View Full Version : T.O. Punishment Discussion: Did Terrell Owens get what he deserved? Future?

I personally think that this IS his wake up call. Owens will never again be guranteed a multi-million dollar contract again in his career, seeing as he is in his 30s. I think that the Eagles did the right thing so far, and either playoff time, or in the off-season, they should hire him back.
C'mon, the guy OBVIOUSLY learned his lesson because i've never seen T.O. look and act so scared of losing something in all of the seasons i've seen him. I think he should be suspended for the games, and if the Eagles still want him around playoff time, let him know behind closed doors that they want him to play for them and if this happens AGAIN, case closed.
Point = I believe in my gut that the Eagles Oraganization is secretly planning on rehiring him, but at the same time, giving him a "spanking" for his misconduct. I think if they either tell him something by the end of the season or the offseason that he is given one more chance, we might see a milder T.O.
Could be wrong. Could be right. That's why its my opinion. Any thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Opinions? Do it!

He will never play for the Eagles again. He's never gonna get a huge contract again or if he does I'm sure teams are gonna put certain clauses in it that if he talks shit about them he's done. He'll probably be wearing Vikings Purple next year

Atlanta, Minnesota, Oakland some names being thrown around. He will not be traded or dropped until the end of the season. Hopefully we get someone good off of this fucking trade... :-\ Really anxious to see who picks him up and if he is even wanted.

I for one, would LOVE to see T.O. back as an Eagle.
I'm probably the only Eagles fan who thinks so, though.
T.O. would have to make a CONCERTED effort, and ditch Drew Rosenhaus (who, is being ignored by the media as the force that exacerbated T.O.'s notoriously fragile psyche and the drama attached) to get back in their good graces, though.
If he doesn't play as an Eagle, he better not go to ANY team in the NFC, period.
and those saying Atlanta have to remember the team is owned by a pussy that didn't want a guy like Randy Moss on his team. What makes you think he's going to take T.O.?

Batsu I agree that I would love to see T.O. back as an Eagle but it will never happen.. I don't think he would work in Atlanta. Vick already has said "This is my team". And T.O. and Vick would bump heads more than McNabb and Owens I would think. The problem was no one ever told T.O. is Donovan's team flat out.

Surely the Vikings have learned from all the shit Randy Moss caused that picking up T.O would do more harm than good. :o

You see, when they bring out names for places that T.O. can go...it isn't based on any facts at all. Do you think the people making these decisions are secretly telling journalists "Hey maybe next year we will sign T.O." No, they aren't. When the Vikings just give up Randy Moss, who in his time at the Vikings wasn't nearly as disruptive as T.O. was this year, why would they bring Terrell Owens in? That's not even the problem, the problem is in the offensive line.
So yes, the Vikings, Raiders, Falcons, and Packers could technically make a good home for him, but that doesn't mean that they have expressed interest in any way at all. It is just what looks good on paper.

Packers won't because they have Walker coming back next year, plus they have Driver as a #2. Won't go to the Raiders, Randy is their #1 guy and T.O. wouldn't stand being a #2 and I know it. Falcons is a slight possibility. Vikings won't because they have other problems. Chris Mortenson said on ESPN that the Broncos are a good possibility because they haven't ever had a really big playmaker WR. I don't know, I don't care, T.O. is a piece of shit.

lmfao! Trotter did an interview, wants TO back, has even gone to reid to try and work something out. LJ Smith says "I never had any problems with him". There's desention in the ranks... this could kill this team or at least the coach.

C'mon, the guy OBVIOUSLY learned his lesson because i've never seen T.O. look and act so scared of losing something in all of the seasons i've seen him.
The only reason he looks and acts that way is because somebody finally called him on it. He's been doing it his entire career, and someone finally had the balls to say "You know what? You're a great player, but this is a team sport, and you're distracting the team." They gave him a chance to apologize to McNabb, Reid, and the organization and he only did one of the three. Then they suspend him, and now he's all remorseful. Yeah, he's scared of losing everything, but he's had multiple opportunities to save his own ass, but continued to talk out of it instead. He got what he deserved.

The funny thing is, I would wager that if the Eagles were say 6-3 or 7-2 or something that those same players would be singing a different tune. But, such is not the case. Being a Giants fan I am loving this all the way to the bank.

Rumor is the suspension is going to be cut to 1 or 2 games.
If forced to put him on the Active roster the Eagles may cut him, they have offered to allow him to work out at the facility and use all the normal player "benefits" w/o playing in games.

