View Full Version : Hogan = Cena?

I was just thinking... Hogan is who really shot pro wrestling into the limelight. Vince gave Hogan a gimmick which was a sign of the times that any big charismatic guy could do. Vince shoved him down his fan's throats and everyone loved him.

I think that Vince is actually trying to do the same with Cena. He's giving Cena a gimmick that is the sign of the times that anyone with a decent amount of charisma can pull off and shoving him down our throats. I don't care if Cena is "living his gimmick" (or gimmicking his life), anyone who can rap and has charisma can pull off his gimmick.

The difference is that Cena is failing at getting over huge. He had them for a while but it started to drop off, and recently it's taken a sharp turn for the worse.

I just had this thought and thought I'd rant it. I just think that Vince is trying to recreate what he had with Hogan but can't do it. This could also work with comparing Austin to Cena. It's a new era but Cena is bombing.

Hasn't stopped the shadow conspiracy.

I could say that the problem right now is that Cena is a face, but we've all talked enough about that.

The main thing that I see is that the two top contenders for Cena's Title, Michaels and Angle, are so much better than him that its borderline ridiculous. I'd say that just about everyone realizes it. I'm not buying Cena beating HBK at all. Angles done the jobs needed to get Cena over these last two years, and Angle is still on a whole different level than Cena. I blame the repetitive move sets and the "overcoming the odds" thing that he does every single fucking time he wrestles( Come up with something different. You aren't the Rock.), but I mostly blame him being a face.

And it's not strictly true.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Cena is not the centre of Raw. I really don't know what is, it's been such a clusterfuck lately. His title run sort of reminds me of jericho's. He's the champ, but has next to nothing to do with the show. If the show is about anything it's about HBK, Angle and HHH. Add in the fact that he's a very average worker he's being built up to fail. I think the reason the champ(s) have sucked lately is because there's two champions, two shows, one company. But that's a different thread...

He really should be on TV right now, but that would require taking the focus away from the main eventers.

How ironic is that? :)
