"Hello everybody, this is a first for me, but I couldn't wait any longer. I have a new band called "Angels and Airwaves" and it is the most amazing music I have ever made by a long shot. You all must know, I didn't want Blink to go on hiatus, but it had to....you all will learn why...soon, but I swear to god, I am two songs from finishing the best fucking album anybody has heard in 20 years. In the next couple of weeks, you will all hear about the new band as well as the movie that is being made to tell the story of the album. But no matter what is said, or talked about, no matter what rumors are started, this is the best music made in decades....It is so much more powerful, emotional and melodic than Box Car and Blink put together, that I am currently shitting my pants, and your pants as well....until you hear more, all I can say is hold on, and prepare- Tom "I love my fans, and I promise I will not let you down, the music that we all grew to charish that was made, not only will continue, but it will be much, much better...."

Posted by Tom on Absolutepunk.net. SOUNDS HOTTTTTT

Apparently the movie and CD are rumored to come out in January 2006. Sounds fucking sweet.

Tom DeLonge wants you to know that his new band, Angels & Airwaves, will probably change the way you listen to rock and roll, will more than likely alter your life and will most definitely be the most famous band in the world. You've just got to give him some time.

"Right now, I'm a song and a half from finishing the greatest album of my career, and I swear it's going to be something that will compete with the greatest rock records of all time," he enthused. "Within two years, we'll be the biggest rock act in the world. There's never been a rock band from America that sounds like us. And I hope that what I just said raises more than a few eyebrows."

This isn't the first time he's said all this. Just last month, he released a statement expressing those exact same sentiments, a move that sent Blink fan sites abuzz with excitement — and a bit of resentment, too (see "Blink's Tom DeLonge Promises 'The Greatest Rock And Roll Revolution' "). But despite the fair share of naysayers that his statement stirred up, DeLonge isn't backing down from his earlier assessments. In fact, he says he'd like to take them all one step further.

"Like I said, there's never been a band from America that sounded like this. Pink Floyd, the Cure, the Police, U2, Coldplay — they all come from Europe — and this band, it has the conceptual depth of Pink Floyd, it has the anthemic architecture of U2 but it has the energy and youthful vibrancy of Blink. I'm freaking out," he laughed. "And I'm not saying this lightly. Every single person who's heard the music understands. If I ever had the chance in my life to do something on a whole different level from anything I've ever done before, this is it."

DeLonge has been hard at work on the Angels album since March, holed up in his home with friends like former Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn, former Rocket From the Crypt drummer Atom Willard and guitarist David Kennedy, who played with DeLonge in his Blink side project, Box Car Racer (see "Box Car Racer Talk Sex, Fall In Love With 'Mandy' "). And while he won't give away the title of the album or the names of any songs, he did say that the Angels album is "autobiographical," that all of the songs toe the seven-minute mark and that he plans to have it in stores next spring.

"It's cinematic and massive. All the songs have dramatic crescendos and huge stadium choruses," he said. "If you slam the Cure, Pink Floyd, U2 and the Police into one band with me singing, that's kind of what it will sound like. It's everything you like about those little bands, but also with parts of Blink in there too."

And right about the time the Angels & Airwaves album hits stores, you can look for the accompanying movie to drop as well (DeLonge wouldn't answer if the film will play in theatres or will just be released to DVD). And it should come as no surprise that the film shares the album's rather, um, grand ambitions.

"Since [Pink Floyd's] The Wall, this has never been done. A third of the movie is CGI, a third of the movie is a documentary and a third of it is a love story. And it basically tells the story of the breakup of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest rock band," DeLonge said. "It's a documentary about the past year of my life. But the whole thing is done with metaphors and analogies of World War II. Because World War II was good versus evil, the grand sense of purpose, and seeing as though I started this new part of my life specifically for my family, I felt that it would be an appropriate reference point rather than using modern images."

According to DeLonge, both the Angels & Airwaves album and film will tell his side of what happened last February when Blink broke millions of hearts by announcing they were going on "indefinite hiatus" (see "Blink-182 Announce 'Indefinite Hiatus' As Breakup Rumors Swirl"). While both Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have since moved on to various other endeavors, DeLonge has somewhat famously remained silent. And he'd like to keep it that way. Kind of.

"I love Mark and Travis to death. They were my best friends in the world, and I miss them tremendously. At the end, our priorities were mad different, and I haven't spoke to them since [the hiatus]," he continued. "So instead of talking, I just made this album and this film. There's a story line that runs throughout it, it's autobiographical, I felt like I lost my two best friends, I lost the band I created, and I did it all for my family. And so I decided to write the album and make the movie about my life. But rather than sit there and whine, I used analogies about love and war, because that's what this whole thing was like. Playing music in the wake of the Blink thing was like finding love in the middle of a war zone."

DUDE... They are going to sound outrageously fantastic. Even if people hate Blink, they may just like what Tom will make here.

Don't go to purevolume for their music, because they just have old school Blink on there. Mark and Travis have their own band as well, which will also be good, but that's not what we're talking about in this thread.

Something about Blink struck me as weird though... I watched Meet The Barkers on the weekend and it showed bits and pieces of Blink recording in a studio. You heard me right, Tom, Mark and Travis recording in a studio. Now Meet The Barkers started this year and their last studio album was released in 2003. A perfect explanation was that they were recording one or two songs, but that wouldn't make sense. Tom will go ahead with this project, but I reckon Blink will release something not too long after Angels and Airwaves. Maybe some of you already knew this, but useful information anyway, especially for you RDD.

