Brands collide as teams of five strive to survive
November 27, 2005

The recent rivalry between RAW (http://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/) and SmackDown (http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/) will come to a bitter head on Thanksgiving weekend, as the 19th annual Survivor Series serves as the stage for one of the biggest battles in sports-entertainment history.
After SmackDown and RAW traded attacks on each other's home turf, Eric Bischoff (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/ericbischoff/) challenged Theodore Long (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/theodorelong/) to settle the score in a 5-on-5 Classic Survivor Series Match. Long accepted the challenge and the match was set for Nov. 27.
On the Nov. 7 edition of RAW, Bischoff announced that World Tag Team Champions Big Show (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/bigshow/) & Kane (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/kane/) and team captain Shawn Michaels (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/shawnmichaels/) were his first three team members. Later that night, Carlito (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/carlito/) defeated Shelton Benjamin (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/sheltonbenjamin/) to earn the fourth spot. Later on, WWE.com announced that Chris Masters (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/chrismasters/) was named as the fifth member of the team. That same week on Friday Night SmackDown, Long announced that his quintet would be captained by World Heavyweight (http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehistory/worldheavyweight/) Champion Batista (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/batista/). It was later announced that joining The Animal would be Randy Orton (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/randyorton/), JBL (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/jbl/), Rey Mysterio (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/reymysterio/) and Lashley.
SmackDown carries the momentum into Survivor Series, having gone 2-for-2 in inter-promotional matches at Taboo Tuesday on Nov. 1. Can Theodore Long's brand keep the hot streak going and come away from Survivor Series as victors, or will Eric Bischoff's RAW bounce back from its Taboo Tuesday losses?

The same night that Bischoff made his challenge, Theodore Long made one of his own: a battle between the General Managers. Bischoff accepted, and he and Long will go one on one at Survivor Series on Nov. 27. Which General Manager will prove to be the top dog? <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>DisplayAd("LargeBody");</SCRIPT><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR class=even><TD><SCRIPT language=JavaScript><!--var plugin=(navigator.mimeTypes && navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-shockwave-flash"])?(navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-shockwave-flash"].enabledPlugin):(0);if(plugin){plugin=parseInt(plugin.description.substring(plugin.description.index Of(".")-1))>=6;}else if(navigator.userAgent && navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("msie")>=0 && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Windows 95")>=0 || navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Windows 98")>=0 || navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Windows NT")>=0)){document.writeln('<SCR'+'IPT LANGUAGE=VBScript\>');document.writeln('on error resume next');document.writeln('plugin=(IsObject(CreateObject("ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.6")))');document.writeln('</SCR'+'IPT\>');}var pr_redir='$CTURL$';var pr_redir_def='~';var pr_bust=Math.random();var pr_pos='';if(typeof(prInst)=='undefined'){var prInst=1}else{prInst++}if(!plugin){pr_pos='&pos=g'}var prs="ads.PointRoll.com/PRServe/?ad=407D952005111902054"+pr_pos+"&pub=wwf&num="+prInst+"&size=300_250&code=no&hide=~&redir="+pr_redir+"&defredir="+pr_redir_def+"&bu="+pr_bust+"&r="+Math.random();document.write("<scr"+"ipt language='JavaScript' src="http://"+prs+""></scr"+"ipt>");//--></SCRIPT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

