Saw it last night, I thought it was really well done. I haven't the slightest idea how well it followed the book, I hadn't read it since I was in elementary school, but overall I thought it was a pretty good movie.

I'd have to agree, it was good. But not great. Solid performances and voice-overs all around, I was very impressed. The production value was also very solid, though at times you could tell they cut the CG department short on funds. I thought they handled the transition from book to film very well, though I can see people who obsess over details to be up in arms. Over all one pos E-thumbs out of two: :y:

About the voice overs, some of them didn't seem to fit very well, like the wolf

Yeah I just got done reading the book in school, my class is going like... either this week or next week, I dunno. But it looks good.

When I first heard that there were Christian groups encouraging their congregations to go and see the movie, I was surprised. They kept calling it a Christian allegory. Of course, it's probably been 15 years since I've read the books (and was eight years old at the time), so I didn't remember anything of the sort.

But, after seeing it yesterday, I can definitely see where they're coming from. Aslan is very much a Christ/God figure (for many reasons I won't go into out of fear of spoiling this for someone).

I enjoyed it, and now I need to go back and read the books again. I remember really enjoying them as a child, but, again, that was a decade and a half ago.

Its Micheal Madsen come on! He's the man. The wolf had a gritty voice that sounded like he smoked a few too many cigarettes, and it worked. But there were times where it did seem like he was reading it off a page, maybe even a little lazy, but it was rare; nevertheless I can see where you are doming from. Though I still feel he gave a well above average performance. Maybe its just the fact that the personification of animals is a little off setting?

I'm not neccessarily saying he did it bad, it just didn't seem like the voice would be coming from the wolf.

Its definitely an allegorical piece (not that you said otherwise,) the author (whose name eludes me,) wrote many Christian pieces and was a very religious man. When he wrote The Narnia Chronicles, there was no way he could possibly leave out the greatest influence anyone can ever have. He didn't, and it shows. The good thing about allegory is even if you don't share the views of the author the story can still be enjoyed with in the context of said story. But yeah, you're right on all accounts.

Rough and gritty works well, imo. Not to sound condescending, but how would have a wolf sound?

It just didn't seem like the wolf was actually talking, with the beavers etc., it actually seemed like it might be them.

I used to watch the old PBS Choronicles of Narnia movies when I was a kid, so I'm like knee-deep in the mythology. I've always wanted to see these movies made into something bigger, with a Hollywood backing and the proper special effects.

I'm going to see it tonight. Hope it won't disappoint.

I loved the books and all when I was a kid, but god did the movie blow. It was so hyped up for nothing. I nearly fell asleep a few times.

I just hope Kong doesn't let me down this much.

Was a quite good movie. Though I think the wolf could've used a different voice actor, the guy who did the wolf pulled it off rather well I thought.

And I'm a man who loves him some good voice acting.

It was the best book-to-movie movie that I've seen, albeit I heard that the book Babe does the movie more justice than The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Too much of a kids movie. Too much cheese.

Other than that, I lked the fantasy aspect.

That's sort of to be expected from an adaptation of a kids' book, though, right? I mean, it would have been weird for it to wind up with an "R" rating and a scene of implied bestiality between Aslan and the White Witch.

Saw it last night, I really liked it. It's been years and years since I read the book and I'd forgotten a lot of it, but it seemed to be a really good adaptation. I thought the violence was done really well, the lack of blood keeps it down to a PG rating so that the target audience (children, not Ninti) can still watch it.

When you watch a cartoon do you complain that its animated as well?

Never read the books and in fact never even heard of such books, but was asked to go. I did, and actually liked it. I'd even probably go again if someone who had not seen it yet wanted to and asked me to tag along.

Well, I never even heard of Narnia before the movie ever came out so I didnt know what to expect.

That movie should've been a DVD port. Not worth the theatre space.

It works as a comedy and an actual film, because the characters are likeable and so on and so forth.

Anyways, way to completely get off topic.

I really liked it. I thought the voice-overs were fine except for Liam Neeson. I love the guy, but his voice was just too soft for the role, IMO. They should have got James Earl Jones, since he has experience playing a Lion anyways.

Anybody see the SNL rap about this? The first SNL skit I've seriously laughed at loud at in years. It was on a couple of weeks ago, but apparently you can find it all over the 'Net.

I really enjoyed it. Funnily enough, I was made aware of the religious connotations back in like grade 4, since I attended a religious school. I am very surprised to hear there are people here who hadn't even heard of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe prior to this movie. That is pretty shocking (not shocking as in "bad", just shocking as in "surprising"). It was recently voted one of like the top 5 books all children should read by a big group of librarians. :$

Anyway, I thought overall the movie was pulled off very well. The kid who played Edmund did really well, since he was easily very unlikeable, as is the goal initially. The soundtrack was very good as well, very different to most other fantasy movies. It had an "Enya-esque" undertone throughout, with the sorta haunting female vocals and such. I agree with 'Nunder, the lack of blood was a nice touch to keep the movie accessible for all ages.

Just came back from watching it, it was ok. I really hate posh kids, so I had to push that hatred to the back of my mind throughout the whole thing. It was acted pretty good considering how young the actors are. Had some really cheesey moments though. But overall it was entertaining enough.

Too many fucking kids in the audience for my liking, gotta expect it though for a film like this.

Ah well, each his own and all that.

King Kong is a big dumb stupid story, it's a monster movie poorly disguised as a beauty and the beast love story. I didn't think I was going to like this new one before I saw it because I didn't like the original. I was right, it was the same dumb story with better special effects.

The Narnia series on the other hand is a great series of childrens books that I loved as a kid and as I said before translated really well on the big screen (or the small screen if you have it on DVD :shifty: ) Strip away the CGI and you still have a great story.

Yes to each his own etc, but know this - by agreeing with Ninti you are agreeing with a man who actually liked Doom...

lol wtf

Why am I being mentioned so much?

Anyway, I liked Doom because I had little expectations out of it. It turned out much better than I expected.

I had high expectations for Narnia. It was grade A B-movie material.

I also saw King Kong and I only liked the jungle scenes. Very well done fight scenes. After that, I wanted the movie to end. Too long for something that I know how its going to end.