Well, according to Tom's interview there, he hasn't talked with the band since their hiatus (when they cancelled their show on the tsunami relief thing), so I dunno. Sounds pretty interesting though... do you know when the episode with them recording was aired? Like you said you watched on the weeked, was that the original airtime of it?

Looking for boobies.

It would have probably been the original airtime for Australian Television.

(Saturday, 1st October, 2005)

As for the original airtime for American Television, I'm not quite sure.

EDIT: The original airings of the episodes. There was two that I watched, were back in May.

You must not listen to a lot of Blink 182, they are always saying stuff like that. Granted, this seems to be a bit more genuine than their usual banter, but hey he's pumped up about the album, trying to hype it up. If you were a casual Blink listener (or just a regular music listener who heard about this band), would you be more inclined to listen/buy the CD if he said that "it was the best CD in the past 20 years", or if he just said "Yeah this CD isn't that good but you might like it"

The silence came with brightest eyes;
Like turning water into wine.

The children ran to see.
Their parents stood, in dibelief.
And those who knew braced for the ride.
The Earth, itself, then came alive."

I actually get goosebumps during when he sings that part.

Yeah that verse is probably my favourite part of the entire CD. So moving.

The more I listen to Start the Machine, the more I love it too. I dunno if it's about Blink or not, but the song's basically about something that happened in the past and he's trying to leave it behind, type of thing. All the words kind of "fit", if you think about it, except the last part really... though I guess "Love's a word that you say, say it and I will listen" can work, if he really loved being in Blink and all. But all the verses and stuff,

The ash set in then blew away
It’s getting lost into the sea
I grew so close to all the thoughts I had to leave forever
I left the chill and voice, the screams in kids and ran for shelter

Sounds like he's referring to playing huge venues, leaving behind the screaming fans, fame, etc...

You know I won't say sorry
You know I won't say sorry
The pain has a bad reaction
A blend of fear and passion
You know what it's like to believe
It makes me wanna scream

From my guess, saying how he won't say sorry, as if he takes responsibilty for Blink's breakup, but doesn't regret it; it was time to move on. "The pain has a fear and passion"; he's unsure what he's going to do now that he's moved on, but at the same time he's excited about it... "You know what it's like like to believe, it makes me wanna scream"; maybe Blink was 'holding him back', and he can finally realize his ambition by doing something bigger.

I see a glow from far away
A fame reflection on the sea
I left some words quite far from here to be a short reminder
I laid them out in stone in case they need to last forever

Kind of the same thing, leaving behind the past and moving on type dealie. I don't know, but the last 2 lines I just love listening to when he sings them.

I see the stars they’re in your eyes
A place where kids can sit down beside it?
A fast escape in the nick of time
You lost your wish can’t help you find it
I'm on my need to sworn the start
A fresh new start to be undecided

The words might be a little off there, but hm... my guess is that he's like talking to Mark saying "the stars are in your eyes", like maybe he just wanted to be popular/famous and didn't really care about the music? And "you lost your wish, can't help you find it", they had some kind of argument about it, and they just had differing views about the band and they just split off because of it. Then the last two lines about "a fresh new start" is talking about how AVA is a new chapter in his life, or something.

If love's a word that you say, say it and I will listen

Even though earlier in the song he says "I won't say sorry", maybe this is like a message saying to Mark that if you want to at least talk about what happened and we can be civil about it, make a move.

I don't know probably wayyyy off but it's fun to speculate about things like this. Plus it gives a pretty deep meaning to teh song, which already sounds awesome enough on its own.

Looks like the track order on the CD is going to be different than what we think.

http://www.7digital.com/stores/productDetail.aspx?shop=34&sid=384031&tracker=21

Plus, there is a song called The Machine, which is basically a remix of "Start The Machine", and a live version of "Do It For Me Know"

Sadly, I think this is only for UK ppl., not sure

BTW, after watching the live video of Adventure, I came to realize that the verses severely PWNT the weak choruses

Hmmmmm interesting... none of the "Preview" links are working on that page for me though. ><

The Machine sounds like it'll be awesome... Start the Machine is one of my fav songs from the CD so any type of mix or w/e of it is hawt.

If that's the UK-only one I'm gonna have to import that ish.

What songs did they play

Don't remember the order at all, but they opened with Valkyrie Missile then Distraction, and ended with The War. The only 2 songs from the CD they didn't play were A Little's Enough and Start the Machine. Ironically, those are my two favourite songs from the CD. -_-

Also played an acoustic version of Blink's Down, and BCR's There Is. Overall an awesome show. They weren't headlining though (Taking Back Sunday was), so it probably could've been even better. Still fucking immense though.

Ya my friend is going to that show when it comes to Milwaukee\

Was TBS pretty good?

road doggy dogg
07-01-2006, 11:29 PM
Yeah, TBS put on a raelly good show. TBH I was going mainly to see AVA so TBS being there was merely a bonus as far as I was concerned. But they sounded really good and put on a good show, played a lot of older stuff as well as stuff from Louder Now, which was immense. Cute Without the E
