but damn, the shining sucked hardcore. so much changed and so many cool parts were left out.

It sucked, Jack was like an asshole from the very beginning, and the wife and kid were annoying as hell.

I mean, I know you have leave some parts out cause books are like 17 times longer and more elaborate, but damn. There were so many little parts that were pretty much pointless that went on longer than they should, where more plot developing type crap could've gone in...

and the score... it just sounded like someone was going to die from the beginning.

I really thought they could've done the whole deterioration thing better.

ANYWAY. you can all flame me now.

I agree with you. The guy's wife was supposed to be hot too, and the black guy wasn't supposed to die.

I think it's awesome, although I never read the book. I do agree that Jack was ****ed up from the beginning.

I never read the book, on account of I do not like to read, so I liked it.

I agree though, that some things could have done better, but who am I to argue with the greatest director of all time?

You should try to find the one that was made in 97. It was a made for TV movie type thing, but it followed the book EXACTLY! Not half bad.

I've seen it at video stores and if u b a pirate then I've seen it on some file sharing proggies too.

For movies adapted from books, I usually find it's a bad idea to both read the book and see the film, since out of the all the various films I've seen that were originally books, only one of them stuck precisely to the book. And loads of them had fairly big changes...

I was going to ask which version you watched, but it's obvious. The first movie with Jack Nicholson is classic. I suggest you rent that version. I was not impressed at all with the latest rendition.

99% of the movies based on books stink because they change too much to 'keep it interesting', or the book itself (good or bad, your opinion) is so long they cut out key parts. Shame really for some movies.

Not sure if you were talking to me or the original poster here. I've seen both versions and liked them both. I was just suggesting the newer one because he it follows the book more, it sounds like that's what he was looking for.

To The Mask. I find very few remakes as well done as the original movie, whether it completely followed the book or not. Granted, now days there's better graphics and stunts and what all, but remakes just seem to loose alot. My opinion of course.

Same goes for Dune. The original movie is fantastic, the remake...meh. It's OK...

Yea, most remakes suck!

The one in '97 starred the guy from "Wings", Steven Weber (now THAT kid in this version was annoying).

I agree that the Jack Nicholson version did not follow the book (great book), but he was awesome in the role........ "I don't want to hurt you, Wendy, I just want to bash your f***ing head in!" GREAT
