end all this tho and beat Va Tech tomorrow night.

Todays MU-kU game was awful. We only scored three points. They only had 13, and even though we are 5-3 that warranted rushing the field. BAH.

Anyway, hell yeah to John Anderson. He gave a blatant shoutout to Mizzou on ESPN. Apparently from people who know him, he is still a huge Mizzou fan and hates kansas.

Anyway, anybody else see Texas coming back from this? If they lose then they are pretty much out of the Rose Bowl I'd think. That Vince Young run just now was sick, he is so fast.

Anyone hear about the UK/Auburn game? Auburn won by 22 but there was 3 BIG contrevisal calls that went in favor of Auburn that resulted in 3 Auburn TD's. If the refs hadnt screwed UK they would have pulled a MAJOR UPSET. (considering if they hadnt got goal lined stanced twice in the game as well)

Miami's killing Va Tech too... so that'll straighten things out. Miami is definitely the best one loss team in the nation.

And whoever decided that USC/Stanford will not be shown on any television channel (instead, Fox Sports Net airs Texas Tech vs Texas A&M and FSN 2 airs MLS soccer) should be stabbed 56 times, sodomized, dragged up a hill of broken glass, and shot multiple times.

This Florida/Vandy game is pretty good... going to OT despite the shit officials.
