View Full Version : ESPN Radio Hosts Makes Tasteless Comments Regarding Eddie Guerrero
The Fitz

I'm not sure if this is any of the other threads but read this:
Anthony P. Landrosh sent in the following letter to me. He said that he was listening to ESPN radio earlier today, "The Herd With Colin Cowherd", and Colin Cowherd said some rude comments about Eddie Guerrero's passing. He accused Eddie and other wrestlers of steroid use. Cowherd said, "who cares that he died" and that Guerrero's death was not "newsworthy." He also started speculation on the "unknown causes" of his death.

Mr. Pena,
Your report of ESPN Radio and Colin Cowherd was shocking and horrible. I've contacted ESPN to complain. Please make another post informing the viewers of LordsOfPain.net that you can call ESPN at 860-766-2000. They can call, they will have to ask to speak to a customer service person, that way the voice of fans can be heard. Hopefully Colin the Coward Coherd will be fired. Thanks.
Nate Dickey
Also, Nate said that he talked to customer service and they said that they will tell the producers of Colin's Cowherd's radio show for a possible reprimand and punishment for Colin Cowherd. If you guys call by the droves, it'll definately make it all the more likely that Mr. Cowherd gets in trouble for what he said. Every phone call made to ESPN's customer service really helps.

Tim Chandler sent in the following update to me concerning your phonecalls to ESPN in regards to the rude remarks ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd made earlier today about Eddie Guerrero. Tim tells me that ESPN headquarters has been getting "thousands upon thousands" of phone calls from angry wrestling fans. The calls have been coming in by the droves that ESPN can't handle them all and they've had people come in from other departments to help take them. Tim says that the switchboard operater has NEVER seen such an incredible backlash or response than the one they have had in the last hour or so. It looks like ESPN is going to take some serious action against Colin Cowherd due to the phone number I posted earlier today. Then subsquently, wrestling fans like you called in to voice your complaints to ESPN.

There is an online petition to get rid of Colin Cowherd. Don't know how much merit this would hold with ESPN has 236 signatures so far.

You can personally voice your thoughts to Colin Cowherd as a person sent me his e-mail address. You can e-mail him at cmcowherd@aol.com.

I hope that moronic piece of shit gets fired for what he has said, how he can bare to look at himself in the mirror knowing he has said such disgusting remarks about a fellow human being is beyond me. Also it is certainly not the sort of thing the Guerrero family need to hear at this time.
I am more than happy to add my name to the petition.

Someone here already posted the number to contact ESPN. If you want to e-mail Colin's show, you can also try e-mailing theherd@espnradio.com.
Cowherd isn't one of ESPN Radio's marquee hosts (for example, Mike and Mike, Dan Patrick, and All Night are required to be aired on all ESPN Radio affiliates that are owned by Disney... Cowherd is not, and therefore, his show does not air in Chicago, home to ESPN Radio's flagship affiliate). Cowherd replaced Tony Kornheisar after he decided to step down.

I don't know where this PRICK comes off talking about shit he obviously stated he has no clue about. I mean do Pilots teach people how to become a doctor? Should a moron that hasn't seen a wrestling match since he was in high school, be able to comment about professional wrestlers when he has no f'n clue what it is?
This prick really pisses me off. He thinks what that wrestlers should only be recognized if they are in movies?
The steroid comment is hilarious, then the co-host says something about "yeah and professional atheletes don't use steroids..." and of course he couldn't answer.
Yeah I hope they fire him.

Sent this to the heads of ESPN.
I have never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Cowherd or Mr. Guerrero.
Based soley on the story of Eddie Guerrero and the remarks of Colin Cowherd, I can say, that I will miss Eddie, he was one of the few made me proud to be a wrestling fan. His ordeals, and his overcoming of personal demons makes him a better man than anything that Mr. Cowherd could hope to be. I can honestly say that I can one day hope to be half the man that Eddie Guerrero was in life.
I can also honestly say that there will be more people who will think more of Mr. Guerrero than they will of Mr. Cowherd. Based solely on his disparaging remarks of Guerrero, he comes across as a third rate Jim Rome. I think it would be in the best interest of ESPN Radio to reconsider Colin Cowherd's employment.

