Release Date: TBA 2007 (wide)

MPAA Rating Notes: (12/5/05) Nothing's official until the MPAA sees the final cut, but there's a very good chance that this movie will be aiming for an R rating, as most of director Paul W.S. Anderson's previous videogame-inspired movies (all but Mortal Kombat) have been.

Distributor: Dimension Films

Production Company: Crystal Sky Pictures (Ghost Rider; also has an animated 'Pac-Man' movie in development), Impact Pictures (Anderson's company)

Cast: None announced yet.

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson (Alien vs Predator, Resident Evil: Apocalypse; also has a remake of Death Race 2000 in development)

Screenwriter: Paul W.S. Anderson

Based Upon: This movie is inspired by the long-running series of videogames published by Konami, about the adventures of various members of the Belmont family, and their efforts to destroy Dracula, and other vampires, mostly set in 19th century Europe. 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of the series. The game series was, of course, also itself "inspired" by the character of Dracula as created by Bram Stoker.

Premise: As a powerful vampire named Dracula comes to power, a family of vampire hunters called the Belmont Clan emerges to defeat him and his evil hordes, led by silver-haired, whip-wielding Simon Belmont.

Setting Notes: (12/5/05) It should be interesting to see if writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson chooses to keep the movie's setting in 19th century Europe as (most, but not all, admittedly) of the video games have been set, or if he will adapt to the modern 21st century.

Filming: (12/5/05) Production is scheduled to start on this project in mid-2006.

Genre: Action, Horror, Supernatural, Videogame

I bet they set it in present day New York and replace Simon Belmont with Simone Belmont, who will be played by Mary-Kate in tight revealing leather and just be her doing cartwheels for an hour and a half .Unless its already been filmed and its a guy playing Simon, in which case ignore what I just said.BTW I told you all about the Pac-man movie.

I warned ya! Didn't I warn ya!? [/Willie]

But it's about a videogame.

It's the chicken or the egg. :shifty:

Even though it was a bad movie, it looked like Van Helsing was Castlevania.

Yeah thats what I was telling everyone when the ads for Van Helsing "Looks like a sort of Castlevania clone" I never saw the movie but thats the impression the ads gave me.

Yeah never thought about that. Hopefully Anderson won't fuck it up but seeing both Resident Evil movies I seriously doubt it. :(

Hey, I thought the RE movies were great. I'm a minority, I'm sure, but I didn't find them to be that bad at all, especially Apocalypse. Only thing that really got me about Apocalypse was *SPOILERS - HIGHLIGHT* Nemesis having feelings at the end. :wtf:. Other than that, I thought they were really solid, considering that it wasn't an -exact- copy of the game, but honestly...who would want that?

LOL The first one just dissapointed the hell out of me. The 2nd one was better, but I still couldn't get the taste of the first one out of my mouth.

I could leave an empty post and still speak volumes about how lame the eventual bastardization of this series will be.

What more do you really want me to tell you? That fact is: THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK period. It will suck so hard that the reel of film containing it will literally create a black hole powerful enough to destroy the galaxy.

LOL I hope you're wrong, but knowing how dissapointing most of the Video Game movies have been so far, you probably hit the nail on the head.

The Castlevania series is one of the greats, I just hope it's name is not tarnished in this upcoming movie. :-\

Worse yet, the game-based-on-the-movie-based-on-the-game that will surely follow (Remember the Street Fighter movie game?).

Well from now on Agent 47 will resemble and sound like Vin Diesal because he will be playing him in the movie so its likely they will do the same with castlevania.

I liked the Street Fighter Movie only because of Kylie Minogue. It sucks she never completely dressed like in the game. During the entire movie I was wondering when she'd take off her pants.

You are lucky. Gomez Adams (Raul Julia) in red leather shoots lightning at you. I am not making this shit up.

Think about this though, the movie could be worse, Uwe Boll could direct it

November 2, 2006 - Rogue Pictures has hooked up with genre filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson and Crystal Sky Entertainment to help bring the classic videogame Castlevania to the big screen. Rogue, according to today's Variety will distribute the $50 million film in North America. Dimension Films, who had been previously linked with the project, dropped the movie after they failed to warm up to Anderson's script.

A number of new details have emerged about the Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat filmmaker's approach to the project. Anderson's script reportedly spans many time periods but mostly takes place in 15th century Transylvania. The movie is described as a fresh take on the Dracula legend, taking it back to the beginning with the story of Romanian prince Vlad the Impaler.

"You could almost call this movie Dracula Begins, Anderson told Variety.

Rogue co-president Andrew Rona says the movie is an "action/horror project in the vein of Underworld and Blade." He adds that the studio is hoping to turn Castlevania into a franchise.

Benedict Carver, president of co-backer Crystal Sky, says, "This is not what you'd call a typical videogame movie, it's a legend with a strong romantic element."

As in the game, much of the movie's drama is expected to be played out within Dracula's castle, a story element that appeals to Anderson. "Ever since I made Event Horizon, I've been obsessed with the idea of a location that's a character in the story, of being trapped in an environment that's out to get you," Anderson told the trade.

Anderson also says that the game's gothic visuals and eerie music will serve as his inspiration for the look and sound of the film.

Locations are reportedly being scouted in Hungary and Romania for a possible shoot starting in the spring. The castle set will be built in Budapest.
