View Full Version : X-Pac Heat: Does It Exist?

Lately, when reading a semi-well-known (nowadays, somewhat reluctant) wrestling columnist's blog...or rather, a wrestling forum disguised as a blog, someone brought up X-Pac Heat.

The validity of such was challenged by a guy with trolling tendencies, who kind of reminds me of what would happen if Kane Knight drank the Kool-Aid one too many times...but had an argument that I (and others) really couldn't refute: Essentially, "boo" is "boo". Technically, you can't tell whether someone is booing someone just because they think the guy behind the gimmick sucks.

But there's a part of me that makes me think that it can determined that one is booing someone because they suck, and not because they particularly buy into the gimmick that person has.

It's particularly easy to determine that this is the case when someone who is designed to garner cheers (Rocky Maivia the face, John Cena, the recent face) gets loud boos instead. But with heels, who you're supposed to boo, it's a lot more difficult. Sometimes the signs help out. Though the boos X-Pac and Muhammad Hassan used to get are techinically the same, there's just something that [i]feels different about the way people boo X-Pac.

What do you think?

Yes, X-Pac heat still exists. But you have to remeber the guy X-Pac heat is named for was the master of it, and not everyone is as bad as X-Pac. Lately no one sucks that badly to get such a "OMG, not you again, I'm going to change the channel and not come back" boo that X-Pac got, but some fringe on it. Some of the people I think that get really close, and if they don't watch their ass, will get this kind of heat are listed below (oh, and why):

Edge - While Edge's matchs are ok to good, I can't remeber a stand out match he has had without Christian or Matt Hardy. Also, I can't remeber a stand out fued Edge has had without Christian or Matt Hardy. Also being the fact that Edge v Hardy is completely burnt out for the next 5 years at least and Christian isn't part of WWE, I really don't know where Edge can go. With the botch queen on his shoulder, he is really sucking as well.

Vince McMahon - Vince is only good in very small doses, but ever since Bischoff got fired or whatever and they seemingly forgot to assign a new GM, it doesn't look like Vince is going anywhere anytime soon. And since he runs the place, it is hard for people to say, "Hey Vince, you should cut back the promo 5 minutes you are losing the crowd." Plus Vince does some really uncomfortable to watch skits and angles that really go no where. Like for example the horny old mand shit he does is aweful. So by the end of the month Vince will indeed have X-Pac heat if he keeps it up.

The only other person that I can think of that could be in danger of X-Pac heat is Shelton Benjiam, or at least his mom, and he'll be dragged down by it.

I think X-Pac Heat exists, however, I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing. Getting boos in wrestling is just fine. The WORST thing is getting no reaction at all.

Also was/is Cena getting X-pac heat? I wouldn't classify that as X-pac Heat.

Also ABT brings up a good point X-Pac heat is better then nothing at all.

X-Pac heat exists. and the difference between X-Pac heat and heel heat is that one sells tickets.

Booing doesn't equal booing if someone turns the channel when they're seen. The only time it's a positive is if people will shell out for your merch, watch your sponsor's ads, and buy your pay per views

I only change the channel during hardcore holly matches.

Neither would I. I think the fans could get back into Cena if he starts doing something new. Maybe his current schtick is receiving X-Pac heat. People just wanted something new. As a performer, I think he's completely capable of turning that around.

He had a DAMN good ladder match with Eddie once on Smackdown!

Yes. I'm ready to turn the channel when that awful Jarrett music comes on.
I liked him in WCW...but he just sucks in TNA. That's X-Pac Heat at its finest.

Cena's getting X-Pac heat. He's not getting booed for heelish behaviour, he's getting heat because people want him to get off the screen. He's a very annoying babyface.

There is a picture of Eddie Frogsplashing a pudding you will see on here a lot.

working a good match with Eddie really means nothing, because Eddie could wrestle a food group and pull off a ***** match

I give heat to Triple H, JBL, Big Vis, Cena, Shelton, and a few others.
These are guys I boo. I want to see them lose for one reason or another but I don't want to see these guys job to Nunzio on Heat.

Now let's look at this closer....
"These guys I boo. I want to see them..."
In my eyes X-Pac heat is when someone comes out and I'm thinking about recreating the civil war with bunnies with floppy ears. Guys who I don't give a fuck about. We're talking Jeff Jarrett, Monty Brown (if he used a pump handle slam maybe I'd care, but The Pounce just kills him for me), Rob Conway, Murdoch, and Edge (just to name a few).

I want to see a lot of heels get their asses kicked.
X-Pac heat, or at least what I know about it, is when you just don't care for the person.

I honestly think it's better to just ignore them, bt the WWE needs to learn the difference between heel heat and X-Pac heat, because it's really what separates their successes from their failures.

Remember that it's mostly WHEN the fans boo that makes the distinction between X-Pac Heat and Kayfabe Heat.

The fans chant "Angle Sucks", but cheer him quite a bit. That's Kayfabe Heat, but more importantly, it's "we want to cheer him so we'll say he sucks as a tribute" Heat.

The fans chanted "X-Pac Sucks" even when he was a face, and no matter what he did, all throughout his matches, they chanted it. That's X-Pac Heat.

Mostly, yes.

It's also in who gets reacted to.

X-Pac as a face would lead to a heel getting cheered. Kind of like Chris "Dead Crowd" masters getting popped for going after Angle.

I disargee. I think they are still booing the gimmick and not the person.

I don't think they do want him off their TV.

I think they want Cena on their TV so they can boo him or they can see him get his ass kicked, because his character is so incredbily gay.

I think the buyrates would be higher if they wanted to see him get his ass kicked.

Cena doesn't get X-Pac heat, he gets "Super babyface Rock" heat. People do not want him to go away, they just want him to go back to what made the crowd like him in the first place.

Edge, i think, gets X-pac heat, but before it was what i stated above. People wanted Edge to go back to the comical, yet i'll whip your ass, Edge. Not the "GRRRRRR" Edge. I also think that whenever i see a Triple H squash match, i get that "X-Pac Heat" feeling.

With Cena they stayed consistent. They did not get real low.

I wasn't talking ratings. Cena's been on top ofsome of the worstt rated shows in ages, some of the lowest buyrate PPVs in a while.
