The Big Blue Cage...

When was the Big Blue/Black cage brought into the WWF? I was watching the end of WrestleMainia 2 and they made it sound like it was invented for the Hogan/Bundy match.

Did they start using it permanently after that?

The blue cage was used from 1986-1998 The last match I can recall being used for the blue cage was the Outlaws vs Funk/Foley.

Edge and Chritsian fought in the blue cage at Rebellion in November of 2001 aganist each other. Pretty decent match. I'm pretty sure that's the last one so far.

I remember reading that the big blue cage was busted out not too long ago at a house show. I believe it was Christian and Jericho for the IC title. Apparently, the fans didn't take to it too well, so they decided not to use it on television or PPV.

Steel mesh is here to stay.

I remember a steel mesh cage match betwwen Rock and Triple H from 1999.

And I remember the black grid-style steel cage being used in 1999 at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, Vince vs. Austin, where Paul Wight made his debut.

I remember clips of that Andre vs Kamala match being used on early WWF stuff... Andre's afro was in huge effect.

That match is fairly old school (WWWF days) is all I know.

Flair vs Race from Starrcade '83 (which is on the Ultimate Ric Flair DVD and is pre-'Mania) used the mesh as well.

Mind you, the mesh started out as chicken wire and that dates WAY BACK (1937 at least, according to that site) Mesh was adopted because it looked more realistic, and the bars probably came around because it was easier to get cameras in on the action. Granted, you can tell from the picture of that Kamala-Andre match that they use stronger piping to hold the mesh cages together these days.

I guess it all depends on what kind of details you wanna go into for meshing. Still, I have a feeling it's a good bit like the ladder match. There's gonna be differing opinions on who did it first.

I enjoyed it and would like to see it's return as well (although I'm not against steel mesh, I just think it's better for stuff like Hell in a Cell), but sadly I don't see it's return. For some reasons the fans aren't interested in it... possibly it's too closely associated to the rock 'n roll wrestling era. It's a shame, since the bars would hurt more in theory, and it was easier to climb and allowed a better view of the action (without the holes, which take away from the match a little when you notice them... not as much a cameraman inside Hell in a Cell does though, it destroys the third wall as much as that crappy camera shot during Halftime Heat. You're NOT making movies Vince. )

And a sidenote... I love the Bossman/Hogan Big Blue Cage match. Nothing like watching Hogan bust out a SUPERPLEX from the top of the cage.

The Big Blue Cage was "specially made" for the main event for Wrestlemania 2. It was made to be "reinforced"...etc., but it managed to stick around for a while.

Thats exactly why Mesh is greater than bars. Its easier to work with and prevents unnecessary injuries. You really don't care if these guys get hurt do you? Some <strike>fan</strike> MARK you are.

On television perhaps... I know in '04 or '05 that they busted out the blue bars for a house show with Christian and Jericho, I believe. I can't find any info on google on it, but that Edge-Christian match was Rebellion of '99.

MAIN EVENT: Kane vs. Shane McMahon in a Cage Match.

It was one of those old school cages from the 80's. Pretty disappointing match as it was only around 5 minuted. Kane hit Shane with a Chokeslam in the middle of the match. The end came with Shane climbing the cage, and Kane climbs up to grab him and does, but he pulls off Shane's shirt and Shane falls to the floor for the win WINNER: Shane McMahon, in a very disappointing match: 3 out of 5

This thread makes me wanna watch Bloodbath. A good DVD, with some must see matches like Snuka/Muraco, Bret/Owen Magnum/Tully, and Edge/Angle but They could have done so much better picking out more and bettercage matches.
