...Do you guys think that the HIAC cage should be changed to a bar style cage, like the former around-the-ringmat-only blue-bar cage from i.e. SummerSlam 1994, in the Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart Cage Title match?

Would be easier to climb up, but impossible to walk across the top. Imagine trying to get out the Cell with the 'lets whip a guy into the corner' plan. Possible instant death.

The main reason you see mesh now is its easier to bump into (and in HiaC's case, on to.) And most importantly it not as painful. So to change it over to the bars would cause a lot less whiping into the cell, getiing slammed on the cell, ect. Not to mention as KJ said it would be near impossible so walk on.

Absolutlely not. Its not 1980 anymore.

Not for HIAC, but maybe for particularly nasty grudges, they could bring it back for cage matches. Just my opinion.

Yes, there are two different cage match types.

Hell In A Cell is the fully enclosed cage, sometimes extending much wider than the ring itself, so the guys can walk around inside. This should remain the chain-link fence style.

A Cage Match adds the option of escaping it for a wing and does not have a ceiling. This is an evolved version of the blue steel cage. They could replace this, but like other have said, that would pretty much eliminate the possibility of having irish whips to the cage and the like.

Wasn't the last grid-style cage match at St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1999?

i have always hated that damn bar style cage

The last time I remember the WWE (or WWF) at the time using an old school style Cage, was at a U.K PPV back in 99 (Rebellion). Rock vs. HHH.

*I marked out so hard that night cos when Jericho and Road Dogg started fighting into the crowd, I touched Jericho's head*

When I first heard about the Cell, I thought it was actually the bar cage with a top.

I guess if they wanted to do it, they could use the bars but then add the mesh in front or behind the bars making it possible to walk on the roof...

I don't think it would work, though.

On a related note, I always liked the idea of the first video game Cell, where it was around the ring only and didn't expand. That could make for an interesting variation.

Similarly, the last time I saw the old cage was also at Rebellion, but at 2001 in a match between newly feuding Christian and Edge. The WWE likes to treat the UK fans with the old cage, or maybe because it's cheap to fly over?

If anything, i'd have thought it'd be more expensive to fly over, seeing as it's probably heavier than the standard cage. I just assumed they hand one in storage over here, and didn't bother to transport the chain-link cage. Thats probably also why we get the shitty Raw/Smackdown set for our tapings.

The Smackdown set at the MEN was terrible. They had a black cab and a Union Jack made from shiny material (which by the look of it, was made in a fourth grade art class). Good point about the cage though, they must have one in a warehouse.

They use the same set for both Raw and Smackdown in the UK, except Raw has a stage, and Smackdown usually doesn't. Smackdown at the M.E.N had a Black Cab and at the NEC, a double decker bus, god knows what sterotypical icon they'll use for Sheffield. Shame we don't get the legit sets, but I suppose it would be a bit of a hassle having to change it in under 24hrs.

This is the "set" we get if anyone is interested:

You had good seats! I was about seven blocks to your left and in the second to highest row. Couldn't see a thing but Triple H's entrance was immense - seeing all those camera flashes and the green lighting was spectacular

Probably some other american incarnation of what they think English life is about... like a Steak and Kidney pie or fish and chips.

Would it hurt to do a little bit of research!?

Nah i prefer the wire fence stuff that they use to make the cages.

My reasons are that the blue cages gaps are just too big and you wouldn't see many holy shit moments because it would be too dangerous.

The wire fencing is just brutal plain and simple. It has little climbing holes in it to but they aren't that noticable so they dont take away from the matches.

The hell in a cell is a classic match, the wire fencing is part of the legend of this match in my opinion. You can't just take it away.

I love all the spots on top of the HIAC, they are so dramatic and dangerous, you just couldn't do that with a blue cage with huge gaps in it.. i mean shit they could break there legs or arms or something!

A knife and fork probably..

They always do shit like this. They had Austin drinking pints at one show and Y2J had a Highlight Reel at another show and he had some cheap ass carpet and bar stools.. i mean come on we aren't that fucking cheap!!!

I love how we all get stereotyped.. :foc:

 Yeah i'll send you a butler and a maid over.

I WISH..

No castle for me - just a semi detached house but its made of brick not wood so it wouldn't blow away in a hurricane!

Thats one good thing about the Uk. Although thats why most houses are worth over 140,000 pounds!

And thats why its hard for 26 year old, first time house buyers like me to get there first house and it sucks.. it sucks so bad. :-\

Yes, we all live in castles. That's why EuroDisney was delayed opening. Someone said "You'd better make Beasts castle bigger, they've actually got them here. And they're not made of plastic. Or pink. Apart from Elton John's and Jordan's."

But, yeah, topic.. Keep the Cell as it is, bring back the bar cage for intense feuds (Hardy/Edge would have been a good one). Otherwise, fine.

And in Sheffield, they probably will have a cutlery theme, trying to get a cheap pop for the steel industry heritage. Also that set pictured above looks pretty damn cool IMO.
