f'sho. I'm going to make a topic about it, maybe. Depending on if the board is even active at that time.

I think every single person on the forum should be watching it. Let's face it, everyone has at one point or another bitched that there is only WWE and no challenge, well TNA is as close to a challenge that it gets. So with that, sit down and spend only one hour today juding you you have found an alternative to WWE. Just fucking DO IT!

Yeah, I'll watch it, as well as record it. I hope that the show is good.
For anyone who has read the spoilers, does it sound like it's going to be good? (Don't spoil it, obviously.)

<TABLE STYLE="filter:glow(color=red, strength=7">
<font color="white" size="2" face="Comic Sans Ms"> Welcome to the Forum Horsemen's Official TNA on Spike TV Thread. Tonight, on October the first in the year 2005 the wrestling industry changes once again as TNA becomes the 4th Wrestling Promotion to be given a solid time slot on a National Network. WCW and ECW lay in the war path of the unstopable giant WWE, but tonight TNA challenges that crown! In the very first match we will see the face of TNA, the only Triple Crown Champion in the history of the company, and current X Champ "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles take on Independent Wrestling icon Roderick Strong in the show case match style of TNA, the awe inspiring X Division. The form of wrestling that lives on with no limits.
In the fallowing match we will see another incredible display of the X-Division as former Super X Cup and X-Division Champion Chris Sabin takes on the leader of Team Canada and the holder of the previous longest reign in X Title history, the master of The Canadian Destroyer, Petey Williams, and then in the third corner we will see one of TNA’s most unorthodox fighters Alex Shelly!
And then, the video package of one of the most controversial transactions in TNA’s history as former fan favorite, and Tag Team main stay America’s Most Wanted help the face of evil in the eyes of TNA fans, The King Of The Mountain Jeff Jarrett steal the NWA World Heavyweight Title, the very same championship held by legends like Harley Race, Ric Flair, and Ricky Steamboat, from the smartest student of Pro Wrestling Raven.
And then, in the main event, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion The Man Beast Rhino will attempt to destroy The Charismatic Enigma and Shadow endorsed Jeff Hardy. Both men have been, in different circles, been considered two of the most extreme wrestlers in the history of this business. Will the Swanton be able to take down Rhino or will Hardy receive the GORE! GORE! GORE!

Be sure to tune in to see the new face of wrestling, TONIGHT, at eleven o’clock eastern time.

I'm just so glad TNA isn't becoming WCW, depending on old washed-up talent to get itself over (Nash, et al). I honestly don't consider Jarrett to be old and washed up...yet. I'm definintely watching iMPACT! tonight.
The One
10-01-2005, 06:59 PM
TerranRich...for as much as they do like to lean on the older guys to get the Heavyweight division over...but they also equally promote the X-Division, and to an extent they promote the Tag division as well...and the Tag and X are made up totally of younger guys who have great futures. TNA is being very smart with 2 out of 3 of their styles.

Yea Great Show
Showcased AJ and his sick moveset
Gave interview time to Monty and had him in a sqash match, which he does best
Showcased great X-Division action. Gave Sabin a credible win and showcased The Destroyer.
Nice video packages for thier "stars"
Presented Raven as a screwed over anti-authority guy.
Showcased the AMW heel turn and JJ. Brought in the Dudleys in an awesome way. Brought back Nash, whom all casual fans probably know. And gave some spotlight to Team Canada and 3LK
The camera angles were excellent; quick cuts, in your face, fast action.
The set had a "big time" feel to it. I thought it was terrible on Fox Sports.
The video package of the X-Division was tremendous.
All in one hour. This show kicked major ass

The only thing TNA needs to be extremely careful about now they at being presented to a national audience is there pacing in matches. Last night, you got two matches very close to one another that were extremelly fast paced, with a lot of spot moves. TNA has to watch these matches because most audiences do not like seeing too many quick paced matches. People, who aren't hardcore wrestling fans, need time to process the moves and the action. If you go to fast, you'll lose them within the presentation. Stopping and stalling are key.
I noticed right away how AJ and Strong didn't even stare down each other or walk around the ring for a minute or so before the match. They just sort of exploded form the bell. They need to watch that.

