Official New Years Revolution Thread-01/08/06--Elimination Chamber

In his last act as RAW General Manager, Eric Bischoff decided that the WWE Championship would be up for grabs inside the Elimination Chamber. And on the Dec. 12 edition of RAW, interim GM Mr. McMahon announced five qualifying matches to see who would join John Cena inside the Chamber on Jan. 8 (WATCH a look at the qualifying matches).

In the first qualifying match, Kurt Angle earned himself another shot at the gold by defeating Ric Flair. Carlito then defeated Shelton Benjamin and Chris Masters defeated Viscera to earn the third and fourth slots.

In the next qualifying match, Triple H cost Big Show a spot in the Chamber. As Show had Shawn Michaels beaten, Triple H intervened, nailing HBK with a chair to get Show disqualified. However, Big Show would get his revenge, helping tag team partner Kane deliver a double chokeslam to defeat Triple H and earn the final slot.

On the Dec. 26, edition of RAW, all the Elimination Chamber participants took part in "Beat the Clock" Matches for the right to enter the Elimination Chamber last.

By the end of the night, Kane had established the best time -- an impressive 28-second victory over both members of The Heart Throbs. With the win, Kane will have the important advantage of entering the Chamber last — thereby being the freshest and healthiest Superstar in the battle for the WWE Championship. John Cena has overcome difficult odds time and again during his eight-month reign. Will he step up again, or will these odds prove insurmountable inside the demonic structure known to tear up the bodies of its participants?

One week ater beating the clock (WATCH Beat the Clock video), Mr. McMahon put Kane in a match with Shawn Michaels. But after a confrontation with HBK the week before, Mr. McMahon banned Sweet Chin Music in the match. The Chairman stayed at ringside during the match and distracted HBK, allowing Kane to pick up another win (WATCH a look at the match). Following the loss, Mr. McMahon decided that Michaels will enter the Elimination Chamber first (WATCH HBK hear the bad news).

Later in the evening John Cena faced Kurt Angle in a First Blood Match (WATCH a look at the match). Thanks to some interference from Daivari, Angel was able to bust Cena open thanks to a steel chair. But Cena was able to shake off the blood and lock Angle in the STFU. Chris Masters and Carlito then ran to the ring and attacked Cena. Angle recovered, but Masters then hooked him in the Master Lock. It wasn't long before HBK and Kane came down as well to join the fray. HBK was the last man standing until Cena miraculously came back and hit an FU, leaving all six Elimination Chamber competitors laying in the ring. Will this be the kind of carnage that will be seen at New Year's Revolution?

Only Kane and Michaels have competed inside the Elimination Chamber before. Will that prior experience propel them to victory, or will Carlito or Masters climb the ladder and win their first WWE Championship? Will Angle finally get his hands on the gold again, or will The Champ overcome all the odds once again to walk out of New Year’s Revolution with his gold?

I am in utter shock. I really feel for Cena for the way this turned out. The title needed to come off of him, but after having a brutal match, then geting speared twice and pinned is a bad way for him to end his 9 month title run. With the crowd reactions he has been getting lately, it pretty much had to happen. I'm just pissed that it didn't go to Angle, and that he was the first eliminated in the chamber. I even thought Kane had a shot, but he didn't last that long either.

Wow. That's certainly unexpected. Can't say I'm happy about them taking the belt off of Cena this way. I wanted the belt off him bad, too, but I don't think like this. I'd have rather Edge used it in a one-on-one situation. Not that I want Edge to be champion, either. Damn it, I'm so conflicted now.

But how long is this change? Is this a permanent, for-sure WWE Championship reign for Edge, or is he getting the, as someone else said, Kane treatment? Tomorrow on Raw, have Cena win the belt back, then turn Cena heel someway through him winning the title back. Hell, he's already half-heel anyway. So, Edge won the WWE Championship tonight.

I know I should care, but I really, really don't. I didn't care about Cena as champion, and after a piss-poor title change like tonight's, I care about that fucking spinner belt even less.

I always imagined a Bret Hart or Chris Benoit-type title victory for Edge - at a Summerslam or a WrestleMania or even a heavily hyped edition of RAW. But not like this; not cheaply, with that cheap whore standing next to him, beating a champion who just survived the Elimination Chamber and could barely stand.

Edge deserves better, and WE deserve better.

Kurt Angle saying France was the greatest country in the world, he "isn't a fan of the black people" and that if he could go back in time and make anyone tap out...it'd be Jesus.

Then there was Edge winning the WWE Championship. Fucking incredible moment. Edge was on the announce table and the fans were going rabid. I really think Edge could turn face after this. I'd rather he stayed more of a tweener character, though. Have Cena rip into him on RAW tomorrow night, and have Edge come out and let them start up something heading into the Royal Rumble. I think we'll see Flair challenge for the WWE Championship tonight (since he did beat Edge earlier in the night).

Actually, I can kinda see this being a masterplan for Edge, by having him lose to Flair on purpose, so when he beat Cena, he could get a rematch with Flair signed for the Rumble. Cena then enters the Rumble match, wins, Flair beats Edge at RR shocking everybody, winning his seventeenth World Championship. Triple H beats Flair some time between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, we get Triple H vs. John Cena in Chicago, still. I hope they scrap that match, though.

Whoever booked the Elimination Chamber, needs to book the entire WWE from now on. Seriously, that was good stuff.

Cena needed to make it to the end, so they purposely had him stuck with Masters & Carlito (who looked great tonight). One funny line of the night which went undetected was this:

*Carlito walks into Chris Masters' lockerroom and sees Masters working out*

CARLITO: Wow Chris, you get bigger all the time.

Or something like that. I just took it at a shot at Masters' decreasing size and the WWE's drug policy.

Anyway, if Cena has lasted to the end with Angle, HBK or even Kane, the fans would have been all over him. This end at least tried to give us a reason to cheer Cena. If you were watching the event, I don't think it was really surprising Angle went first. He came in, did his thing, got cheered, and left. That was all he needed to do, and he did it exceptionally. Kane going next, although I would have loved to see him win, was logical. It also made Carlito & Masters look good as a team. Masters going next was smart, as it made Carlito look sneaky, and Carlito being rolled up next made the beat-down Cena has received look good.

So Cena makes history (entering the Chamber first and winning), Carlito & Masters look good while the other guys looked surprising strong for being targetted by the young guys.

The one and only faulty booking decision of the night, in my opinion, was putting Jerry Lawler over Gregory Helms. What the fuck? Helms has a future in the WWE, he put on a match with Lawler that was better than most expected, he even did his own announcing in the match, and he loses to a fist drop?

I hope they give Helms a rub from Edge tomorrow night or something. Either have Helms start a little program with Edge (maybe connecting Edge & Matt Hardy), leading to a RAW match between the two, or have Helms side with Edge in a Pick Your Poison Match against John Cena, where Helms at least has a chance to look good before being jobbed.