Only just saw this. Isn't Walker a free agent after this season? I seem to remember there being talk after he blew his knee of it ending any hopes of a big money contract after this year. Or that might've been him looking for an extension, dunno.

I'm not sure if they will/can seperately challenge the "de-activation".

The Union is going to file a complaint along those lines. I have a feeling he'll lose that, too. I'm really glad the abitrator ruled the way he did. Siding with TO would have set a really dangerous precedent for players to get out of their contracts mid-season.

In the end, I will say that the right thing happened. The NFL needed to set a precident, you just can't do that shit. Yeah, it may hinder his career while he was performing just fine on the field, but what does it say about the NFL to let him come back. The NBA really needs to take notice of the NFL.
That being said, T.O. being done hurts an already average year in the NFL. No team in the NFC is great, Ben Roethlisburger has been injured, the Patriots have fallen off, and now the Eagles are done too. The only good stories in the NFL right now are Indy and Cincy, while the Giants are having a good year you can't make us like Eli Manning overnight.

T.O. tells magazine he felt 'used' by Eagles
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Before Terrell Owens (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/70702) was banished from the Philadelphia Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058), the All-Pro wide receiver told GQ magazine that some of his teammates didn't want him to play in the Super Bowl last February.
"A lot of people, they doubted me," Owens said in the January issue of GQ. "Some of my teammates didn't want to see me come back, but I came back.
"That's why I felt so ultimately disrespected, because I knew how hard I worked to get back on that field to help them. Had I not played, who knows, we probably would've gotten beat worse."
Owens defied his doctor's advice and played against New England in the Super Bowl, just 6 1/2 weeks after ankle surgery. He had nine catches for 122 yards, but the Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058) lost 24-21.
"When I was rehabbing, they called me selfish for trying to get on the field to play," he explained. "I said, 'You guys are labeling me selfish for rehabbing, trying to play in the biggest game of the year?' If Brett Favre (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/69674) had done it, you would've said he was a hero, would've given him an 'ironman' award or something like that.
"But me? For whatever reason, I was selfish. And for the life of me, I just don't understand."
Owens told the magazine he felt "used" by the Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058).
"One of the main reasons they brought me to Philadelphia was to get to the Super Bowl, so it's just like, I feel used all of a sudden," he said. "You all used me to win a lot of games, and then once I got hurt last year before the playoffs, it was, 'Yeah, we really don't need T.O.' "
Owens wonders if the media is out to get him.
"The things that I've done in the past, like celebrate in the end zone, they're making a fanfare out of it now with (Bengals wide receiver) Chad Johnson (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/69343)," Owens said. "With all the celebrations that he's done, they're like congratulating him for it. But if it was me, they'd be like, 'Oh, we don't need this in football, this is not good for football.' Not that Chad is doing something wrong, it's not his fault, but you kind of wonder, do they have it out for me?"
Owens is known for his flamboyant celebrations, including the Sharpie incident and posing on the Cowboys (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67043)' star at midfield at Texas Stadium.
Owens feels he doesn't get equal treatment from the media.
"I went down to the Houston Astrodome after (Hurricane) Katrina, but nobody made a big deal about it," he said. "But you saw Peyton Manning (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/69814) and his brother, they made a big deal about that. I did it on my own. I didn't do it for publicity."
Owens came to the Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058) in March 2004 after eight sometimes-controversial seasons in San Francisco. He was suspended last month for a series of infractions and critical public comments about quarterback Donovan McNabb (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/70412) and the organization, dating to his offseason demands for a new contract. An arbitrator later upheld the team's decision to deactivate him for the remainder of the season.
Owens hasn't spoken publicly since he apologized and pleaded for a second chance one day after the Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058) sent him home for good on Nov. 7. His interview with GQ was conducted one week before he played his last game for the Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058) against Denver on Oct. 30. Owens held a birthday party earlier this week in Atlantic City, N.J. At least 19 Eagles (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67058) attended the party, including Jevon Kearse (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/69731), Brian Westbrook (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/106081) and Lito Sheppard (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/player/87345).

That is taking it out of context though. You can't say that he went to New Orleans for the press when he didn't mention it until months after he did it. He was saying in retrospect, and I think he has a legitimate case. The media bias against him is clear, but obviously he deserves some of it.

I don't doubt that there is a media bias against him, because it's pretty clear on any sports talk show. However, the fact that he even mentioned it as proof of the bias is what bothers me. Yeah, he waited a long time, but he still is saying that the media is biased against him for not covering a trip that he didn't do for publicity in the first place.