The war between Kurt Angle (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/kurtangle/) and John Cena (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/johncena/) has escalated in the past couple months. The WWE Champion thought that he finished the Olympic Gold Medalist once and for all at Taboo Tuesday, where he won a Triple Threat Match over Angle and Shawn Michaels. However, on the Nov. 7 edition of RAW, Eric Bischoff announced that they would square off one more time for the WWE Championship (http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehistory/wwechampionship/) at Survivor Series. Angle holds several victories over Cena in recent weeks, including a RAW tag team match where hand-picked referee Daivari (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/daivari/) helped Angle & Chris Masters defeat Cena & HBK by disqualification. On the Nov. 21 edition of RAW, Angle announced that Daivari was now his personal referee, and would be officiating the WWE Championship Match at Survivor Series. Will Cena overcome the odds and his adversary one more time on Nov. 27, or will Angle leave Survivor Series a five-time WWE Champion?
Also, Triple H (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/tripleh/) and Ric Flair (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/ricflair/) will go toe to toe in a Last Man Standing Match at Survivor Series. Since Triple H attacked Flair at WWE Homecoming, The Game and the "Nature Boy" have been at each other's throats constantly. At Taboo Tuesday, the fans granted Flair's wish, and he defeated Triple H in a Steel Cage Match to retain the Intercontinental Championship (http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehistory/intercontinental/). Can the "Dirtiest Player in the Game" prevail one more time, or will the Cerebral Assassin find a way to even the score at Survivor Series?
The Women's Championship could be moving to SmackDown after Survivor Series, as Trish Stratus (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/raw/trishstratus/) will face Melina (http://www.wwe.com/superstars/smackdown/melina/) for the gold on Nov. 27. After eliminating Trish to win an inter-promotional Diva Battle Royal on the Nov. 14 edition of RAW, Melina had MNM abduct Trish the next week. Melina then challenged Trish to a championship match, which Trish accepted. Will Melina further her claim of being the dominant Diva, or will the fans get some Stratusfaction at Survivor Series?
To find out who will come out on top, be sure to tune into Survivor Series on Nov. 27, live on pay-per-view from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Stay tuned to WWE.com as more information and matches are announced for the Thanksgiving weekend spectacular.

So....is anyone going to watch this? Should be one of the years best shows with all the interpromotional matches.

I'm watching. I really don't give a shit who wins the main event, though.

I have no clue who is going over in that one.

Anybody Thrilla
11-27-2005, 09:09 PM
The thing about it is, it doesn't matter who goes over. I respect the fact that they're trying to make Raw v. Smackdown look like WWE v. WCW, but it's just not the same at all.

Xero
11-27-2005, 09:10 PM
Yeah, really, it seems that they're trying to do the Invasion right. Only problem is that they're almost five years too late.

I don't really care who wins this particular match either. You KNOW it's going to go at least seven matches, so this one is pretty much just cannon fodder. Still, not a bad match so far though. Slow, but not bad.

Slow is good, but I have no intrest either, 6 to go so this one doesn't matter.

JBL grabs a chair while he is on the floor and gets in the ring and tries to hit HBK with it.HBk decks him with the SCM but that gets caught with an RKO and is pinned. Smackdown wins and here comes Taker with new pants that remind me of the undertaker of old but that's about it.

If you thought that was good, pop in a DVD of Summerslam 05. Half the crowd was for Jericho, the other half was for Cena. The chanting lasted alot longer than it did tonight and it was alot louder. Plus you can just see Jericho and Cena literally stopping for a second, mid-match, to soak it all in. Most surreal thing I have ever experienced.

I'm back from the show as well, and I've basically lost my voice over the Cena/Angle match. I was no match for the "You Suck" chants, but my voice was heard on the "Let's Go Angle", as well as a bunch of people around me. It was just like Summerslam with the chants going back and forth.

I did make a couple signs, including a TPWW one. But I was too damn high up to even make TV. We got tickets the first day they came out, but we got like 12th row in the upper bowl.

I still had a blast. I've been to 2 RAW's and 2 SmackDown's, but this was my first PPV. Nothing much happened after the show, Orton and Taker had a long staredown before Orton left. One notable was that William Regal was down for a long time. I stuck around for a couple minutes after the show ended, and Regal still hadn't got up.

I thought it was a pretty good show, but then again I went into it expecting shit. Dark match was Juvi vs Simon Dean, Juvi wins with the Juvi driver. Mexicools got a decent pop.

Match of the night obviously Flair/HHH, worst match obviously Bischoff/Long. It was a kick to see the Boogeyman, though. That gimmick is just awful. He's got pretty cool music anyways. Say what you want about Trips, he gets up for the big matches.

Trish/Melina was pretty good for a WWE womens match. Just move Melina over to Raw and get something resembling a real women's division. MNM don't need her anyway.

Angle predictably carries Cena. There was no point to Daivari being involved. It went nowhere. If you listened to the crowd chants, you could tell it was almost all guys cheering Angle, and almost all girls cheering Cena. Angle shoulda won.

Elimination match was pretty good, even though you could see most of the booking coming a mile away. remember when there used to be like 5 of these matches at each Survivor Series? I miss those days. I like Lashley, though I seem to be in the minority on that. He's got a long way to go, though.

Taker coming back was cool, although I was hoping for the lightning bolt pyro.
If they're serious about pushing Orton, he should go over Taker no problem. Prolly won't, though.

