MTV will be producing and filming a pilot for a new wrestling promotion next month. Not much is known except that the show will be taped in Los Angeles and California's Big Vision Entertainment (distributors of the Hardcore Homecoming DVD) will be involved.

Sweet......... but I have read about a handful of "new" promotions starting up that supposedly had TV and PPV deals but here it is... its 2006 and we are still stuck with just the WWE and TNA. I'll believe it when I see it.

I could be good, especially if it's just a "Best of the independant guys" thing. Gets more guys exposure, etc. MTV is a fairly good platform for a promotion to start. I'm actually excited about this.

If they get some of the better independant guys that aren't signed to TNA contracts (Colt Cabana, Bryan Danielson, Low Ki, Matt Stryker, etc.) this could be really good.

As reported yesterday, MTV and Big Vision Entertainment will be taping a wrestling pilot on 2/9 in Los Angeles. Some wrestlers that will work the show include Vampiro, Sean Waltman, P.J. Polaco (Justin Credible), New Jack, Jack Evans, and Matt Sydal.

The promotion is currently looking for an announcer that they want to be "hip" and have the "MTV style."

The product will be fused with MTV and feature music. The wrestling and angles will apparently be reality based. MTV claims the product will be completely different than WWE or TNA.

If this picks up, think you'll see a lot of TNA guys going there? I would think MTV would be better exposure/money then TNA... just a guess....

I wonder if the wrestlers will be allowed do what they want?

I wouldn't like to be there when the MTV guys tell New Jack that he can't bring sharp objects to the ring with him.

this has potential, as long as it isn't as gay as TNA

I don't know how to really think about this so far...

On a positive side, it's wrestling outside of WWE and I guess TNA. Also it's on MTV, which can really reach out to that 18-34 audience that can bring back wrestling to mainstream.

However, this is a wrestling promotion being started by a corporation, and as we've seen with WCW and Turner Entertainment, that's not always a good thing. On top of that, the biggest names connected with this event is X-Pac and New Jack...who aren't really associated with "great wrestling" and "entertaining".

I'm sure they can pay goldberg enough.

Mr. Nerfect

I hope they make Sean Waltman a joke character amongst the guys. Call him "Surreal" Sean Waltman or something.

If they get bands to perform music for the guys, and if they have good presentation, I can see this taking off. Just don't get too behind Sean Waltman & New Jack. I'd much rather see them replaced with Bryan Danielson & Colt Cabana.

Mr. Nerfect

If they can somehow get Brock Lesnar in as well, this could be really good. For some reason, if they work something out with TNA, I can see this being great for the WWE and the wrestling industry.

I would love it if Raven went there and they signed Pete Gruner, Perry Saturn, Kronus, Kanyon & Julio Dinero; effectively starting a new Flock-esque stable.

He should form a faction of 40 year old teenagers and call it 90210. I would mark out.

From the sounds of I fear that its going to be too Hollywood as they haven’t mentioned any well-known wrestling identities on the booking panel. And also the fact that there is going to be a "pilot" I just hope the wrestling does not take a back seat on their '''reality based" storylines.

But I’m excited about it. Its another wrestling company starting up that’s getting TV time

If hip enough to outcool WWE, this has potential to bring a ratings war

The Naitch

of course, WWE would probably get off their lazy asses and finally produce something worthy a la Attitude Era, take it up a notch, and kill MTV
