OK, so I volunteered to do a weekly puroresu report a little while ago, but there was no interest.

But I'm gonna do it anyway, because I know Funky Fly wants to see it, and it might pull in some new fans.

Before I do, a little refreshing of info is in order, as I'm sure a lot of you havn't seen any puro in a while, if at all.

Some major events in the past few years:
Noah
Kenta Kobashi wins the Noah title from Mitsuhara Misiwa, and is champion from 3/1/03 to 3/5/05, where he is beaten by Takeshi Rikioh. A former Sumo Wrestler who spent most of his career in tag teams. To call Kobashi's title reign anti-climatic is a severe understatement. Naomichi Marufuji and KENTA break out in the jr. divison. Marufuji wins the Super J Cup 04'. Get a tape with these guys. Good stuff.

All Japan
The product leaves it's strong style roots, and becomes very similar to a WWE style. Satoshi Kojima wins the Triple Crown, then beats IWGP heavyweight champ Tenzan, to unify the New Japan and All Japan titles for the first time in history. He holds onto it for three months, before dropping the NJPW title back to Tenzan. Toshiaki Kawada declares himself a freelance wrestler, allowing him to work anywhere in Japan. Keji Mutoh occasionaly dons the Muta persona, which includes the most bad-ass looking masks in history. Pics coming.

New Japan
A shift into mixing pro wrestling and mma saves the company. Tenzan wins the G-1 Climax tourney back to back. Then his first IWGP heavyweight title. Proceeds to lose title only several months later, and then repeats this process until he is a 4 time champ. His latest loss was to PRIDE star Kazuyuki Fujita. Chono who won the recent G-1 climax tourney, wants to face Fujita. But Inoki wants Lesnar to face Fujita. Fujita himself has suggested a triple threat. A rarity in Japan.

Independants
Zero-1 Max
Built by Shinjiro Ohtani with the remains of Hashimoto's Zero-1 fed.

Dragon's Gate
Splinter fed of Ultimo Dragon's Toryumon. Features all of Toryumon's former stars like CIMA, Magnum Tokyo, and Dragon Kid, along with new wrestlers trained by the previous Toryumon grads.

DDT
Don't know a whole lot about this fed. I know MIKAMI, Minoru Fujita, and Danshoku Dino, but that's about it. Anyone else want to take this on, go right ahead.

Osaka Pro
Super Delphin's promotion. 8 workers recently left, leaving them with less than 15 wrestlers. Home of Ebessan and Kushinbo Kamen.

Anyone else want to throw in their two cents go ahead.

I know Big Boss MA-G-MA left for Dragon Gate. Any help with the independants is appreciated, as I really only follow Dragon Gate. I don't have the time or money to follow Osaka Pro, Michinoku pro, DDT, Big Japan, and the Joshi feds.

Thanks, thats pretty awesome... So do these companies mainly run their shows as if its real? How smart are the fans? Also, is there entertainment and gimmicks and storylines like WWE? Is there much emphasis on charisma and mic skill?

It Depends. Every company has a different style. Most of the independants run a very entertainment oriented, gimmick heavy style, similar to what WWE runs. However the entertainment and match quality is far better.

All Japan runs a product very similar to WWE right now, which is sad, considering the company's history.

Noah and New Japan are run with very little storylines and gimmicks. Noah's wrestling style is similar to the strong style of the old All Japan. My favorite company, personaly.

New Japan has intertwined MMAinto their company.

As far as the fans go, they are very smart. Wrestling is treated with A LOT more respect.

I reccomend going to puroresu.com, if you're a beginner. It wil explain a lot.
