Anyway, I love both shows. Futurama was amazing, and could really tug at your heart strings when necessary, but so could the Simpsons early on.
The Simpsons suffered a long plateau of near-greatness from about season 9-11, then during what I gingerly call "the Scully years", during which Mike Scully was executive producer, the show was still better than 99% of the other crap on TV, but was a shadow of it's former self. However, with the departure of Mike Scully, season 14 onwards has again sorta got up to that season 9 near-greatness level, where most of the shows are good, and they hit a home run every 4 or 5 episodes.
So for longevity's sake, The Simpsons wins this bout.
But I love them both. So much. :'(

That is true, you did pick, like the worst Futurama episode Extreme Angle.
But anyway,
Futurama by far.
The New episodes of the Simpsons upset me, they used to be so good, and now they're so crap, Homer's gone from a dim father, to a psychopsthic lunatic that should be in a mental institution.
Futurama ended when it was still great, The Simpsons went on Waay too long.

Simpsons by a wiiiiiiiiiiide margin. Yeah, there have been some crap Simpsons episodes over the last few years, but you can't honestly tell me that there was any show funnier than The Simpsons at its best. The good far outweighs the bad, in my opinion.

Are you insane? Seasons 1-3 were the warm up. The golden years of OFF were seasons 4-8, unquestionably.

At this point in time Futurama, because I have seen most every Simpsons episode and have only seen a few episodes of Futurama, so it's still relatively new.

Simpsons is terrible. Has been for ages.
As a matter of fact, I'd put anything they air on Adult Swim (besides Tom Goes to the Mayor and 12 Oz. Mouse. Both are fucking TERRIBLE) over the Simpsons.
So Futurama wins this, easily.

71.43% of the TV watchers here have terrible taste in cartoons.
You're honestly telling me that you'd rather watch any episode of Futurama over "Cape Feare," "22 Short Films About Springfield," "You Only Move Twice," et al?
Yeah, maybe average quality of Futurama episodes was better (simply because it was canceled before the quality could drop), but the best of Simpsons makes the best of Futurama look like a pile of puke.

Same here.
To me, the Simpsons isn't as funny as it use to be. The old episodes between 1991 and 1998 were probably the best. Nearly every line made me laugh.
But now, I don't laugh as much. The new episodes of the Simpsons are about real life situations. Example: Springfeild legalises Gay Marriages, Bart gets sent to prison, Bart has a heart attack because of child obesity and so on. But the older episodes were just nuts. Example: They made fun of Mary Poppins but called her Sherry Bobbins. (The episode was called Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala-D'oh-cious) and Homer Vs. The Eighteenth Amendment where he goes against Rex Banner.

I've never had a show in the genre of comedy prime-time animation tug on the heart strings like Futurama (the "Jurassic Bark" episode) or tickle the funny bone (Bender's character as a whole) like Futurama.

Spot on. Simpsons have simply exhausted their ideas. There's nothing else left for them to do, even the writers seem to see the funny side of the ongoing and overused Sideshow Bob/Krusty angle. One of the recent episodes where Lisa entered into American Idol didn't make me laugh at all... not once. When the show ended I would have been disappointed if I wasn't so confused as to what the hell that was all about.
...and Homer Vs. The Eighteenth Amendment where he goes against Rex Banner.
although that is a fooking good episode though. One of my favourites. I even quoted a line from the episode in one of my University essays about the alcholism and psychological interventions.

Also, why is everyone still hating on the most recent seasons of the Simpsons? Compared to the Maxtone-Graham/Scully years, late season 14 onwards is the goods. Still better than seasons 1-3, though never as great as seasons 4-8. :(

I chose Futurama, but some of the Simpsons stuff was very funny. Less so these days, but it's not super bad or anything. Futurama I haven't seen repeated so many times that that's most likely one of the reasons I have chosen it.
As for Family Guy, that shows good too, but below these other two, IMO.

I have to admit, as a Simpsons die-hard (like, to the point of it being sad, almost), that seasons 11-13 were nearly enough to make me stop watching. In the wake of the arrival of Family Guy, the writers and executive producer did too much to try and mimic that sort of humour and in the process, undermined the very thing that the previous writers had spent 10 years building up, and what was the very essence of what made the Simpsons so lovable: the characters. Homer has always been stupid, but deep down, he unquestionably loves his family. In the first 10 seasons, you can see he would do anything for them and there are a number of beautiful scenes where you can see that. Be it a gesture as simple as going for a bike ride with Marge in "Duffless", giving up his ticket on the Duff Blimp to enter Lisa into the Little Miss Springfield concert, or breaking into the Springfield museum so he and Lisa could see the Egyptian exhibit, there was never a doubt that for all his flaws Homer was a sweet, gentle man, and that's what made him lovable.
In the space of two seasons, Mike Scully managed to spit on that, and made Homer stupider and unlikeable. He suddenly had no regard for his family at all. He was like a watered down Peter Griffin, and it was hard to swallow because for 10 years he had been a really lovable character.
Thankfully, Al Jean and the return of many earlier writers has seen them undoing the Scully era's damage, and thus my faith is restored.

Billy West (the voice of Fry) said in an interview (http://www.harrisonline.com/audio/billywest1.mp3) that when it was on TV it had the higher ratings that Conan O'Brian and Jay Leno etc. But Fox kept switching the times so no one knew when it would be on and so they couldn't watch it. So Fox used that as an excuse to cancel it.
if anyone cares heres another interview (http://www.harrisonline.com/audio/billywest.mp3)
