A heads up for people using CDs with Sony's copy protection or DRM.

Britain has banned all hidden software in CDs, so no copy protection here.

Howabout the fact that these aren't actually CDs (Philips has actually sued over this)?

Does it apply to all disc formatted things, though they are not actually allowed to use the CD lettermark?

Or the fact that this isn't so much a "hidden" program, since they advertise it on the cover?

I'd be fucking pissed if it happened. Luckily I don't get spyware from iTunes as far as I know.

Hmmm, no more ripping my new CDs to my computer (and eventually my ipod). This sort of thing only increases piracy.

Well to put it this way, anyone who ordered Iron Maiden's Death on the Road from outside the UK or Ireland has copy protect and crap playing software on the disc, I bought mine in Dublin and its clean, the same is with all CDs I've come across.

Just curious.

I live in a state whose Senator is in the pocket of the RIAA. Even if we has such a law, they would circumvent it, and congress would sit idly by.

Amazon is offering refunds to customers who bought Sony BMG CDs that use the controversial XCP anti-copy system. The offer has been made in an e-mail sent to Amazon customers known to have bought one of the 52 Sony CDs which contained the XCP software.

Who cares because I dont buy cd's so this will never get onto my computer. i know somebody will easily get around it, so all these companies are doing is pissing off the few people that are stupid and still pay for music. I support artists by promoting them, buying merch, and going to shows.

It looks like Sony's repenting entirely now.

All they had to do was be threatened with lawsuits over multiple types of copy protection...
