NEAR-RIOT ERUPTS IN MEXICO CITY DURING APPEARANCE BY NWA WORLD CHAMPION JEFF JARRETT
Security and police called in to escort Jarrett out of arena

The El Toreo arena in Mexico City nearly erupted in a full-scale riot on Sunday night during an appearance by NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett.

During the main event of the huge AAA “Verano de Escandalo” show in front of over 20,000 spectators, police and extra security had to be called in after fans rushed the ring and threw hundreds of projectiles at Jarrett.

In a total show of disrespect, Jarrett mocked the Mexican spectators and their culture during an in-ring interview. Fans began pelting the star with bolts and rocks, at which point Jarrett further instigated the crowd by throwing tortillas back at them.

Fearing for his safety, Jarrett escaped the deluge and left the ring surrounded by a crowd of police and security. The NWA World Heavyweight Champion was hurried away in a waiting car and escorted back to his hotel by police.

The incident is the second time the World Champion has caused a near-riot at the arena. The first occurred in 2004 during a AAA event.

Jarrett was scheduled to return to Nashville on Monday morning on the first flight out of Mexico City.

Jarrett should form a stable with JBL.

They'd work well on account of their Uber X-Pac heat.

TerranRich

YES!! We now have a new kind of heat. There's good heat, there's X-pac heat, and now there's...

Its a weird weird world, when the only thing that got Jarrett any legit heat in the last 2 years was a Tortilla

Man, imagine if you mixed JJ, JBL, the Mexicools, Kerwin White, and a crowd of Jewish Mexicans together.

Culturally speaking, wrestling is still treated as a real sport in Mexico. When you go to an event you are expected to cheer the good guys (los technicos) and boo the bad guys (los rudos). Nobody ever, ever, not even in public breaks kayfabe.

The more famous masked wrestlers don't ever reveal their real identities. El Santo even made mainstream movies with it on. Shit, he was even buried in it. All those WCW wrestlers were publicly villified by mainstream media outlets when they lost thier mask. The first time Rey went to Mexico after dropping the mask, he needed security to leave the building. If you watch Eddie's DVD, he talks about playing a heel in mexico and how his family's life was threatened.

Seriously, I've attended events al over the place, and there is no hotter or more emotionally charged crowd than a house show in Mexico. And good or bad, there is no way in hell that is changing.

One of the reason I'm lobbying for a holiday in Mexixo next year. Don't tell the missus though, she thinks we're going for the beaches.

If you're in the Baja area, try hitting a little city called Porto Nuevo. They have great sea-food and do this fried lobster thing that is incredible. Also, no matter where you go, try attending Jai Alai. Good times.

I have a feeling that he knew exactly what he was doing and wouldn't risk his life like that.

He is an incredible heel. I can't wait for TNA to start on Spike.

Oh and good for JJ, at least he can draw some huge heat SOMEWHERE.

I didn't know that, but that's stupid. They cry over wrestlers who don't want to wear a mask anymore?LOL wtf is up with that....

You're an idiot. I can't even begin to tell you how ignorant that sounds. That would be like going to England and saying "WTF??they give a shit about soccer. That is so gaYYYY!!!!" or going to Japan and saying "Sumo is jus fat asses rubbing on each other!!!"

You're insulting the cultural significance based on your own ignorance. I could actually speak to great lengths as to why the mask is o important and why luchadores consider their in-ring personas so important, but I have a feeling it would fall on deaf ears. Mainly, because you seem like kind of an asshole.

Wow, way to make a bad assumption. I just don't see why a mask is so important.I don't understand why they would take wrestling so seriously, to be honest when it goes as far as threatening someones family because of being a heel, that's just low imo. There is NO and i mean NO justification for that kind of thing.Don't they know wrestling isn't real?I don't see the need to get so hyped up over something that is staged.