I hope Vince catches serious shit for using the N word. After one wrestler dies and another goes to rehab, Vince is still looking for Controversy. Idiot.

But seriously, from checking the photos from Survivor Series, Undertaker's attire is actually beginning to look quite a bit more like his Ministry days (due to the new tights and slightly modified top). His overall look does look quite different from the biker of 2003.

During the last match, I'm sure those who have seen the PPV heard it, but the commentators were all five guys, Coach, Lawler, Styles, Cole, and Tazz, and they were arguing throughout the whole thing, it was hilarious. At one point, Tazz and Coach were screaming at each other and Lawler was making crying noises in the background

Having all five commentators just ruined the match for me. They weren't even talking about the match, they were just bitching about each other.

I know that's what they are suppose to do, because of the whole SmackDown! VS RAW thing but it just annoyed me. Especially Tazz.

Tazz: Hey, where the hell are the RAW announcers?

Cole: I don't know Tazz.

Tazz: C'mon guys say something!

Coach: OK, can I ask a serious question?

Tazz: Yeah sure.

Coach: Are the SmackDown! guys on the same page?

Tazz: What! They are on the same page so SHUT UP!

*Later*

Tazz: C'mon Styles where are ya?

Styles: I'm right here, we can't say anything because of you gu....

Tazz: OH SHUT UP STYLES!

Then at one point they were all bitching at the same time. The only guys that even tried to call the match were Cole and Styles, but they didn't do a very good job of it.

So with that out of the way, I think Survivor Series was a big let down for me.

The worst match was GM VS GM, but it barely got good when The Boogeyman appeared at the end.

The best match was HHH VS Flair.:y: I know Sadistic loved it.;)

For the record, the Juvi/Dean match wasn't exactly a dark match. If you ordered the PPV before it started, they showed Heat. I only got to see the Juvi Driver.

As far as the PPV, it really was a pretty solid PPV. It just didn't feel like it because nothing was greatly affected by any of the outcomes. Booker T and Benoit still have a whole series to wrestle, Trish and Melina was over the friggin' Women's title, Flair and HHH seemed more like a feud 'ender' (which I guess is the closest to resolution that we received from this PPV), Angle and Cena will obviously fight again, the GM match meant nothing, and the main event, while entertaining, also didn't really mean much.

Still though, pretty good show.

I still got some of a sore throat after that Cena/Angle match. Kurt definitely had his cheering sections and I was in one of them. It just seems that Cena is unstoppable. This is unusual to see a face go through so many heels, and not lose one ppv match. But I really thought Kurt had this one in the bag. But I was surprised that nothing came of the SmackDown ref coming down and counting the fall.

But even worse than Kurt losing again, no KENNEDY!!!!!

I'm not sure how it came across on TV, but when you are in Detroit, it doesn't do too much to make fun of the sports teams. The only teams that stand a chance at winning games are the Pistons and Red Wings. I think most people around here have pretty much given up on the Lions and Tigers, but they always get made fun of when there is a live event here.

My 2 cents...

For the most part,. the crowd was really into everything except the GM match. I was in this wierd ass mixed cheering section, where like half of us were chanting Let's go Angle, and the other half was chanting Let's Go Cena. Good times.

I don't know if the Eddie chants came across on TV during the main event.

My favorite matches were HHH Flair obviously, and I really liked the last match. It seemed a bit rushed, but it was fun, especially Big Show's elimination, and Kane eliminating Lashley.

Also, don't know how well it came across, but the crowd was really into HHH. Esepcially when they were chanting "One more time" after the 2nd pedigree.

Also, almost got into a fight in the parking lot because of the drunk cocksucker behind us.

Also, the angle match seemed really rushed. And why was Davari dead after falling out of the ring? Does putting on a ref shirt automatically negate your wrestling ability? Hell, he beat HBK, remember?

Yeah, the announcers during the last match were kinda "meh" for me. Cole was definately carried the commentating during the main event, with Style right behind him. Tazz was just damn annoying, as was Lawler. Coach really couldn't get anything in. Cole and Tazz came off as very bitter and angry, and played more of a heel team. I wish Raw would have won, but I understand why Smackdown needed to win. Even though Smackdown won, its pretty obvious nothing will change and that Raw will remain the flagship show.

Well I liked Survivor Series as a whole. I enjoyed all of the matches except the GM v GM, and I was suprised by the women's match. My only 2 grievances are the commentating on the main event and how Kane and Big Show were handled in the Elimination match.