As I said before, Impact was lightyears better than RAW or Smackdown ever was. But there are a few things they can improve.
Like LC said, the pacing has to get slowed down a bit. Nothing fancy but just needs to slow down.
Another thing is the space between ring apron and security railing. It needs to increase. Every time someone did a high spot to the outside, I held my breath thinking that they were about to crack their skulls open. Don't know how far it is now, but it needs to increase by about a foot or so.
Brown should not ever have a mic again. He's trying to be the Rock and it's failing. Misreable.
Louder music. I don't know why they've got the sound system turned down to 5 but it needs to be at least 7 or 8. Maybe 9 if they want to push it. And that's on a scale of 1-10 folks.
Other than that...I'm looking forward to TNA.

Anyone know when can we expect to find out the rating for Impact?

I like how Brown cuts his promos. Something different.
Also sounded and felt nothing like the Rock. You must have been high while watching it.

I did like it better than raw. but if those matches were on raw they would be midcards. jeff Hardy isn't anything anymore. I loved the show accept nobody was put through a table at the end.

let me rephrase it,i think you took it wrong. wwe only has 5 guys atop the mountain and never let anyone else up there. in tna they had almost no backstage talking bla bla bla. I said I liked the show but I don't like jeff hardy. I love the fact they emphasize the WRESTLING part of the show. most of the matches wouldve been on raw mid card because of their "king of the mountain" attitude. I wasn't knocking the show at all

So if they're emphazing the WRESTLING part of the show, why did someone need to go through a table, exactly?

I will say this:
When Jeff Hardy actually gives a damn, he is a decent guy in the ring.
james ever since he came to tna jeff really has gave a damn and has stepped his game up tremendously

Gotta disagree here.
TNA stands for Total Non-stop Action. And as gay as that name may be, the product needs to reflect the title. WWE is World Wrestling Entertainment - they wrestle, but they also put on their soap opera bullshit to "entertain." TNA is about the action.
I think that putting out more fast paced, untampered with, "holy fucking shit did you see that?" matches is a great idea. It's such a breath of fresh air from WWE's stagnant, repetitive, scripted matches that they do now. Every month or so we'll be treated to a great match on WWE TV (from HBK or Shelton Benjamin more often than not), but with TNA we're going to be seeing great matches every week.
Besides, they've still got guys like Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, Monty Brown, Raven, and others who can do the slower style, and more often than not, that will be the main event.
Great show last night. Can't wait til next week.

Don't think LC ment that they need to slow the matches down. They need to watch how many fast paced matches they do in a row. Give the audience too much of that and they start to get jaded. That's all.

You have no understanding of the wrestling market at all if you think this. Stop looking atb the business through the eyes of yourself and look at it through the eyes of the consumers as a whole. Name a company that suceeded on a national level where a lot of there matches were spot fest fast paced action for half the night? You can't because none have succeded like that.
Listen to people within the industry talk about the pacing, the pyschology and the timing of matches. You can't do these crazy faced paced matches a lot cause you'll lose the audiecne. You ever wonder why companies like ROH aren't as big as the WWE or WCW or the AWA was? It's because they have a style that DOES NOT reflect the the likes of the mass audience.
THAT BULLSHIT soap opera is what got WWF to the top in 98 and WCW to the top in 96 and WWF to the top in 87. The audience eats up those storylines and characters. You have to understand, you can do those spot fest faced paced matches if you want, but you CANNOT be greedy with them and present a lot of that. WCW did it right by doing maybe one or two cruiser-weight bouts during thier 3 hour block and the fans craved for more every week because they didn't see them all the time.

err, kind of missed another point I was going to make. I was talking about the pacing of matches.
You saw two matches Sat night that were READY SET GO...BOOM...BOOM....BOOM....BOM....BOOM....BOOM...AND FINISHED kind of matches.
TNA has to teach these guys to pace themselves. These guys are tremendous wrestlers, but they can't just go out there and hit move after move without stopping. One of the KEY elements to having great matches is getting the audience to care about you. Why should they cheer for you? Why should they boo you? What are you doing to involve them? Why should the audience care if you "hurt" your leg? Sell those hard impact moves, sell the fact that you're having trouble climbing the top rope because you came down hard on your leg before, sell the fact that you just landed on a railing from 5 feet up and you're slower because of it.
Play off the emotion from the crowd. Go back and watch Rock/Hogan from Mania 18 to see what I'm talking about. Watch HBK/Jerichio from Mania 19. That's what seperates the good from the great. It's not that you can hit crazy moves one after the other and get pops from the crowd, it's the ability to make the crowd connect with the characters in the ring.
AJ Styles, Petey Williams, Chris Sabin are all tremendous wrestlers, but I don't think they mastered the art of psychology yet and that's something they're gonna have to learn. AJ has progressed a lot though as time went on.
