Really though. Im a gamer for sure, have been since i was a wee pup, but the thing that gets me is...why do movie producers, etc. feel that they need to stray away from the game. They always have the same title of the game, they always pick the most popular games that ANYONE would recognize, yet they completly change the story or alter it to 'hollywood' the storyline. The thing that really comes into mind is Resident Evil. I think the story from the game(s) is a pretty solid one, and would make a damn creepy movie (especially the 1st one, being in a big ass mansion in the middle of nowhere!). Doom stayed pretty good with the story, it wasnt connected to the games, but i feel they kept enough elements there to keep it close. Dont get me started on Alone in the Dark though, i wont be watching that OR BloodRayne cuz they put the same dipshit in the helm of both of them. Hopefully Silent Hill doesnt disappoint. Wow, i just ranted.

Because in a video game, you basically control the story. Not so in a movie.

Street Fighter.
"My father saved his village at the cost of his own life. You had him shot as you ran away. A hero at a thousand paces"
"I'm sorry... I don't remember any of it."
"You don't remember?"
"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday."
I honestly don't know why people basardize so many game storylines. To be honest, I know game storylines aren't always the strong point particularly in the franchises they pick but in cases like Doom or Resident Evil, the storyline in the game is leagues better than the one in the movie adaption.
I refuse to accept that every single movie based on a game that has or will ever be made is shit for the simple fact that I honestly believe that when the game is given the right treatment and has the right cast and crew behind it, it will be good.
Until then, we have Paul WS Anderson and Uwe Boll. Er, hooray.

I'm quite curious to see what Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro will do with Halo.

On the flipside, what would be the point of making a movie that's the exact storyline of the game? The whole point of watching any movie is to see the story unfold... if you already know exactly what's gonna happen it's gonna be a boring movie

There's also the fact that games like Resident Evil were based heavily on movies in the first place. Not that Hollywood is original much anyway.

Yeah, but most of the time they have nothing to do with the game, even in feel. Or they use the character names.
The aforementioned Street Fighter movie was a good example...

Yeah I guess. Don't get me wrong I think almost every game->movie has been terrible just trying to defend the guys who bastardize the classics :'(

True, but pointless.
Also, why is it that almost every chick in a video game or comic book adaptation is incapable of the acting skills put on by even a porn star or female wrestler?

They're just going for the eye candy and have hot chicks who can't act play the roles because that's what they believe the gereral male audience that watches these movies wants.

im still trying to decide which is worse...
the mario bros movie or street fighter
i hear they are doing a castlevania movie...i have high hopes but it probably wont be any good :(
I think a problem too is that the people who make the movies arent really a fan of the game, etc...and they just make it their own movie

What was wrong with Mario Bros?
first of all...I know Luigi and John Leguizamo is no Luigi.
I think the movie is just poorly done...Koopa and everything were just lizards disguised as humans, etc. etc. I cant stand that movie.
Street Figher I guess has some reedeeming qualities...except for the fact Jean Claude Van Damme is playing Guile...and Raul Julia as Bison...i thought they were terribly miscast..

So far games have had a bad reputation as movies. Theres quiet a few games supposedly in the making for a movie. The ones I know of are:
Hitman
Max Payne
Dead or Alive
Destroy All Humans
Halo
and I heard about a PacMan movie being made but that was years ago and doubt that will ever happen. I know theres a lot more of them with plans for a movie.
They already butchered Hitman by signing Vin Diseal. The guy is nothing like 47 other than hes a bald white man. Ontop of that I have a feeling it'll be more explosions and bikini clad woman than a suspence thriller with a dash of action.
Basically they all have very solid storys that could be made into good movies.DOAs story is debatable though.

Well all movies unfold the same way. We meet hero, hero has love intrest, villan takes love intrest, hero overcomes unbeatable obstacle to save love intrest. Smile, the end.
As long as the characters resemble there game counterparts and the back story is the same then they can do a new story. Although if its something like "Resident Evil: Nemisis" then I'll expect to see the movie follow the games events more or less.

its not a movie but there was a group of guys that would play a live action pacman. They ran around a city with one guy dressed as pacman and the others where the ghosts. It looked cool, I saw it on a show here called "Gamer.Tv". I think it was called pacmanhatten. Btw the pic I posted isnt pacmanhatten.
the pic stretched the page so I made it a link instead :y:
while looking for pacmanhatten I found this:

Max Payne would achieve a lot if released at the right time, and done well. Sin City has brought film noir back to the mainstream. I also believe there's a Driver film in production.
Crazy Taxi too, directed by some woman who was Dancer #3 in Dude, Where's My Car? Worst idea ever :o

I read of a Crazy Taxi movie about the time I read about a Pacman movie. I always thought Lita looked alot like the female driver.I also assumed the Crazy Taxi and pacman rumours where jokes.
Speaking off Max Payne...http://www.maxpaynehero.com/download.html fan made music vid. Its done well for a fan thing since the guy is studying movie making.
