View Full Version : What's the deal with Audioslave?

Honestly, they can't make up their mind whether or not they are a good band.

They have all the tools to be one of the best bands I've ever heard...the musicians of Rage mixxed with the awesome voice of Chris Cornell, and they'll do sick songs like Show me How to Live and Set it Off, but then they'll do pieces of shit like that crap they did for the WWE. And Like a Stone blows my dick as well.

Like wtf, I wish they could just play hard rock, and not try to be original or whatever they are trying to pull.

I agree, Audioslave can be great or terrible. The first album had some amazing songs, but Be Yourself has put me off even listening to the second album.

I've never been a big Audioslave fan despite liking both Sound Garden and Rage. Other than Cochise they haben't released anything to really get the blood flowing

Shadow on the Sun is fantastic.

The music isn't that bad, it's just everybody tries comparing them to Rage and Soundgarden, which they aren't trying to sound like.

Yeah, they actually have a good singer. :shifty:

Yep, and they don't know what to do with him, so the music suffers.

I've been a little undecided on Audioslave. They are a mix of two great bands, but they don't feel like this supergroup. Some songs are awesome, but some sound like that they wouldn't have come from either band.

Audioslave is one of the better bands around right now. They're only problem is the first half of the songs like.. 1-6 are usually total asskicking rock songs (Cochise, Show Me How to Live, Gasoline, OOE , Your time has Come)

Then the second half of each album they seem to completely fall of the vibe and produce total shit.

Looking for boobies.

I actually like that song. :(

they're terrible bland shit, and Cornell's voice just adds to the bland.

Personally I thought the first album had 4 too many songs, and just started to drag on and on... and on. It is a kind of reoccuring theme in Rick Rubin produced albums. blah

That and Cornell's vocals sound dodgy.

Show Me How To Live is friggen awesome. Everytime I hear it on the radio it sucks, but when I take it out and play it on CD, it kicks major ass. More ass than a donkey.

They're not a bad band. They do have some kickass songs but some that are lackluster as well. For some reason, I don't think Cornell is the best singer for them. Cornell's voice, I don't think, matches Rage's style. His is all slow and high pitched. They could find a better singer.

I prefer the second album.

But Cornell was at his best in Soundgarden.

RATM were never any good

The thing is, they dont gel well as a band. Those guys from Rage sound like they are still playing rage sounds, but with Cornell singing over it all, and it doesnt fit. Chris is pure out fucking heavy rock, and he sounded great with Kim and Chris and Hiro..and Mike.

I hated Rage and I hated their sound. With Chris they can only improve over rage so much..but after that, there isnt much. They have a few good moments, but the rest is bland as somebody mentioned.

These guys just come from different musical backgrounds and just dont do each other justice.

The 1st album is 100 times better than the 2nd. There is not a song on there I don't like.

The 2nd album...isn't the greatest. The Worm and Man or Animal are great ass-kicking tunes, Yesterday to Tomorrow and Heavens Dead are a bit slower. Everything else is just kind of filler. There is a song that they didn't release (actually theres like 30 of them. They just record them, but don't them on an album) that was leaked out onto the internet which I liked. Its called "Give". Nothing special, I just love the solo.

And another thing about the 2nd CD, #1 Zero might just be my favorite song ever.

I never heard Rage release anything that sounds like Doesn't Remind Me, Heaven's Dead, I Am The Highway, Dandelion, etc.

But I think they are the best band ever and won't hear anything against them, so maybe they do sound exactly alike but I'm in denial.

Probably not though.

So people shouldn't like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, etc because they are no longer around?

I really like Audioslave. I'm with el freg, they don't sound like either band, so people should quit trying to prepare them. Sure, Derek & the Dominos didn't sound like Cream, but it doesn't mean that "Layla" isn't the greatest unrequited love song of all time.

I'm a big fan of some of their more "unusual" stuff. For example, "Last Remaining Light" is one of my favorite songs from the first album. And "Doesn't Remind Me" is fantastic.
