Did the WWE finally cross the line? (SD Special Spoilers)

So tonight, as some have read in the official thread or saw on TV, Rey prayed for Eddie to help him before his match. Then he started calling out for him during the match. Then they used the lowrider as a weapon...

Then it all came to a head. Kane came out to attack Rey... Then THE UNDERTAKER (and to quote Cole: THE DEAD HAS RISEN) helped Rey. Then Orton came out and blew The Undertaker up... In Eddie's car...

What the fuck is wrong with the WWE? I knew Vince was low. I knew Vince had no fucking heart and I knew that Vince is an asshole. But to use a dead person, much less ONE OF HIS OWN FUCKING EMPLOYEES WHO DIED WHILE STILL IN HIS COMPANY, in a fucking STORYLINE....

I have to admit, I honestly thought Eddie was going to come out and clear house. The WWE has blurred the lines of reality and storytelling even more. But that's not the point.

The point is that Vince made Rey, one of Eddie's BEST FUCKING FRIENDS, use Eddie in a storyline. And quite frankly, I don't think Big Show was very happy about it either. He had swollen eyes like he was crying.

Anyway, has the WWE finally crossed the line from tasteless to biggest asshole wrestling company ever in existence? I don't know, but I do know that I've never been as mad with WWE as I am now.

Eddie is still part of the storyline even in death. Thats not a bad thing. And if Eddie loved the buiness as much as they said he did I dont think he would mind. Not that I know that for a fact.

I remember WCW used Andre as part of the Hogan/Giant feud not long after he died ("I'm going to bury you like I buried your father!"), but yeah, that shit has got to be the most tasteless thing I've ever heard of (in wrestling, anyway). I'm honestly surprised Rey agreed to do it.

I fully agree with you Xero Limit. the Orton, Undertaker, and Kane part would have been fine if it was it's own story line. But man, pretty sick of Vince to allow that. I really hope we hear an apology.

I think that Vince McMahon gets his kicks out of crossing the line. I don't believe for a second that the WWE "creative" (I use that term loosely) team didn't expect people to be upset after a memorial used for Eddie Guerrero was used in the way it was.

I haven't watched Raw or Smackdown since July. I stayed away from it at first because of my commitments to God. Today, with all of the sex on WWE programming I stay away from it in respect to both God and my fiance. Even if I weren't a Christian today I'd want to be respectful to my soon-to-be in that respect.

But if I weren't a Christian, and I wasn't getting married, I'd still be human. If I was watching WWE programming, after today I wouldn't be.

I really hope TNA never ends up like WWE, and if TNA ever makes it past WWE I don't think it will be because of what TNA does to please the fans; I think it will be because of what the WWE does to piss the fans off.

From the highlights package on WWE.com, honestly, I can see how it was offensive - the way they used the tribute low rider, but overall it didn't seem so severe.

Edit: And yeah, it looked quite entertaining. The ending reminded me a bit of the attitude era with the way one thing led to another (big show/mysterio/kane/undertaker/orton/bob/car goes through stage).

The original plan was for The Undertaker to come out and clean house with Rey Mysterio looking on puzzled (even hitting a frog splash on Big Show). Then The Undertaker was supposedly going to grab a mic and say "Orale homes why you looking so confused?" then Undertaker was supposed to do that latino shake. After a few seconds of staring Rey Mysterio was supposed to then hug the Undertaker (now possessed by the soul of Eddy Guererro) and give an emotional ending to the live special as well as giving the deadman a new gimmick.

You know what could've been offensive? Whatever the Big Show did that the fans really started jeering him for (that they cut away from obviously before he did whatever it was) right after he slammed Rey's head on the car. He was just standing there, they cut away to the crowd, they start BOOING to God knows WHAT, then cut back to Show still standing there. Did he spit in the low rider or something?

And was it just me, or was that beating that Show did too heelish for even a interpromotional match for him. I know that Show is supposed to be this dominating figure and all, and they want him to show it (no pun intended), but it did seem like he was kind of going out of kayfabe there, assuming that he wasn't truly giving a shit what the fans thought of him or whatever, on either show. If this is true, then what the hell does that do with his status on RAW? This left me confused.

But yeah, the actual storyline with Orton and Taker didn't offend me (kind of shocked me, even though it's the standard Taker death storyline), but the way that Show was conducting himself during the match definitly left me feeling sour. Anyone else really confused now as to just whether Show was supposed to be face or heel, and if the spots with the lowrider and how one sided the match ended up to be ended up offending? Was Show out of character there or not? And WTF did Show do when they cut away that made the fans start that Show sucks chant?

Not 100% literally, it just felt like they were building up to it in their usual fashion. Only they went way over with the build up and it went no where (for Rey).

Also, after waking up this morning I realized that it wasn't THAT bad. It did happen the way I explained it, but it's not the WORST thing that's ever happened... It was horrible that they used Eddie in a storyline, but it's not like they were spitting on his legacy or anything...

The worst thing that pisses me off so much about this is that they're using Eddie's death as a way to make a little money.

I was thinking about this storyline, I wasn't quite as offended as you were Xero.

But I was thinking, WWE is booking this whole thing wrong. Orton is trying to kill Taker. He shoved him in a casket, lit it on fire, Taker returned without a scratch. Taker now got shoved in the Smackdown set and that exploded. Taker is going to return again. This storyline should be about Matt Hardy because MATT WILL NOT DIE!

I'm not going to deny that the ending was pretty good, all they really had to do was keep Eddie out of it (they could have still used the low rider but skipped the prayer).

All in all, though, it sets up ANOTHER Undertaker return, where he'll be wearing stylish new socks.

I wasn't offended by it. If Rey wasn't in the match and it was just two wrestlers going at it then yes, but Rey and Eddie were so close that I think it's okay. I'm sure if Rey thought it was bad they wouldn't have done it.

I personally don't understand why the match took place. I guess something happened at Survivor Series between the two but like I'm going to buy a PPV.

Hmm, saw the highlights (or lowlights, depending on your POV) posted on wwe.com. Basically, all of it seemed ok except for smashing Eddie's car (which can very easily be taken the wrong way; I personally thought it was sort of disrespectful) and if Rey was calling out for Eddie to save him (didn't show that on the video, so I'll have to take your word for it).

Powerbombing Rey onto the car is on the boundary, because if the lowrider is a symbol for Eddie, then messing it up is like messing Eddie up. So that's kinda :-\

Now, that said, I actually liked the concept of the ending because it was the type high adrenaline surprise surprise thing that WWE programming has been missing for a while. Remember when each show used to end on a cliffhanger, or had some wrestler making an exciting save, or some manner that left you wanting more? This was sort of like that. But I do think that they took the Eddie thing a little too far.

And LOL at Orton running out like it was gonna blow at any second, and then like after he's finished running it blows.

Ever since Rey was Powerbombed on the car, I went back and forth in my mind as to whether or not it was offensive, and when Orton first reached into the trunk, I was honestly pissed, but after the show ended, I thought it was okay. It was a big show, a big finish, and just one more thing Eddie Guerrero will be remembered for wrestling-wise, even though he didn't have a damn thing to do with it.

I don't think Eddie would have a problem with it if he could tell you one way or the other, nor do I think he'd want us to be upset with it.
