View Full Version : What do you think is next for Shelton Benjamin?
Anybody Thrilla

When he first appeared on Raw, they seemed to be very high on him, giving him multiple victories over Triple H and a lengthy Intercontinental championship run...but now, he couldn't even make the friggin' Survivor Series team. Recently, he's had some solid matches with Angle, and before then he was beaten by Carlito a couple times...but I really don't see anything continuing with either of those programs.
Is he in trouble or something? I do remember a short while where it seemed like he was botching something every week, but he seems to have smoothed that out. It's hard to gauge the crowd reactions on him, but I think people tend to enjoy his work. What would you do with Shelton Benjamin from here?
McLegend

People do not care about Shelton Benjamin. He needs a personality.
With that said he will stick around the midcard for a while, and will hold the IC title again.
I say in like 2 or 3 years he will be a main eventer.

Benoit has no personality, so are you saying he's kinda like that? Great wrestler, but allergic to mics?

Yeah but probably even worse with a mic then Benoit.

He has alot of talent, but he needs to find solid high flying moves. Those diving planchas and springboard armwringer reversals are painful to watch because he looks like he is going to fuck up and hurt himself. He really needs to use the mic more, or get a good manager (Ted Dibiase anyone?).

I dunno, I think Benjamin says some potentially good stuff, but his voice and delivery make him sound lightweight retarded. Benoit, while intense, really doesn't talk about anything. He could make going outside and getting the mail sound like an extinction level event.

I was thinking a while back that Kerwin White and Shelton Benjamin (remember that mini-feud) could team up.
Kerwin could start talking to Shelton about how being latino was holding him down, and now he's stepping away from it. He could convince Shelton that he is being held back because he's black, so maybe HE should step away from it too. Have Shelton bleach his hair, and I think not only do you have a solid pairing in Chavo and Benjamin, but some potentially hilarious segments.

True for all but JBL.
What a rarity his push was. One week he's in a lower midcard tag team, then within 3 weeks he's changed his gimmick and is challenging for the WWE Champion. Within another month, he IS the Champion. I can't immeadiately recall anyone else who went from curtain-jerking to main-eventing so fast while changing gimmicks. I've heard of new guys coming in and getting a huge push(read: Brock Lesnar), but never someone that was in Bradshaw's position.

To be fair, Bradshaw was kinda 'main eventing' on Raw before his move to Smackdown. Remember when he was teaming with Austin?
I just mean right now, what would be a good thing for Shelton to be doing?

Wait, all but JBL? If you count JBL as an exception, don't you kind of have to count Edge?
JBL dates pretty far back, and during his history gained the interest of the powers that be. BRadshaw's been pretty high on the card before, and earned his upward mobility in more or less the same way Edge did (They are high on him and will push him regardless of fan reaction). He neither came out of nowhere nor was he previously a "Curtain jerker."

I don't see a big future for Shelton on Raw, unless he starts a program with Angle or Micheals leading into Wresltlemania. With an apparent Elimination Chamber match at New Year's Revolution, a couple spots on the undercard will open up due to the fact that the top 6 guys will all be in one match. If he isn't in the Chamber match(which he won't be) then feud him with HBK/Angle/Edge or whoever the most prominent person outside of the mainevent is. Hell, let him have another mini-feud with HHH, just to get regular recognition on Raw again.
He most likely won't have a match at the Rumble, besides participating in the Rumble match itself, and since Smackdown has the February PPV, New Year's Revolution will the last PPV before Wrestlemania for Benjamin to make his mark.

But would you have expected JBL to be maineventing Judgement Day 3 weeks after debuting his new gimmick and going single? What I meant was that everyone else moved slower up the singles ranks than Bradshaw did. All the other guys I mentioned spent a good amount of time in the mid-card as a singles wrestler, whereas Bradshaw went right into the mainevent from a midcard team, with a new gimmick.

Eh, you're right but the date's wrong. He was a singles wrestler in 2002 on Raw and injured his bicep in October. Next appearance was on Smackdown in July 2003 where he rejoined with Simmons. Teamed with Simmons until May 2004 when Simmons was fired by Paul Heyman.

Honestly, I'm sorry, but Shelton fucking sucks. I will never like him. Well, when he was WGTT, he was cool. However, since coming to Raw, he's way too boring. He has no personality, and even though he can wrestle great..when I hear his music..I just think "SNOREEEEEEEEEE!" and change the channel.

If you think he can "wrestle great", why would you change the channel? Usually, hearing one's theme music is a precursor to them WRESTLING. If it's his personality you don't like, why don't you change the channel when he's standing around backstage or something?
I dunno, I think "sucks" is a very harsh assesment.

Although he is my favorite "pure" wrestler, Benjamin is very lame. "Ain't No Stoppin Me Nowwww" is the worst "precurser" to have. He bounces to the ring, salutes the crowd on the apron, and then raises his arms in the most basic way. I have been a fan since he debuted for RAW in 2002 on Heat. He became great with Charlie Haas on Smackdown, Then floundered in Midcard hell. All he needs is a push in the right direction (feuding with Jericho was the best).

It's too soon to put the title on him.
What I'd be doing is giving him another real run with the IC title with at least one main eventer/upper midcard type as his occasional foil. He could put on a few stellar matches with pretty much anyone shy of Big Show. MAKE him work on his mic skills. The guy's got charisma coming out of every orfice EXCEPT his mouth. HE could drop his trunks and SHIT a better promo.

I think this loss to Trevor Murdoch can be a real jump start in his career.
He can start a big feud with Murdoch in which he finds out that Murdoch owned his family back in the day. This leads to a match at Wrestlemania, if Shelton wins, Murdoch has to pay reperations, if Shelton loses, he is now owned by Murdoch.

But seriously, though, I don't think all is lost for Shelton.
If Shane McMahon takes over as RAW General Manager, I'd love to see him and Shane get along really well. Then at New Year's Revolution, give Shelton a Two Fall Match against Carlito (playing up that he beat Maven twice at last year's event). Benjamin then beats Carlito twice in a row (with roll-ups, so Carlito looks kinda strong).
Just take babysteps to getting Shelton in the spotlight, again.

Shelton- Great wrestling and great presence.
The sad thing is that I can’t see the wwe pushing him. The two things that usually get a push is a massive build or a great character (which is aided by mic skills and charisma). A great character is why Eddie G and Jericho made the top which made the likes of Vince overlook their size. Taking a brief recent look over the history of all the wwe champions all had big size (bats, show, Goldberg, Brock ) or a strong intresting character (Eddie, Jericho, JBL, HHH, Rock, Austin, Orton (Heel, Angle). The only exception I can see to that rule is Benoit. He did have a character although not strong. But his title win and reign was successful because he had that whole experienced veteran underdog thing going on with him. Probably about 70% of the wwe’s fanbase grew up watching Benoit getting so close but yet so far and when he had a chance to achieve the ultimate prize against none other than HHH who’s character was opposite to Benoit in every way the fans where going to cheer him.
The only way I can see Shelton getting a title shot now is adopting a benoit type situation but for that to work he will have to be in wwe for a few more years. He has got to develop a character for the fans to relate to. The whole “aint no stopping me” is too weak. The video package of him of his childhood in mid 2004 was good but should have been expanded on. At the moment I would love to see him do a heel turn and become angle’s apprentice /lacky again then have him turn on him later as a face. He has untapped potential as a cocky domineering heel but I see his long term future as a underdog babyface.
He also needs to lose those geeky looks he does. At the moment it looks like he will assume the Jericho/Christian mantel now that the former two have gone in becoming that wrestler that internet fans will get behind and constantly bitch about him not being a main eventer
