WWE News: Eddie Guerrero's cause of death released, linked to anabolic steroid use
By Wade Keller, Torch editor
Dec 8, 2005, 20:37

The medical examiner's report, released today, states that Eddie Guerrero "died of natural causes related to arteriosclerotic heart disease," but also noted that he had an enlarged heart and other enlarged organs, which is related to a history of anabolic steroid use. "They were contributing conditions," said Berg according to the Associated Press report. "When you have larger organs, et cetera, your body works a little bit harder to maintain your normal physiologic state."

Arteriosclerotic heart disease can lead to the narrowing of small blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. Death can result when they restrict enough to stop the flow of blood to the heart. The process occurs over the course of many years and is the most common cause of cardiovascular disability and death.

While one AP story directly mentioned officials said past steroid use may have been a contributing factor , another AP story says the coroner did not speculate as to what may have led to Guerrero's heart disease.

Minnesota TV news stations tonight have reported on the coroner's report; Guerrero died in Minneapolis.

Let me be clear, I'm not trying to piss on the mans grave, no disrespect intended, but on the same note, to disrespect people who brought up the posibility orignally and turned out to be correct is also wrong.

He was a great preformer, and to many a great person (I didn't know him personally, so I can't say).

But he had problems and he caused his own death.

If you have watched wreslting it was pretty obivous that he did steriods, and it should be no surprise that steriods were a contributing factor to his death.

I wonder how much he was juicing...Steroids have to be heavily abused to cause this sort of heart problem.

well considering this is a complete different report from whats on pwinsider somebody is lieing and it's wade keller

pwinsider posted the report that came from the coroner and it said exactly what vicki guerrero was told.the cause of death was heart failure due to his past drug abuse and the heart disease that he did'nt know he had

go to pwinsider and you'll see the real report which is alot longer than the one posted in this thread

Yeah, I'm not surprised.

Most are saying it was past use of steroids and drug abuse, a fact that no one here has ever challenged. It's well documented that Eddie had a previous history of drug abuse problems, what is in dispute is whether he had current drug abuse problems. Which is something this article does no prove.

That's the problem.

As morbid as it sounds, he was likely already a dead man walking. This is something that takes years to do to yourself.

He died in almost the exact same circumstances as Brian Pillman. Both died in their sleep in the state of Minnesota. Both had prior drug use and pain killer use that aggravated undetected medical conditions. Both had heart disease.

It's pretty much exactly alike.

Indeed.

I just got the feeling VEL was trying to claim he was currently abusing drugs, something which has not been proven.

That's what I was curious about... whether or not they actually found any traces of roids in his bloodstream or something like that that would indicate recent use.

We all know that all the crap he did to himself pushed the clock over the edge... it just took a long time to fall.

In any case, Eddie is definitely an example of why you shouldn't abuse substances. Even if you end up clean, the damage may be irreversible. And even thought it may take years, it'll catch up to you.

Honestly, it i still difficult to believe he has died. I keep turning on Smack Down expecting him to show up in his low rider, and keep thinking that this is just a sick joke.

I've read the exact same report:

BUT

it doesn't say

but also noted that he had an enlarged heart and other enlarged organs, which is related to a history of anabolic steroid use. "They were contributing conditions," said Berg according to the Associated Press report.

It said in mine:

"natural causes related to arteriosclerotic heart disease." That term is synonymous with coronary heart disease, a narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart.

The narrowing of the blood vessels is a result of drug/roid abuse over the years.

Not sure what you're talking about, I did go to PWinsider and here's what I got.

http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=14913&p=1

Which links to this AP story

http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/news/13360919.htm

which says in it

Guerrero also had an enlarged heart and other enlarged organs related to a history of anabolic steroid use, said Dr. Kathryn Berg, the assistant chief medical examiner in Hennepin County who conducted the autopsy.

Guerrero also had recently used narcotic pain medication.

"They were contributing conditions," Berg said. "When you have larger organs, et cetera, your body works a little bit harder to maintain your normal physiologic state."