I signed the petition (what little good it will do), but I listened to the clip and I am going to boycott all things ESPN until this pathetic excuse of a person is removed from any and all capacities in ESPN. I have digital cable and have a shitload of sports channels. I also know I can get my friends to switch from ESPN to some other sports channel.
Colin Cowherd is a pathetic excuse of a human being. I would love to see your pathetic ass even try and do what Eddie Guerrero did nonstop for over 15 years. You admitted you knew nothing about Eddie or wrestling. Who in the hell do you think you are to say that about him. I personally hope that you consider what it would be like if you died and somebody said "Who in the hell is Colin Cowherd?" and argues that you aren't worth enought to even be in the newspaper. Colin, I am enraged at your poor taste and expression of your opinions. I am going to boycott ALL ESPN. I will tell my friends to boycott ALL ESPN. We know you don't take professional wrestling seriously, but they are athletes and how dare you insult those who bust their ass just as hard as any players in any other "true sports". I respect Eddie Guerrero, millions respect Eddie Guerrero, and I lost what little respect I had for you.

I just had a chance to listen to this, and this guy is just a prick. Even though he doesn't watch wrestling, he still has to bash it, even when something like this happens. He wasn't even listening to his co-host, saying that it is more popular than he thinks. I'm sure we could get a few of these guys who gave emotional speeches about Eddie tonight, to go and teach this guy a lesson.

On behalf of the entire Guerrero family, Vickie Guerrero would like to thank all the fans for their overwhelming show of support at this most difficult time. Mrs. Guerrero would also like to ask the fans to respect the family’s privacy, most especially the privacy of their children. Eddie’s funeral will be closed to the public.

What an ignorant bigot. How would he feel if people started speculating that Jason Collier's death was because of steroids or drugs or something unnatural?
He knows nothing about pro wrestling and nothing about Eddie Guerrero. The only comment I'll give him is the steroids comment, but it was not presented in a good manner at all. It was simply used as an attack, rather than intelligent discussion.
This guy deserves to get fired. Many radio personalities have been canned for far less than this idiot.

I'm normally against any rash judgement calls like firing a guy over one stupid mistake. But in this case, I'm incredibly willing to make an exception.
When I clicked the link, all I got was a "You won a free* gift!" ad. There was no sound file in sight. But judging by the reaction this guy's getting, I'm about to sign that petition myself.

All I know is this guy shouldn't throw stones.
Oddly enough, a public figure is really in a bad situation here. His name is well known and public records are public. I wonder if he realises how easily someone could defile his loved ones, and how similar his statement is.
That said, if I find anyone here gets the idea, I'll spring for airfare to come kick your ass.
It was just an interesting point. The man left behind a wife and three kids (Two according to Trips), a cousin, all grieving. He has friends and family, he lived and breathed and felt like any of Cowherd's relatives. I'm sure everyone in his family has done something meaningful, like earna Nobel Prize or become a trash radio host, but come on...Dismissing someone because of their occupation?

I am signature 9933 on the petition.
I am not American so I have never watched EPSN, and I know nothing really about the way things work there, but for somebody to disrespect Eddie the way this guy has is atrocious. Yes, Eddie had his problems during his life, but the way he was able to overcome them and turn his life around is a testament to what a great man and wrestler he was. People like this ESPN commentator (I forget his name, his opinions are that insignificant to me) should just learn to keep their traps shut and not mouth off about things they know very little about.
Just let Eddie's family, friends and fans mourn and remember perhaps one of the greatest wrestlers of the modern era who was taken way too early.
Rest In Peace, Eddie Guerrero, you will be greatly missed.

its amazing with all the shows these guys put on, all the charity work they do both in the US and overseas, all the time they spend with fans and signing autographs, that they still get shit on by people.
How bout the radio stations talk about Eddie being part of the group that went to Iraq? etc.

While some comments attributed to Colin Cowherd were taken out of context and are innacurate, we do apologize for a statement implying that Eddie Guerrero's death was steroid-related."
Well it seems like ESPN will not fired him and this petition bascially holds no weight.
I think Eddie loves the support BUT I also think Eddie will probably tell all the fans to chill and leave it alone. THe only person who's getting help from this situation is the radio guy because his ratings just went up while the fans is upset.
