No one has any good mic skills anymore it seems.
NAO had OH YOU DIDN"T KNOW? and the whole LET"S GET READY TO SUCK IT!

ROCK had all his lines.

Heck everybody had a line the crowd would say with them.

If i was wwe i'd bring that back.. also the whole glittery aspect to wrestling everything was shiny....

If they used Funaki regularly, people would love to say "Smackon numba wun anonsser!" That would be awesome.

You are totally right. Even littler guys had things you'd say with them like "IIIIIINDEEEEEED!" Man I fucking loved Taka and Funaki.

Are you saying that mic skills are only as good as a wrestler's catchphrase?

well Cena has the whole 'you cant see me' thing, the crowd tends to follow that. And as a heel on Smackdown! the crowd would finish Cena's rap, like when he would go 'you can suck my....' or 'i just dont give a....' and they'd follow it.

The concept of catchphrases has become dated now, I think. People don't latch on to things like they did back in the days of Attitude. There are very few, if any in existance, not for lack of trying. Only Cena's "You Want Some - Come Get Some" line really sticks out in my memory right now. Wrestlers have distinctive lines, but the art of using a catchphrase to end a promo is kinda old.

Lita has STDs, should everyone in the WWE get STDs because Lita has them?

Oh, wait, nevermind. :shifty:

In my original post I parodized smarks. If you notice the supposed random comment at the end of my post about glitter and sparkle being around back then. This wasn't random like it may at first seem. It was, in fact, symbolism.

I believe often times we argue about what was better with wrestling two years ago, but really all it was was more sparkle.

I was saying that Promo Skills, Catchphrases, are the same as Rock's 500 dollar shirt. Nice to look at but it helps the wrestling only in a certain way. A way that could be argued as shallow.

Now, I understand that storyline brings a lot more to the wrestling, but appearence brings a little to the wrestling to. In the end if you can't wrestle, no amount of mic skills or colorful antics will save you.

I'm sorry for parodizing so realistically. In the future I will play down my ability.

I think we do have people capable of carrying a crowd. Christian was able to do it, and he was a midcard heel. He's certainly not alone, and keep in mind things like the Rock's 500 dollar shirts, cocked eyebrow, and cocky attitude took a while to get over. I think Ken Kennedy can do it was well as the NAO at the very least. I'm not saying he's the next Rock, but he's certainly got the ability to get people to chant along with him, even should they immediately switch to booing the fuck out of him 12 seconds later...

...Later...

To an extent, you're right, but it's not the sole or biggest factor. Yes, there's no Rock or (Constant) Foley to draw crowd responses, but there's also a lower interest. People aren't as drawn into wrestling on any level, so with fewer people showing up and fewer people on the edge of their seats means it's harder to garner reactions.

Which is why the WWE probably don't try it. Look at the EC announcement last week.

(Paraphrased)

Vince: Who wants the Elimination Chamber?

Audience: *Three people cheer, golf claps*

Vince: Since you want it so badly...
